Kothesivapuram Temple is situated in the village of Poochakkal within the Alappuzha district. This ancient temple, which dates back approximately 2000 years, was originally constructed by Buddhist hermits.
Lord Siva is revered as the principal deity, accompanied by the sub-deities Ganapathy, Sasthavu, Nagayakshi, and Nagarajavu. The Navgrahas also hold significant importance within the same premises. The annual festival at the temple is celebrated during the 'aswathy' star in the month of 'kumbham'.
In the Malayalam months of 'Kanni' and 'Thulam', special poojas are conducted for Nagarajavu and Nagayakshi during the 'ayilyam' nakshathra. Additionally, the Sasthavu is honored with a ritual known as 'kalasham' during 'aswathy' in the month of 'meenam'.The Kotheswaram Temple was placed under the jurisdiction of the Travancore Devaswom Board.
കോതേശിവപുരം ക്ഷേത്രം
കോതേശിവപുരം ക്ഷേത്രം പ്രശസ്തമായ തൈക്കാട്ടുശ്ശേരി പുന്നക്കീഴിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു. ഇവിടെ രണ്ട് ദേവസ്വങ്ങൾ ഉണ്ട്: പുന്നക്കീഴിൽ ശ്രീ ഭഗവതി ദേവസ്വവും, കോതേശിവപുരം ദേവസ്വവും. പോർച്ചുഗീസ് ആക്രമണത്തെ നേരിടാൻ ചേർത്തലക്ക് വടക്കുള്ള പ്രദേശങ്ങൾ കൊച്ചിക്ക് കൈമാറിയതോടെ ഈ ദേവസ്വങ്ങൾ രൂപം കൊണ്ടു.
കോതേശ്വരം ക്ഷേത്രം തിരുവിതാംകൂർ ദേവസ്വം ബോർഡിന്റെ കീഴിലാണ് പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്നത്. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന പ്രതിഷ്ഠ ശിവഭഗവാനാണ്, കൂടാതെ ഗണപതി, ശാസ്താവ്, നാഗയക്ഷി, നാഗരാജാവ് എന്നിവയും ഉപദേവതകളായി ആരാധിക്കുന്നു. നവഗ്രഹങ്ങൾക്കും ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ സമാന പ്രാധാന്യമുണ്ട്.
കുംഭമാസത്തിലെ രേവതി നാൾ മഹോൽസവമായി ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നു. നാഗരാജവിനും നാഗയക്ഷിക്കും കന്നി, തുലാം മാസത്തിൽ ആയില്യ പൂജ നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു. മീനമാസത്തിലെ അശ്വതി നാളിൽ ശാസ്താവിന് കലശം നടത്തുന്നു.2000 വർഷത്തിലധികം പഴക്കമുള്ള ഈ കോതേശിവപുരം ക്ഷേത്രം ബുദ്ധ സന്യാസിമാരുടെ സ്ഥാപനം ആണ്.
