Bharanikavu Devi temple is situated in Bharanikavu, within the Alappuzha district, approximately 5 kilometers along the route from Kattanam to Mavelikara.
The principal deity worshipped at this site is Bhadrakali, who is depicted as fierce and oriented towards the north. Additionally, Sri Parameswaran is situated within the same sanctum, facing east; however, Bhadrakali holds greater significance. Notably, the full circumambulation is performed around the shrine of Lord Shiva.
A Buddha idol located on the eastern steps of the temple draws particular attention. Other notable Buddha idols in the vicinity can be found at Mavelikkara Buddha Kavala and Ambalapuzha Karumadi. The Bhadrakali temple, an ancient structure, along with the Buddhist idol on the wall, serves as a testament to the historical importance of the area. The temple hosts various religious activities, including Bhagavata Saptaham, Akhandanama Japa, and the reading of the Ramayana during the month of Karkitaka.
Additionally, ceremonies such as Ganapati homam, Bhagavati Seva, and Mahaganapati homam are conducted. Pujavaippu takes place in the month of Kanni, alongside Devi Bhagavata parayanam and special pujas dedicated to Ayyappan during the Mandalam period. Other significant rituals include special Guruti, Pushpanjali to the Goddess, and Sarvaishwarya Puja.
കറ്റാനം ഭരണിക്കാവ് ദേവി ക്ഷേത്രം
ഭരണിക്കാവ് എന്നത് ആലപ്പുഴ ജില്ലയിലെ ഒരു പഞ്ചായത്താണ്. കറ്റാനത്തുനിന്നും മാവേലിക്കരയിലേക്ക് പോകുന്ന വഴിയിൽ ഏകദേശം 5 കിലോമീറ്റർ അകലെയായി സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന പ്രസിദ്ധമായ ഭരണിക്കാവ് ക്ഷേത്രം ഈ പ്രദേശത്തുണ്ട്. ഈ സ്ഥലത്തിന്റെ പേര് ചരിത്രപരമായ ഭരണിക്കാവ് ദേവീക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ നിന്നാണ് ലഭിച്ചത്. വടക്കോട്ട് ഭദ്രകാളി, ഉഗ്രപ്രതാപിയായ ദേവി, പ്രധാന പ്രതിഷ്ഠയായി ഉണ്ട്. കിഴക്കോട്ട്, അതേ ശ്രീകോവിലിൽ ശ്രീ പരമേശ്വരനും സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു.
എന്നാൽ, ഭദ്രകാളിക്ക് കൂടുതൽ പ്രാധാന്യം നൽകുന്നു. ശിവന്റെ ശ്രീകോവിലായിട്ടും, അവിടെ മുഴുവൻ പ്രദക്ഷിണം നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു, സാധാരണയായി ശിവ ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ ഇത് നടത്താറില്ല. ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ കിഴക്കേ പടിപ്പുരയിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ഒരു ബുദ്ധവിഗ്രഹം ശ്രദ്ധേയമായ പ്രത്യേകതകളാണ് കൈവശം വഹിക്കുന്നത്. മാവേലിക്കര ബുദ്ധകവലയിലും അമ്പലപ്പുഴ കരുമാടിയിലും ഈ പ്രദേശത്ത് മറ്റ് ബുദ്ധവിഗ്രഹങ്ങൾ കണ്ടെത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. വളരെ പഴക്കമുള്ള സവിശേഷതകൾ ഉള്ള ഭദ്രകാളിക്ഷേത്രവും, മതിലകത്തുള്ള ബുദ്ധവിഗ്രഹവും ചരിത്രപരമായ പ്രത്യേകതകളായി കണക്കാക്കപ്പെടുന്നു.
