Kadavil Sree Mahalakshmi Temple Pallipuram Alappuzha

The Temple is estimated to be around 1000 years old and is commonly referred to as Kadavil Sri Mahalakshmi. Typically, temples feature a primary deity known as the Athi Devatha, which represents the authority of a specific planet. A distinctive aspect of this temple is that the Athi Devathas for all planets are positioned at the entrance.

Additionally, a stone representation of the crocodile vahana associated with Mother Mahalakshmi is situated within the sanctum sanctorum. Surrounding the temple are various subdeity lords, including Ganapathy, Aiyappa, Shiva, Kodungali, and Kshetra Palakas. Devotees seek blessings from Lord Narayana and Mother Mahalakshmi for prosperous marriages and the gift of children. In gratitude for the fulfillment of their wishes, devotees present offerings to both the Lord and the Mother. The temple's origins can be traced back a millennium.

The principal deity, known as Kadavil Mahalakshmi, is depicted holding a paddy stalk and a parrot in her lower hands, while her upper hands carry a discus and a conch, symbolizing the promise of prosperity to her devotees. She is oriented towards the east, gazing upon Lord Suryanarayana. This temple is unique in Kerala as it is solely dedicated to Mahalakshmi. At dawn, devotees traditionally cleanse their faces, hands, and legs in the tank where Mahalakshmi is believed to have descended, offering prayers to her and to Lord Suryanarayana for a blissful marriage. Centuries ago, individuals involved in weaving from Kancheepuram migrated to Cherthala in the state of Kerala. During their time in Kancheepuram, they constructed a temple dedicated to Mother Mahalakshmi. Upon settling in Cherthala, they aspired to establish a similar temple in this new location.

According to the Puranas, Mahalakshmi was transported from Kancheepuram to this site on the back of a crocodile. The area adjacent to a large lake, where Mother alighted, is still well-preserved by her devotees. Although the lake's water is generally salty, the spot where Mother arrived is notably sweet. It is said that the crocodile was provided with food and water at that time. Subsequently, a statue was crafted and enshrined in the sanctum sanctorum. This temple is the sole establishment in the state of Kerala that is exclusively dedicated to the worship of Mother Mahalakshmi.

ആലപ്പുഴ ജില്ലയിലെ ചേർത്തല താലൂക്കിൽ പള്ളിപ്പുറം വില്ലേജിന്റെ വടക്കുഭാഗത്ത്, വേമ്പനാട്ട്കായലിന്റെ പടിഞ്ഞാറൻ തീരത്ത്, ആചാര്യന്മാർ ക്ഷേത്രനിർമ്മാണത്തിന് അനുയോജ്യമായ സ്ഥലത്ത് കിഴക്ക് ദർശനമായി സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന, കേരളത്തിലെ അതിപുരാതനവും പ്രശസ്തവുമായ ശ്രീമഹാലക്ഷ്മി ദേവിയുടെ ബിംബ പ്രതിഷ്ഠയുള്ള ഏക ദേവാലയമാണ് പള്ളിപ്പുറം കടവിൽ ശ്രീമഹാലക്ഷ്മി ക്ഷേത്രം. ശംഖ്, ചക്രം, നെൽ കതിർ ശുകം (തത്ത) എന്നിവ നാലു തൃക്കരങ്ങളിൽ ഏന്തി പ്രത്യക്ഷ ഭാവത്തിൽ നിൽക്കുന്ന അപൂർവ്വവും അത്യന്തം പ്രാധാന്യമുള്ള ലക്ഷ്മീ സങ്കൽപ്പമാണിവിടെ. ഭക്തന്മാരും യോഗികളുമുള്ള ദേവിയുടെ സാന്നിധ്യം ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ വിഗ്രഹ രൂപത്തിൽ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

സമുദ്രത്തിന്റെ ആഴത്തിൽ ശ്രീപതിയോടൊപ്പം വാണരുളുന്ന ശ്രീഭഗവതിയുടെ സാന്നിധ്യം കായലിന്റെ സമീപത്തുള്ള ഈ വിശുദ്ധ ഭൂമിയിൽ നിലനിൽക്കുന്നു. ഇവിടെ ചുമർചിത്രങ്ങളോടുകൂടിയ ചതുരശ്ര ശ്രീകോവിലാണുള്ളത്. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ ചരിത്രം ഏകദേശം ആയിരം വർഷങ്ങളായി നിലനിൽക്കുന്നു. വിഗ്രഹത്തിന്റെ പ്രാധാന്യം എത്രയും വിശദമായി പറഞ്ഞാലും, അതിന്റെ മഹത്വം അളക്കാൻ കഴിയില്ല. പുരാതന കാലത്ത് ക്ഷേത്ര നഗരമായ കാഞ്ചീപുരത്ത് താമസിച്ചിരുന്ന ഒരു ജനവിഭാഗത്തിന്റെ പ്രധാന കുലദേവതയാണ് ശ്രീമഹാലക്ഷ്മി. ശൈവ, വൈഷ്ണവ, ശാക്തേയ കേന്ദ്രങ്ങളാൽ പ്രശസ്തമായ കാഞ്ചിനഗരത്തിൽ രാജകുടുംബത്തിലെ അംഗങ്ങൾ പോലും ഈ ദേവതയെ ഉപാസിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ ഉപദേവതകളായ ശ്രീമഹാദേവനും ശ്രീധർമ്മശാസ്താവും സ്ഥാനമെടുത്തു. ശ്രീമഹാദേവൻ വടക്കുവശത്ത് പടിഞ്ഞാറോട്ടു മുഖമായി, ശ്രീധർമ്മശാസ്താവ് തെക്കുവശത്ത് കിഴക്കോട്ടു ദർശനം കൊടുക്കുന്നു. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ മുഖമണ്ഡപത്തിലെ തൂണിൽ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിതനായ ശ്രീഗണപതിയും മറ്റൊരു പ്രധാന സവിശേഷതയാണ്, കൂടാതെ കന്നിമൂലയിലും ഗണപതി പ്രതിഷ്ഠയുണ്ട്. ഗണപതിയെ ദേവീപ്രധാന ഉപാസകർ ബുദ്ധിയും സിദ്ധിയും പ്രദാനം ചെയ്യുന്ന ജ്ഞാനസാധകനായി ആരാധിക്കുന്നു. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ വലംപിരി ഗണപതി, ഐശ്വര്യവും സമൃദ്ധിയും ജ്ഞാനവും നല്കുന്ന മഹത്വത്തോടെ ആരാധിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു.

ദേവിയുടെ വലതുവശത്ത് ദർശനമായ് ശ്രീധർമ്മശാസ്താവിനും, മണ്ഡലകാലത്ത് വിശേഷപൂജകൾ, കളഭാഭിഷേകം എന്നിവ നടപ്പാക്കുന്നു. ഭഗവാൻ ശിവനെ വൈക്കത്ത് വാഴുന്ന മംഗളമൂർത്തിയായി വിശ്വസിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. കായൽ കരയിലുള്ള ക്ഷേത്രകുളത്തിൽ ഉപ്പിന്റെ അംശം ഇല്ലായെന്നത് അതിശയകരമായ ഒരു കാര്യമാണ്. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ താന്ത്രിക അവകാശം പ്രശസ്തമായ മോനാട്ട് മനയ്ക്കാണ്. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന ഉത്സവം മകരമാസത്തിൽ എട്ടാം നാൾ മകം കൊടികയറി ആറാട്ട് നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു. കുംഭത്തിൽ മകം നാളിൽ ലക്ഷ്മീനാരായണ സംഗമമുഹൂർത്തത്തിൽ സർവ്വാഭരണങ്ങളാൽ അലങ്കരിച്ച ഭഗവതി ദർശനമരുളുന്നു.

ആ ദിവസം കേരളത്തിന്റെ വിവിധ ഭാഗങ്ങളിൽ നിന്നുള്ള ഭക്തർ, കാഞ്ചീപുരത്തുനിന്നും, വലിയ എണ്ണം ഇവിടെ എത്തിച്ചേരുന്നു. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ മറ്റ് പ്രധാന ആഘോഷങ്ങൾ മണ്ഡല പൂജയോടൊപ്പം ധനു മാസത്തിലെ പ്രന്തണ്ടുകളഭവും കന്നിമാസത്തിലെ നവരാത്രിയുമാണ്. എല്ലാ മലയാള മാസങ്ങളിലും മകം നക്ഷത്രത്തിൽ പ്രത്യേക തന്ത്രി പൂജയും, നവകം അഭിഷേകം, അന്നദാനം എന്നിവ നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു.

ലക്ഷ്മി നാരായണ പൂജ, പുഷ്പാഞ്ജലി, നെയ്യ് വിളക്, നെയ് പായസം എന്നിവയാണ് ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന ചടങ്ങുകൾ. കളഭാഭിഷേകം, ചുറ്റുവിളക്ക്, അന്നദാനം എന്നിവയും പ്രധാന സമർപ്പണങ്ങളാണ്. സാധാരണ ദിവസങ്ങളിൽ വെളുപ്പിന് 5 മണിക്ക് നട തുറന്ന് നിർമാല്യം തുടങ്ങിയ ചടങ്ങുകൾക്ക് ശേഷം 10.30-ന് ഉച്ചപൂജയ്ക്ക് ശേഷം നട അടക്കുന്നു. എന്നാൽ വിശേഷ ദിവസങ്ങളിലും, വെള്ളിയാഴ്ചകളിലും പന്ത്രണ്ട് മണിവരെ നട തുറന്നിരിക്കും. (വെള്ളിയാഴ്ചകളിൽ അന്നദാനം ഉണ്ടായിരിക്കും) വൈകിട്ട് 5 മണിക്ക് നട തുറന്ന് 7 മണിക്ക് ദീപാരാധനയും 7.30-ന് അത്താഴപൂജയ്ക്ക് ശേഷം നട അടക്കുന്നു.
