Thiru Avimkunnam Temple, also known as Karazhma Devi Temple, is situated in the village of Karazhma, to the east of the Mavelikara-Tiruvalla road, within the Chennithala panchayat of Alappuzha district.
Achan Kovilar and Pampayar tributaries flow along the eastern perimeter of the temple. The Thiruvalla Kayamkulam State Highway runs adjacent to the western side of the temple. Located to the south-west of the temple is the Sri Subhananda Ashram, which serves as the hub for the Atmabodhodhya Sangam. Chennithala Palliyodam, participating in the Uthrittathi boat race, navigates through Ammankovilar and enters Pampayar via this tributary, ultimately reaching Thiru Aranmula. Prior to its entry into Pampayar, the Palliyodam docks at the quay near the Madam, situated on the eastern side of the Karazhma Temple. Upon arrival at the quay, all individuals aboard the Palliyodam disembark to enter the Karazhma Temple, where they perform eighteen stanzas of Vanchippattu in honor of Karazh Amma. Following this, they return to the Palliyodam, encircle the temple, and proceed on their journey to Aranmula.
കാരാഴ്മ ദേവി ക്ഷേതം
ആലപ്പുഴ ജില്ലയിലെ മാവേലിക്കര താലൂക്കിലെ ചെന്നിത്തല പഞ്ചായത്തിൽ, മാവേലിക്കര-തിരുവല്ല പാതയുടെ കിഴക്കുവശത്ത് സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന കാരാഴ്മ എന്ന ഗ്രാമത്തിലാണ് തിരു അവിംകുന്നം ക്ഷേത്രം, അല്ലെങ്കിൽ കാരാഴ്മ ദേവി ക്ഷേത്രം. മധ്യ തിരുവിതാംകൂറിലെ അതിപുരാതനവും ചരിത്രപരമായും പ്രശസ്തമായ ക്ഷേത്രമാണ് ഇത്. ഏകദേശം ഒരു സഹസ്രാബ്ദത്തോളം പഴക്കമുള്ള ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം, അതിന്റെ സമ്പന്നമായ ചരിത്രം കൊണ്ട് ശ്രദ്ധേയമാണ്.
ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ കിഴക്കു ഭാഗത്തായി അച്ചൻ കോവിലാറിന്റെയും പമ്പയാറിന്റെയും കൈവഴി ഒഴുകുന്നു. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ പടിഞ്ഞാറ് വശത്തായി തിരുവല്ല കായംകുളം സംസ്ഥാന പാത കടന്നുപോകുന്നു. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ തെക്ക് പടിഞ്ഞാറ് ഭാഗത്ത് ആത്മബോധോധയ സംഘത്തിന്റെ കേന്ദ്രമായ ശ്രീ ശുഭാനന്ദ ആശ്രമം സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു. ചെന്നിത്തല പള്ളിയോടം വഴി ഉതൃട്ടാതി വള്ളംകളിക്ക് പോകുന്ന യാത്ര, അച്ഛന്കോവിലാർ വഴി കടന്നുപോകുന്നു. ഈ കൈവഴിയിലൂടെ പമ്പയാറ്റിലേക്ക് പ്രവേശിച്ച്, തിരു ആറന്മുളയിൽ എത്തുന്നു.
പമ്പയാറ്റിലേക്ക് പ്രവേശിക്കുന്നതിന് മുമ്പ്, പള്ളിയോടം കാരാഴ്മ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ കിഴക്ക് ഭാഗത്തുള്ള മഠത്തിൽ കടവിൽ എത്തുമ്പോൾ, പള്ളിയോടം കരക്ക് അടിയ്ക്കുന്നു. പള്ളിയോടത്തിൽ നിന്നുള്ള എല്ലാവരും തുഴയായി കാരാഴ്മ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ എത്തി അമ്മയെ പ്രകീർത്തിച്ച് പതിനെട്ട് ചൊല്ലുള്ള വഞ്ചിപ്പാട്ട് പാടുന്നു. തുടർന്ന്, ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന് വലം വെച്ച് തിരികെ പള്ളിയോടത്തിൽ എത്തി, ആറന്മുളയിലേക്ക് യാത്ര തുടരുന്നു. ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം തിരുവിതാംകൂർ ദേവസ്വംബോർഡിന്റെ അധീനതയിലാണ്.
