Kamapuram Sankaranarayana temple is situated in Karumadi, within the Alappuzha district of Kerala.
The principal deity revered at this temple is Shankaranarayana, which represents the amalgamation of the deities Shiva and Vishnu.The principal deity is oriented towards the east.The temple's annual festival spans eight days, commencing with kodiyettam on the Chothi nakshatra during the month of Makaram (January – February).
The Upa Devatas honored in the temple include Shiva and Bhagavathi. Additionally, there is a prathishta of Arukola associated with Vaikom Padmanabha Pillai, which is believed to have been established by Sarvadiyakariyakkar. The primary offering at the temple is Terali, a sweet made from jaggery and rice flour, served on terali leaves. Nearby, one can find the renowned Karumadikuttan statue of Buddha, which is thought to have been an Upa Devata in the Sankaranarayana temple. Historically, the temple was under the ownership of the Ambalapuzha king, who granted it to four karas (villages).

ആലപ്പുഴ ജില്ലയിൽ അമ്പലപ്പുഴ തിരുവല്ല റോഡിൽ കരുമാടി ജംഗ്ഷനിൽ നിന്ന് ഒരു മിനിറ്റ് യാത്ര ചെയ്താൽ പ്രശസ്തമായ കാമപുരത്ത് കാവിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ശങ്കരനാരായണ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ എത്തിച്ചേരാം. ഇവിടെ പ്രധാന പ്രതിഷ്ഠ ശങ്കരനായണമൂർത്തിയാണ്. ഭഗവാൻ ശങ്കരനാരായണൻ കേരളത്തിലെ തന്ത്രത്തിൽ മറ്റൊരു പ്രധാന ദേവതാ സങ്കല്പമാണ്. നൂറ്റാണ്ടുകൾക്കുമുമ്പ് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം ശിവ വൈഷ്ണവ ക്ഷേത്രമായിരുന്നു, എന്നാൽ ഇന്ന് വൈഷ്ണവ ആരാധനയ്ക്ക് കൂടുതൽ പ്രാധാന്യം നൽകുന്നു.
ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ നടയുടെ മുന്നിലെ ചലിക്കുന്ന കൽവിളക്കിന്റെ കാരണം കണ്ടെത്താൻ സാധിച്ചിട്ടില്ല. ഈ അത്ഭുതം കാണാൻ നിരവധി ആളുകൾ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ എത്തുന്നു. ഇരുപത് വർഷത്തിനിടെ ഈ കൽവിളക്ക് ഏകദേശം ഒന്നര മീറ്റർ പിന്നോട്ട് നീങ്ങിയതായി ക്ഷേത്ര ഭാരവാഹികളും സമീപവാസികളും സ്ഥിരീകരിക്കുന്നു. ശങ്കരനാരായണൻ, അർദ്ധനാരീശ്വരൻ എന്ന നിലയിൽ, പകുതി ശിവനും, പകുതി വിഷ്ണുവും ആയ രൂപത്തിൽ, നാലു കൈകളിൽ ശംഖ്, ചക്രം, ത്രിശൂലം, അഭയമുദ്ര എന്നിവയുമായി ദിവ്യ ഭാവത്തിൽ ഇരിക്കുന്നു.
64 ശിവാവതാരങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നായ കേശവാർദ്ധ മൂർത്തി അല്ലെങ്കിൽ ശങ്കരൻ നാരായണൻ എന്ന പേരിൽ അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. ശങ്കരനാരായണനെ ശൈവവും വൈഷ്ണവവും രണ്ട് രീതികളിലും ആരാധിക്കാം. ഒരു രീതിയിൽ, ബ്രഹ്മത്തിന്റെ ദൃശ്യ രൂപം എന്ന നിലയിൽ ഹരിഹരൻ കാണപ്പെടുന്നു. കേരളത്തിലും മറ്റ് സ്ഥലങ്ങളിലും നിരവധി ശങ്കരനാരായണ ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങൾ നിലനിൽക്കുന്നു.
ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന വഴിപാട് തേരാളിയാണ്, ഇത് ശർക്കരയും അരിപ്പൊടിയും ഉപയോഗിച്ച് തയ്യാറാക്കുന്ന മധുരമാണ്. ബുദ്ധന്റെ പ്രശസ്തമായ കരുമാടിക്കുട്ടൻ പ്രതിമ ഇവിടെ സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്നു, ശങ്കരനാരായണ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ ഉപദേവതയായിരുന്നു കരുമാടിക്കുട്ടൻ എന്നാണ് വിശ്വാസം.
