Muthukulam Karunamuttam Mahadeva temple is situated in Muthukulam, within the Alappuzha district. This historic temple is devoted to the worship of Shiva.
Karunamuttam Mahadeva Temple, also known as Muthukulam Temple, holds the Shivaratri festival with great significance. One of the notable rituals is the chamayavilakku, in which young girls participate, a tradition believed to enhance fertility for devotees.
The main festival is the annual Shivratri celebration, which takes place in the Malayalam month of Kumbha Masam (February – March). The temple also houses deities of Ganapathy, Nagaraja, and Nagayakshi as Upa Devatas. The temple features a chatura sreekovil (square sanctum sanctorum) containing a sacred Shivling. Surrounding the main shrine is a namaskara mandapam, additional shrines for Upa Devatas, a well-maintained pond, and a chuttambalam. During the Shivratri festival, the temple observes both tantric and vedic rituals, including Abhisheka, Rudra homam, and various other archanas and pujas, making it a spiritually enriching experience for devotees.
കരുണാമുറ്റം ശ്രീ മഹാദേവ ക്ഷേത്രം
ആലപ്പുഴ ജില്ലയിലെ മുതുകുളത്ത് സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന കരുണാമുറ്റം മഹാദേവ ക്ഷേത്രം ഒരു പുരാതന ശിവ ക്ഷേത്രമാണ്. ഇത് കരുണാമുറ്റം മഹാദേവക്ഷേത്രം എന്ന പേരിലും അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. ശിവരാത്രി ആഘോഷങ്ങൾ ഇവിടെ വലിയ പ്രാധാന്യമർഹിക്കുന്നു, പ്രത്യേകിച്ച് ബാലികമാർ ചമയവിളക്ക് എടുക്കുന്ന ചടങ്ങ്. ഇഷ്ട സന്താനലബ്ദി നേടാൻ ദർശനം നടത്തുന്നത് സഹായകമാകുമെന്ന് വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നു.
മലയാള കുംഭ മാസത്തിൽ (ഫെബ്രുവരി - മാർച്ച്) നടക്കുന്ന വാർഷിക ശിവരാത്രി ഉത്സവം ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന ആഘോഷമാണ്. ഗണപതിയും നാഗരാജാവും നാഗയക്ഷിയുമാണ് ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ ഉപദേവതകൾ. ചതുരശ്രീകോവിലിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ ഒരു ശിവലിംഗം ഉണ്ട്. ശ്രീകോവിലിൽ നമസ്കാര മണ്ഡപം, ഉപദേവതാ ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങൾ എന്നിവ നന്നായി പരിപാലിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു.
