Azhakiyakavu Devi Temple is located in Kallisseri, within the Chengannur taluk of the Alappuzha district in Kerala, India. This temple is a Hindu place of worship dedicated to the goddess Bhadrakali.
The temple is among the 30 temples located in the Central Travancore region, where the traditional Dravidian ritualistic art form known as Padayani is celebrated each year. It is situated 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) from both the Chengannur Railway Station and the Bus Stand. Azhakiyakavu Devi Temple is situated in Kallisserry, within the Chengannur taluk, alongside the sacred Pamba River. The temple is overseen by an elected committee representing four surrounding kara (sub-provinces), specifically Umayattu Kara, Mepram, Mazhukkeer, and Thaimaravum Kara.
Each of these small provinces possesses its own snake-boats, which compete in the Aranmula and various local snake-boat races during the Onam festival. The principal deity of the temple is Bhadrakali. The idol of the goddess is crafted from wood, featuring four arms and seated upon a vethalam. The temple also honors several sub-deities, including Karimkali, Yakshiamma, Rakshassu, and the Naga Devatas. Various rituals and offerings are performed, such as Chanthattam, Archana, Pushpanjali, Ganapathy Homam, Sahasra Namarchana, Muzhukappu, and Payasam.
Additionally, Kolam Thullal is presented as an offering during the annual festival. The Padayani festival is observed annually at this temple over a span of eight days, beginning from the Uthradam Star day and concluding on the Aswathy Star day in the Malayalam month of Kumbham (February–March). This celebration incorporates ancient folk dramas, including Kakkasassi Natakam Padayani Mela and Pooppada Thullal, with the most significant aspect being the Kolam Thullal. Various Kolams such as Bhairavi Kolam, Kalan Kolam (Kalari), Sundara Yakshi, and Ambara Yakshi are showcased during the event.
These Kolams are crafted on areca palm sheaths using natural dyes. Skilled dancers don these Kolams as masks, complemented by breastplates made from the same material, and perform to specially composed songs, accompanied by the rhythmic sounds of the thappu percussion instrument. Additionally, festivals such as Kumbha Bharani, Meena Bharani, Shivaratri, Navaratri, and Thirukkarthika are also celebrated.

ആലപ്പുഴ ജില്ലയിൽ ചെങ്ങന്നൂരിലെ കല്ലിശ്ശേരി എന്ന സ്ഥലത്ത് സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ഈ മഹാദേവി ക്ഷേത്രം വളരെ പ്രശസ്തമാണ്. ചെങ്ങന്നൂർ റെയിൽവേ സ്റ്റേഷനിൽ നിന്നും ബസ് സ്റ്റാൻഡിൽ നിന്നും 4 കിലോമീറ്റർ അകലെയാണ് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം. വടക്കോട്ട് അഭിമുഖമായി ഭദ്രകാളി ഭാവത്തിൽ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിതമായ ഈ ഭഗവതി അഭീഷ്ടവരദയായി അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. പരാശക്തിയായ ദുർഗ്ഗയെന്ന നിലയിൽ ഈ ദേവിയെ ആരാധിക്കുന്നു. മീനമാസത്തിലെ ഭരണി നാളിൽ ഇവിടെ ഉത്സവം ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നു. പുരാതന ദ്രാവിഡ ആചാരപരമായ കലാരൂപമായ പടയണി, വർഷം തോറും മധ്യതിരുവിതാംകൂറിലെ 30 ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നായാണ് ഇവിടെ അവതരിപ്പിക്കുന്നത്.
ചെങ്ങന്നൂർ താലൂക്കിലെ കല്ലിശ്ശേരിയിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന പുണ്യനദിയായ പമ്പയുടെ തീരത്താണ് അഴകിയകാവ് ദേവീക്ഷേത്രം. ഉമയാട്ടുകര, മേപ്രം, മഴുക്കീർ, തൈമറവും കര എന്നീ നാല് ഉപപ്രവിശ്യകളിൽ നിന്നുള്ള കമ്മിറ്റിയാണ് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ നിയന്ത്രണം നടത്തുന്നത്. ഈ ചെറിയ പ്രവിശ്യകൾക്ക് ഓരോന്നിനും അവരുടേതായ ചുണ്ടൻവള്ളങ്ങൾ ഉണ്ട്, അവ ഓണക്കാലത്ത് ആറന്മുളയിലും മറ്റ് പ്രാദേശിക ചുണ്ടൻവള്ളമത്സരങ്ങളിലും പങ്കെടുക്കുന്നു. ഭദ്രകാളി ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന പ്രതിഷ്ഠയാണ്. ഭഗവതിയുടെ വിഗ്രഹം നാലു കൈകളുള്ള ദാരുവിൽ വേതാളത്തിൽ ഇരിക്കുന്നു. ചെറിയ ദേവതകളിൽ കരിംകാളി, യക്ഷിയമ്മ, രാക്ഷസ്സു, നാഗ ദേവതകൾ എന്നിവ ഉൾപ്പെടുന്നു. ചാന്താട്ടം, അർച്ചന, പുഷ്പാഞ്ജലി, ഗണപതി ഹോമം, സഹസ്ര നാമാർച്ചന, മുഴുകപ്പ്, പായസം തുടങ്ങിയ ചടങ്ങുകൾ നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു.
കോലം തുള്ളൽ വാർഷിക ഉത്സവത്തോടനുബന്ധിച്ചുള്ള വഴിപാടാണ്. മലയാള മാസമായ കുംഭത്തിലെ (ഫെബ്രുവരി-മാർച്ച്) ഉത്രാടം നക്ഷത്രം മുതൽ അശ്വതി നക്ഷത്രം വരെ എട്ട് ദിവസങ്ങളോളം ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ പടയണി ഉത്സവം ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നു. കാക്കശശ്ശി നാടകം, പടയണി മേളം, പൂപ്പട തുള്ളൽ തുടങ്ങിയ പ്രാചീന നാടോടിക്കഥകൾ പടയണിയുടെ ഭാഗമായിട്ടുണ്ടെങ്കിലും, ഏറ്റവും പ്രധാനമായത് കോലം തുള്ളലാണ്. ഭൈരവി കോലം, കാളൻ കോലം (കളരി), സുന്ദര യക്ഷി, അംബര യക്ഷി എന്നിവയെല്ലാം ഇവിടെ ചിത്രീകരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. പ്രകൃതിദത്തമായ ചായം പൂശിയാണ് കോലം നിർമ്മിക്കാൻ ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നത്. പരിശീലനം നേടിയ നർത്തകർ ഈ മെറ്റീരിയലിന്റെ സ്തനഫലകങ്ങൾ മുഖംമൂടികളായി ധരിച്ച്, തപ്പു താളവാദ്യത്തിന്റെ അകമ്പടിയോടെ പാട്ടുകളുടെ താളത്തിൽ അവതരിപ്പിക്കുന്നു. കുംഭ ഭരണി, മീന ഭരണി, ശിവരാത്രി, നവരാത്രി, തൃക്കാർത്തിക തുടങ്ങിയ ഉത്സവങ്ങൾ ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ വളരെ ഗംഭീരമായി ആഘോഷിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു.
