Adichikkavu Sree Durga Devi Kshetram, commonly referred to as the Adichikavu Devi Temple, is recognized as one of the oldest temples located in Pandanad village, Alappuzha.
The temple is positioned in Pandanad, within the Chengannur taluk of the Alappuzha district in the southern Indian state of Kerala. It lies approximately 6 kilometers to the west of Chengannur and 4 kilometers to the east of Mannar. Adichikkavu Sree Durga Devi Kshetram is a Hindu temple dedicated to the goddess Sree Vana Durga. A prominent feature of the temple is its open-topped Sreekovil, specifically designed for Vana Durga. Additionally, the temple complex houses the Anakottil and the Sapthaha Mandapam, which are situated on the northwest side of the temple.
Pathamudayam is the principal festival celebrated at the temple during the month of Medam (April), commencing on Vishu and culminating in a night of festivities on April 23, spanning ten days. The Sapthaha Yajnam occurs annually, lasting for seven days, during which devotees engage in worship and partake in communal meals. Pongala is a significant event where women gather to prepare Pongala, a dish made of rice, jaggery, ghee, and coconut, in small pots as an offering to Goddess Durga. Additionally, the Parayeduppu takes place during the festival season prior to Pathamudayam, involving the Devi's visit to the homes of residents in the Pandanad area. Furthermore, the Navaha Yajnam is celebrated each year for nine days, featuring worship and food for the devotees. Similar to other Hindu temples, this temple features shrines dedicated to various deities. Among these deities are the shrines of Yakshiamma, Nagarajav, Nagayakshi, and Brahmarakshas.
അടിച്ചിക്കാവ് ശ്രീ ദുർഗാദേവി ക്ഷേത്രം
ആലപ്പുഴയിലെ പാണ്ടനാട്ടിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന അടിച്ചിക്കാവ് ശ്രീ ദുർഗാദേവി ക്ഷേത്രം, പ്രാചീനതയിലും പ്രശസ്തിയിലും സമ്പന്നമായ ഒരു ക്ഷേത്രമാണ്. ഇത് 'അടിച്ചി കാവ് ദേവീക്ഷേത്രം' എന്ന പേരിലും അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. ചെങ്ങന്നൂരിൽ നിന്ന് 6 കിലോമീറ്റർ പടിഞ്ഞാറും, മാന്നാറിൽ നിന്ന് 4 കിലോമീറ്റർ കിഴക്കുമാണ് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ സ്ഥാനം. ശ്രീ വന ദുർഗ്ഗാ ദേവിക്ക് സമർപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ പ്രധാന ആകർഷണം മേൽക്കൂരയില്ലാത്ത ശ്രീകോവിലാണ്, ഇത് പ്രത്യേകമായി വനദുർഗ്ഗയ്ക്കായി നിർമ്മിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. ഉപദേവതകളായ യക്ഷി അമ്മ, നാഗരാജാവ്, നാഗയക്ഷി, ബ്രഹ്മരക്ഷസ് എന്നിവരും ഇവിടെ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ വടക്ക്-പടിഞ്ഞാറ് ഭാഗത്ത് ആനക്കോട്ടും, സപ്താഹ മണ്ഡപവും ഉൾപ്പെടുന്നു.
ആദികാലത്ത് വനവാസികളായ ദ്രാവിഡരുടെയും പിന്നീട് ശാക്തേയരുടെയും ഒടുവിൽ ഹൈന്ദവരുടെയും ആരാധനാ മൂർത്തിയായ ഭഗവതിയാണ് വനദുർഗ്ഗ. ഇത് ആദിപരാശക്തിയുടെ രൂപമായ വനശൈലാദ്രിവാസിയായ ഭഗവതിയെ സൂചിപ്പിക്കുന്നു. വിധിയുടെ അനുസരണം ഭഗവതിയെ ഭജിച്ചാൽ ദുഃഖങ്ങൾ അകന്നുപോകുകയും നന്മകൾ വരുകയും ചെയ്യുമെന്ന് വിശ്വസിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. ശ്രീ പാർവ്വതിയുടെ ഒരു രൂപമാണ് വനദുർഗ്ഗ. പരമശിവനെ ഭർത്താവായി നേടാൻ പാർവതീദേവി വെയിലും മഴയും മഞ്ഞും ഏറ്റുവാങ്ങി വനത്തിൽ തപസ്സു നടത്തി, പഞ്ചഭൂതങ്ങളെ (ആകാശം, വായു, അഗ്നി, ജലം, പൃഥ്വി) തന്റെ ആഹ്വാനത്തിലൂടെ ആകർഷിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. അതിനാൽ, പരാശക്തിയെ വനദുർഗ്ഗ രൂപത്തിൽ ആരാധിക്കുന്നു. പല വനദുർഗ ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിലും ഭഗവതിയുടെ ശ്രീകോവിലിന് മേൽക്കൂര ഉണ്ടാകാറില്ല. പ്രകൃതിയുടെ പ്രതിഭാസങ്ങൾ നേരിട്ട് പ്രതിഷ്ഠയിലേക്ക് എത്താൻ വേണ്ടി ആണിതെന്ന് വിശ്വസിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. ചില കാവുകളിലും ഇത്തരത്തിലുള്ള പ്രതിഷ്ഠകൾ കാണപ്പെടുന്നു.
പ്രാചീന കാലത്ത് ഊർവ്വരതാപൂജയുടെ ഭാഗമായും വനദുർഗിനെ ആരാധിച്ചിരുന്നു. പ്രകൃതീമാതാവായി വനദുർഗയെ കണക്കാക്കിയിരുന്നു. അടിച്ചിക്കാവ് ശ്രീ ദുർഗ്ഗാദേവി ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന ഉത്സവമായ പത്താമുദയം ഏപ്രിൽ (മേടം) മാസത്തിൽ ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നു. ഈ ഉത്സവത്തിനോടനുബന്ധിച്ച്, എല്ലാ വർഷവും ഏഴുദിവസം നീണ്ട സപ്താഹ യജ്ഞം നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു. ദുർഗ്ഗാദേവിയെ പ്രീതിപ്പെടുത്താൻ, ദേശത്തെ സ്ത്രീഭക്തകൾ ചെറിയ മൺകലങ്ങളിൽ പൊങ്കാല സമർപ്പിക്കാൻ ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ ഒത്തുകൂടുന്നു. പത്താമുദയത്തിന് മുമ്പായി, പാണ്ടനാട് പ്രദേശത്തെ ഭക്തരുടെ വീടുകളിൽ ദേവി ദർശനം നടത്തുന്നത് പറയെടുപ്പ് മഹോത്സവമായി അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. എല്ലാ വർഷവും ഒമ്പത് ദിവസം വിപുലമായ നവാഹയജ്ഞം ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നു.
