East Chammanad Sree Durgadevi Temple is situated in the Kotamthuruth Panchayat within the Cherthala Taluk of Alappuzha District.
There are two Chammanad temples located in the Kotamthuruth panchayat: the Chammannad Devi Temple and the East Chammannad Goddess Durga Temple. The East Chammanad Durga Devi Temple is situated 2 kilometers south of Alappuzha and Ezhupunna, along the Cherthala Kochi National Highway, positioned on the eastern side of the road. In this temple, the worship of Goddess Durga and Goddess Balabhadra is given equal significance.
The temple is adorned with Akshara deities surrounding the shrine, with the letters arranged in the form of deities. These Akshara deities are enshrined within the Kizhakke Chammanad Devi Temple. Currently, the temple is undergoing restoration, featuring two identical shrines situated within an enclosed area. One shrine will be dedicated to Durga, while the other will house Balabhadra. Surrounding the shrine of Goddess Durga, there are 51 wooden Akshara deities. Additionally, the construction of a large sculpture of Goddess Durga within the temple grounds is nearing completion. The 51 Akshara deities will be positioned outside the sanctum sanctorum on a brass plate.
The Upasanamurthys associated with the letters were derived from the Vedas, Siva Samhita, Devi Bhagavatam, Harinama Keertana, and the teachings of Shankaracharya. This marks the third temple to feature the Akshara deities. The eight-day Thiruvutsavam at the historic Chammanad temple, which serves as a sanctuary for numerous devotees, commences on Makairam day in the month of Dhanu and concludes on Pooram day. The birthday of Chammanatamma is celebrated on Makam day in the month of Makaram. 'Kalamkari' holds significant importance for Chammanatamma, while the 'Thadi' offering is dedicated to the sub-deity Ghantakarna Swami.
കിഴക്കേ ചമ്മനാട് ദുർഗ്ഗാദേവീ ക്ഷേത്രം
ആലപ്പുഴ ജില്ലയിൽ ചേർത്തല താലൂക്കിലെ കോടംതുരുത്ത് പഞ്ചായത്തിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന പ്രശസ്തമായ കിഴക്കേ ചമ്മനാട് ശ്രീ ദുഗ്ഗാദേവീ ക്ഷേത്രം ശ്രദ്ധേയമാണ്. കോടംതുരുത്ത് പഞ്ചായത്തിൽ രണ്ട് ചമ്മനാട് ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങൾ നിലനിൽക്കുന്നു: ചമ്മനാട് ദേവീ ക്ഷേത്രവും കിഴക്കേ ചമ്മനാട് ദുർഗ്ഗാ ദേവീ ക്ഷേത്രവും. ആലപ്പുഴയിൽ നിന്നും ചേർത്തല കൊച്ചി ദേശീയപാതയിലൂടെ എഴുപുന്നയിൽ നിന്നും 2 കിലോമീറ്റർ തെക്കായി, റോഡിന്റെ കിഴക്കുവശത്താണ് കിഴക്കേ ചമ്മനാട് ദുർഗ്ഗാദേവീ ക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നത്. ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ ദുർഗ്ഗാദേവിയും ബാലഭദ്രാദേവിയും സമാന പ്രാധാന്യത്തോടെ ആരാധിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു.
ശ്രീകോവിലിന്റെ ചുറ്റുപാടിൽ അക്ഷരദേവതകൾ നിറഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്ന ക്ഷേത്രം. ദേവീ രൂപങ്ങളായാണ് അക്ഷരങ്ങളെ സ്ഥാപിക്കുന്നത്. കിഴക്കേ ചമ്മനാട് ദേവീക്ഷേത്രത്തിലാണ് അക്ഷരദേവതകളുടെ രൂപീകരണം നടക്കുന്നത്. പുനരുദ്ധാരണ പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങൾ പുരോഗമിക്കുന്ന ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ, ഒരു ചുറ്റമ്പലത്തിനുള്ളിൽ സമാനമായ രണ്ട് ശ്രീകോവിലുകൾ നിർമ്മിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. ഒന്നിൽ ദുർഗയെയും മറ്റൊന്നിൽ ബാലഭദ്രാദേവിയെയും പ്രതിഷ്ഠിക്കുന്നു. ദുർഗാദേവിയുടെ ശ്രീകോവിലിന്റെ ചുറ്റുമാണ് മരത്തിൽ കൊത്തിയെടുത്ത 51 അക്ഷരദേവതകൾ സ്ഥാപിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്.
ക്ഷേത്രപരിസരത്ത് ദുർഗ്ഗാദേവിയുടെ വലിയ ശില്പത്തിന്റെ പണികൾ ഇപ്പോൾ അവസാന ഘട്ടത്തിലാണുള്ളത്. കിഴക്കേ ചമ്മനാട് ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ 8 ദിവസങ്ങളോളം നീണ്ടുനിൽക്കുന്ന തിരുവുത്സവം, അതിപുരാതനവും ഭക്തജനസഹസ്രങ്ങളുടെ അഭയകേന്ദ്രവുമായ ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ, ധനുമാസത്തിലെ മകയിരം നാളിൽ കൊടിയേറി, പൂരം നാളിൽ ആറാട്ടോടെ സമാപിക്കുന്നു. മകരമാസത്തിലെ മകം നാളിൽ ചമ്മനാട്ടമ്മയുടെ പിറന്നാൾ ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നു.
ചമ്മനാട്ടമ്മയ്ക്ക് കലംകരിയും, ഉപദേവനായ ഘണ്ഠാകർണ്ണ സ്വാമിക്ക് തടി വഴിപാടുമാണ് പ്രധാനമായും നൽകുന്നത്.പ്രധാനമായ പന്ത്രണ്ട് പാത്രം ഗുരുതി, ചിങ്ങത്തിലെ തിരുവോണം, വിനായക ചതുർത്ഥി, അഷ്ടമിരോഹിണി, കന്നിയിലെ പൂജവയ്പ്പ്, വിദ്യാരംഭം, തുലാമാസത്തിലെ ആയില്യംപൂജ, വൃശ്ചികമാസത്തിലെ മണ്ഡലകാലം, മകരത്തിലെ മകരവിളക്ക് മഹോത്സവം, പറ എഴുന്നെള്ളിപ്പ് ഉത്സവം, കുംഭത്തിലെ കാർത്തിക പൊങ്കൽ, മകരമാസത്തിലെ മകം നാളിലെ അമ്മയുടെ പിറന്നാൾ മഹോത്സവം, തൈപ്പൂയമഹോത്സവം, മേടത്തിൽ വിഷുക്കണി, സപ്താഹം, ദേവീഭാഗവതപാരായണം, കർക്കിടകമാസത്തിൽ രാമായണമാ സാചരണം എന്നിവയാണ് ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന ആഘോഷ ദിനങ്ങൾ.
