The Kalarcode Mahadeva temple is situated in proximity to SD College in the Alappuzha district. This sacred site is devoted to Lord Shiva, and the sanctum sanctorum is oriented towards the east.
It is widely accepted that the prathishta in the temple was conducted by Kallikrodda Maharishi. The Upa Devatas honored within the temple include Goddess Parvati and Ganapathy. The sreekovil dedicated to Ganapathy also features murtis of Muruga, Sri Krishna, Sastha, and Kunti, the mother of the Pandavas. The annual festival, lasting eight days, concludes on the Amavasya day in the month of Thulam. The annual festival is celebrated during the Malayalam month of Thulam, which corresponds to October and November.
The commencement of the festival is marked by a flag hoisting ceremony. The shrine is adorned with traditional decorations, including plantain, coconut leaves, flowers, and lamps. Throughout the festival, special poojas and offerings are conducted, and annadanam is provided daily. The festival features performances of traditional arts, music, and dance. A large number of devotees gather to observe the various events and rituals. Each day of the festival includes numerous cultural programs and temple arts, alongside religious discourses. The festivities also showcase caparisoned elephants, melam, fireworks, and sheevali. On the concluding day, the Arattu, or holy bath, occurs, during which the utsava murti of the deity is taken from the shrine for ritual bathing.
കളർകോട് മഹാദേവ ക്ഷേത്രം
ആലപ്പുഴ ജില്ലയിൽ കളർകോട് എന്ന സ്ഥലത്ത് സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ഒരു അതിപുരാതനമായ ക്ഷേത്രമാണ് കളർകോട് മഹാദേവക്ഷേത്രം. പ്രധാന ദേവതയായ മഹാദേവൻ കിഴക്കു ദർശനത്തോടുകൂടിയാണ്. കളർകോട് ജംഗ്ഷനിൽ എസ്. ഡി. കോളേജിന് സമീപത്താണ് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നത്. കല്ലിക്രോഢ മഹർഷി പരമശിവനെ തപസ്സുചെയ്തപ്പോൾ ഭഗവാൻ സ്വയംഭൂവായി ഇവിടെ പ്രത്യക്ഷപ്പെട്ടുവെന്നു പറയപ്പെടുന്നു. അമ്പലപ്പുഴയിലെ ഭരണാധികാരികളായ ചെമ്പകശ്ശേരി രാജാക്കന്മാരുടെ ഉടമസ്ഥതയായിരുന്നു ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം. കല്ല്യക്രോഢ മഹർഷിക്ക് സ്വയംഭൂവായി ശ്രീമഹാദേവന്റെ ദർശനം ലഭിക്കുകയും, തുടർന്ന് മഹർഷി ശിവപ്രീതിയോടെ അവിടെ താമസിച്ച് മഹാദേവനു പൂജ നടത്തുകയും ചെയ്തുവെന്നാണ് പ്രാചീനകഥ. മഹർഷിയുടെ ബഹുമാനാർത്ഥം ഈ ശിവപൂജ നടത്തിയ സ്ഥലം കല്ലിക്രോഢപുരം എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്നു.
പില്ക്കാലത്ത് കല്ലിക്രോഢപുരം നഷ്ടപ്പെട്ട ശേഷം, കല്ലിക്രോഢം പിന്നീട് കളർകോഡായി മാറിയതായും ഐതിഹ്യം പറയുന്നു. തുലാം മാസമായ ഒക്ടോബർ/നവംബർ മാസത്തിൽ വാർഷിക ഉത്സവം ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നു. ഉത്സവത്തിന്റെ തുടക്കം കൊടിയേറ്റം കൊണ്ട് ആണ്. വാഴ, കുരുത്തോല, പൂക്കൾ, ഇലകൾ, പരമ്പരാഗത വിളക്കുകൾ എന്നിവ ഉപയോഗിച്ച് ക്ഷേത്രം അലങ്കരിക്കുന്നു. ഉത്സവകാലത്ത് പ്രത്യേക പൂജകളും വഴിപാടുകളും നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു. കൂടാതെ, എല്ലാ ദിവസങ്ങളിലും അന്നദാനവും നടക്കുന്നു. ഉത്സവകാലത്ത് പരമ്പരാഗത കലാരൂപങ്ങൾ, സംഗീതം, നൃത്തം എന്നിവ അരങ്ങേറുന്നു. ചടങ്ങുകൾ കാണാൻ ആയിരക്കണക്കിന് ഭക്തർ എത്തുന്നു. ഉത്സവത്തിന്റെ എല്ലാ ദിവസങ്ങളിലും പ്രഭാഷണങ്ങൾക്കൊപ്പം നിരവധി സാംസ്കാരിക പരിപാടികളും ക്ഷേത്രകലകളും അവതരിപ്പിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു.
ആനകൾ, മേളം, വെടിക്കെട്ട്, ശീവേലി എന്നിവ ഉത്സവത്തിന്റെ ഭാഗമാണ്. അവസാന ദിവസം ദേവന്റെ ഉത്സവ മൂർത്തിയെ ആചാരപരമായ സ്നാനത്തിനായി ശ്രീകോവിലിൽ നിന്ന് പുറത്തെടുക്കുന്നു. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന് മുന്നിലുള്ള വിശാല കുളത്തിൽ പ്രത്യേകമായി ഒരുക്കിയ സ്ഥലത്ത് ആറാട്ടോടെ ഉത്സവം സമാപിക്കുന്നു. കുംഭമാസത്തിലെ ശിവരാത്രി, ധനുമാസത്തിലെ തിരുവാതിര, ചിങ്ങത്തിലെ തിരുവോണം, വിനായക ചതുർത്ഥി, അഷ്ടമിരോഹിണി, കന്നിമാസത്തിലെ പൂജവയ്പ്പ്, വിദ്യാരംഭം, തുലാമാസത്തിലെ ആയില്യംപൂജ, വൃശ്ചികമാസത്തിലെ മണ്ഡലപൂജ, മേടത്തിൽ വിഷുക്കണി, സപ്താഹം, കർക്കിടക മാസത്തിലെ രാമായണമാസം എന്നിവയാണ് ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന ആഘോഷ ദിനങ്ങൾ.
