Elanjimel Vallikavu Temple Budhanoor Alappuzha

There exist two groves: Thekke Kavu (South) and Vadakke Kavu (North), with Vadakke Kavu being the more significant of the two. The principal deity worshipped at this kavu is Goddess Bhadrakali, who is oriented towards the east. Entry into Vadakke Kavu is restricted for women, and men are prohibited from viewing the bimbam or vigraham. The Elanjimel Vallikavu Vadakkekavu Devi temple, regarded as ancient, is set in a picturesque location, accompanied by a grove that is home to numerous monkeys.

This tradition is deeply rooted, as women and even young girls are not permitted to enter. Historically, women were allowed access; however, a particular incident involving a woman led to a divine oracle instructing the priest to enforce a ban on female entry. During the 'Devaprashnam,' it was further determined that women should remain excluded from the temple. The temple observes a specific tradition whereby men are permitted to enter and pray within its premises; however, the doors of the sreekovil (sanctum sanctorum) remain perpetually closed to them.

Access is granted solely through the eastern door of the temple. The shrine is accessible on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Fridays, in addition to the first day of each Malayalam month and for a duration of 32 days from Vrischikam 1 to Dhanu 1. The temple's priest is a Kuruppu, and the Nadapanthal is situated on the southern side of the temple. This temple is associated with the Mundappali family. The principal festival of Elanjimel Vallikavu commences on the Chathayam nakshatra during the month of Chingam. This celebration spans a duration of 14 days and is referred to as Maka Mahotsavam. Kalamezhuthu pattu takes place throughout all fourteen days, with the twelfth day being of particular significance. Additionally, Padayani is celebrated in the month of Kumbham.

The primary naivedya offered at the temple consists of kalapodi, which is prepared from rice powder, turmeric powder, kari podi, and vakayila podi. This mixture is utilized in the Kalamezhuthu pattu. Other offerings include vara podi, honey, and therali. According to tradition, the Thekke kavu temple was established at a later time. The rituals here are conducted by a Brahmin priest, and Goddess Bhagavathi is also venerated in this temple. The Upa Devatas include Indalayappan, Yakshi Amma, and Bhuta Ganas. It is said that Vilwamangalam Swamiyar once engaged in bhajana at this location.

ആലപ്പുഴ ജില്ലയിലെ മാവേലിക്കരയ്ക്ക് സമീപമുള്ള ബുധനൂരിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ഇലഞ്ഞിമേൽ വള്ളിക്കാവ് ക്ഷേത്രം ഭഗവതിക്ക് സമർപ്പിച്ച ഒരു ആരാധനാലയമാണ്. വൻമരങ്ങളും വള്ളികളും അടിക്കാടും പടർന്ന് പന്തലിച്ച ഹരിതാഭത്തിൽ പ്രകൃതിയെ ദേവതയായി ആരാധിക്കുന്ന മനോഹരമായ സ്ഥലം. കാവിലെ മരങ്ങൾ ഇവിടെ ഉപദേവതകളായി കണക്കാക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. ഇഴജന്തുക്കളും വന്യമൃഗങ്ങളുമില്ലാത്ത ഒരു ചെറു കാനനമാണ് ഇത്, പക്ഷികൾക്കായി സമൃദ്ധമായ ഒരു സ്ഥലം. നിരവധി കുരങ്ങുകളുടെ ആവാസകേന്ദ്രമായ ഈ ക്ഷേത്ര പരിസരം, നൂറുകണക്കിന് കുരങ്ങുകൾ വസിക്കുന്ന ഒരു ചെറു കാനനമായി മാറിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. കാവിലൂടെ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലേക്ക് എത്തുന്ന പ്രധാന നടപ്പാതയും ഇവിടെ ഉണ്ട്. ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ സ്ത്രീകൾക്ക് പ്രവേശനം അനുവദിച്ചിട്ടില്ല.

ആലപ്പുഴ ജില്ലയിലെ മാവേലിക്കരയ്ക്ക് സമീപമുള്ള ബുധനൂരിലാണ് ഇലഞ്ഞിമേൽ വള്ളിക്കാവ് സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നത്. ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം ഭഗവതിക്ക് സമർപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. ഇവിടെ രണ്ട് കാവുകൾ ഉണ്ട് - തെക്കേ കാവും വടക്കേ കാവും. പ്രധാന കാവ് വടക്കേ കാവാണ്, അതിലെ പ്രധാന മൂർത്തി ഭദ്രകാളിയാണ്. കിഴക്കോട്ട് ദർശനമായാണ് പ്രതിഷ്ഠ. വടക്കേ കാവിൽ സ്ത്രീകൾക്ക് പ്രവേശനം അനുവദിച്ചിട്ടില്ല, കൂടാതെ ബിംബമോ വിഗ്രഹമോ കാണാൻ പുരുഷന്മാർക്കും അനുമതി ഇല്ല. ചിങ്ങമാസത്തിലെ ചതയം നക്ഷത്രത്തിൽ ഇലഞ്ഞിമേൽ വള്ളിക്കാവിലെ പ്രധാന ഉത്സവം ആരംഭിക്കുന്നു. 14 ദിവസങ്ങളോളം നീണ്ടുനിൽക്കുന്ന ഈ ഉത്സവം "മക മഹോത്സവം" എന്ന പേരിൽ അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു.

കളമെഴുത്ത് പാട്ട് പതിന്നാലു ദിവസവും നടക്കുന്നു, അതിൽ 12-ാം ദിവസം ഏറ്റവും പ്രധാനമാണ്. കുംഭമാസത്തിൽ പടയണി നടക്കും. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന നൈവേദ്യം കളപ്പൊടിയാണ്, ഇത് അരിപ്പൊടി, മഞ്ഞൾപ്പൊടി, കരിപ്പൊടി, വാകയിലപ്പൊടി എന്നിവ ഉപയോഗിച്ച് നിർമ്മിക്കുന്നു. ഈ പൊടി കളമെഴുത്ത് പാട്ടിൽ ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നു. വര പൊടി, തേൻ, തെരളി എന്നിവയും മറ്റ് നൈവേദ്യങ്ങളാണ്. വിശ്വാസപ്രകാരം, തെക്കേകാവ് ക്ഷേത്രം പിന്നീട് നിർമ്മിതമായതാണ്. ഇവിടെ പൂജ നടത്തുന്നത് ബ്രാഹ്മണ പുരോഹിതനാണ്. ഭഗവതിയെ ഇവിടെ ആരാധിക്കുന്നു. ഇണ്ടളയപ്പൻ, യക്ഷി അമ്മ, ഭൂതഗണങ്ങൾ എന്നിവയാണ് ഉപദേവതകൾ. വില്വമംഗലം സ്വാമിയാർ ഇവിടെ ഭജനയിൽ ഇരുന്നുവെന്നു പറയപ്പെടുന്നു.
