Chala Mahadeva temple is situated in Chennithala, close to Mavelikara in the Alappuzha district of Kerala. This sacred site is devoted to the worship of Shiva.
The temple’s main festival is the annual Mahashivratri, celebrated in Kumbha Masam (February–March). A Shivling is worshipped in a square sanctum sanctorum, called the chathura sreekovil, with the deity facing west. The temple has a nalambalam and a namaskara mandapam. There are also separate shrines for the Upa Devatas, which include Ganapathi, Devi, Ayyappa, and Subramanya.
The annual festival is well-known for rituals such as dhara, homam, and other pujas commonly observed in Shiva temples in South Kerala. A unique part of the celebration is the kala, or large ox effigies, which are pulled to the temple during the festival. The temple also observes other important occasions, including Ramayana Masam, Vinayaka Chaturthi, Mandala Kalam, Thrikarthika, and Thiruvathira.
ചാല ശ്രീ മഹാദേവർ ക്ഷേത്രം
ആലപ്പുഴ ജില്ലയിൽ മാവേലിക്കരക്കടുത്ത് സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ചെന്നിത്തല ഗ്രാമത്തിൽ ചെന്നിത്തല ചാല മഹാദേവ ക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു. ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം ശ്രീ പരമേശ്വരനു സമർപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. കുംഭ മാസത്തിലെ (ഫെബ്രുവരി - മാർച്ച്) മഹാശിവരാത്രി ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന വാർഷിക ഉത്സവമാണ്.
പടിഞ്ഞാറ് ദർശനമുള്ള ചതുരാകൃതിയിലുള്ള ശ്രീകോവിലിലാണ് പ്രതിഷ്ഠ.
അതിനാൽ മഹാദേവൻ പടിഞ്ഞാറ് ദർശനമായി നിലകൊള്ളുന്നു. നാലമ്പലവും നമസ്കാര മണ്ഡപവും ശ്രീകോവിലിനോട് ചേർന്നാണ്. ഗണപതി, ദേവി, അയ്യപ്പൻ, സുബ്രഹ്മണ്യൻ എന്നിവരുടെ പ്രത്യേക ആരാധനാലയങ്ങൾ ഇവിടെ ഉണ്ട്.
ശിവക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ പ്രധാനമായും ആചരിക്കുന്ന ധാര, മൃത്യുഞ്ജയ ഹോമം, മറ്റ് പൂജകൾ എന്നിവയ്ക്ക് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം പ്രശസ്തമാണ്. ശിവരാത്രിവൃതം, വാവുബലി (പിതൃതർപ്പണം) എന്നിവ ആചരിക്കാൻ നിരവധി ഭക്തർ ഇവിടെ എത്തുന്നു. വാർഷിക ഉത്സവം വളരെ ആചരിക്കുന്നു.
