Aravukad Sreedevi Temple, a highly esteemed place of worship, is located in the village of Punnapra within the Alappuzha district. It can be found approximately 8 kilometers to the south of Alappuzha town.
The deity of Bhadrakali is revered in the form of an emperor. The sacred pool, which is believed to have been utilized by the goddess for cleansing the palliwal after vanquishing the demon, remains a holy site within the temple to this day. The principal festival celebrated here is Pooramahotsavam, which commences on Bharani day in the month of Meenam and concludes with Aarattu on Pooram day.
Aravukad Pooram stands as the most significant festival for the village of Punnapra. The Thiripitutham offering on Pooram day is particularly renowned, attracting individuals from surrounding villages to the Aravukad temple to ignite the ceremonial fire. Additionally, the festivals of Pongala, Navratri, and Mandalamahotsavam in the month of Makara are celebrated with great enthusiasm. Hundreds of children initiate their vidyarambham at this temple, which is especially dedicated to Goddess Saraswati. Arikooth is a ritual performed at the Punnapra Aravukad temple aimed at preventing childhood illnesses. The belief is that during festivals, all children are regarded as the offspring of Aravukattamma. The offerings of Guruti, which take place every Tuesday and Friday, along with Thiripitutham and Arikkootth, are particularly renowned within the temple.
അറവുകാട് ശ്രീദേവി ക്ഷേത്രം, പുന്നപ്ര
ആലപ്പുഴ ജില്ലയിലെ പുന്നപ്ര ഗ്രാമത്തിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന പ്രശസ്ത ദേവി ക്ഷേത്രമാണ് അറവുകാട് ശ്രീദേവി ക്ഷേത്രം. ആലപ്പുഴ പട്ടണത്തിൽ നിന്നും 8 കിലോമീറ്റർ തെക്കായി പുന്നപ്രക്കാരുടെ ദേശ ദേവതയായ അറവുകാടമ്മയുടെ ക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു. ചക്രവർത്തിനി ഭാവത്തിലുള്ള ഭദ്രകാളിയുടെ പ്രതിഷ്ഠയാണ് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ. സാധുജനങ്ങൾക്ക് ഉപദ്രവം ചെയ്തിരുന്ന അസുരനെ നശിപ്പിച്ച്, സാധുജനങ്ങളുടെ രക്ഷകനായി പുന്നപ്ര ഗ്രാമത്തിൽ അറവുകാടമ്മ വസിക്കുന്നുവെന്ന് വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നു.
ദേവി അസുരനെ കൊന്ന ശേഷം പള്ളിവാൾ കഴുകിയ കുളം ഇന്നും ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ പവിത്രമായി സൂക്ഷിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു മീനമാസത്തിലെ ഭരണി നാളിൽ കൊടിയേറി പൂരം നാളിൽ ആറാട്ടോടുകൂടി സമാപിക്കുന്ന പൂരമഹോത്സവം ഈ പ്രദേശത്തിന്റെ പ്രധാന ഉത്സവമാണ്. പുന്നപ്ര ഗ്രാമത്തിലെ ജനങ്ങളുടെ പ്രധാന ആഘോഷമായ അറവുകാട് പൂരം, പൂരം നാളിലെ തിരിപിടുത്തം കൊണ്ടു പ്രശസ്തമാണ്. അന്യ ദേശങ്ങളിൽ നിന്നുള്ള ആളുകൾ പോലും തിരിപിടിക്കാൻ അറവുകാട് ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ എത്തുന്നു. കൂടാതെ, മകര മാസത്തിലെ പൊങ്കാല, നവരാത്രി, മണ്ഡലമഹോത്സവം എന്നിവയും ആസ്വദിക്കുന്നതിൽ വലിയ ഉത്സാഹം കാണിക്കുന്നു.
സരസ്വതി ദേവിക്ക് പ്രത്യേക പ്രതിഷ്ഠയുള്ള ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ വിദ്യാരംഭം നടത്താൻ നൂറുകണക്കിന് കുട്ടികൾ എത്തുന്നു. അറവുകാട് ക്ഷേത്രയോഗത്തിന്റെയും ഇൻഡസ്ട്രിയൽ ട്രെയിനിംഗ് ഇൻസ്റ്റിറ്റ്യൂട്ടും, ഹയർ സെക്കണ്ടറി സ്കൂളും ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന് സമീപം സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു. പുന്നപ്ര അറവുകാട് ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ കുട്ടികളുടെ ബാലാരിഷ്ടം മാറ്റുന്നതിനായി നടത്തുന്ന വഴിപാടാണ് അരിക്കൂത്ത്. ഉത്സവദിനങ്ങളിൽ കുട്ടികൾ അറവുകാട്ട് അമ്മയുടെ മക്കളായി മാറുന്നുവെന്നതാണ് ആശയം. എല്ലാ ചൊവ്വാഴ്ചകളും വെള്ളിയാഴ്ചകളും നടത്തുന്ന ഗുരുതിയും, ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ തിരിപിടുത്തവും അരിക്കൂത്ത് വഴിപാടും വളരെ പ്രശസ്തമാണ്.
