Kottadi Amman Kovil, located in Panavalli, Alappuzha district, is the main temple for the Vellala community, with Mutharamma as the primary deity.
During the reign of the Travancore Raja, the Nanchinat Pillas, belonging to the Vellalar community, migrated to Kerala from southern Tamil Nadu at the behest of the king. With their arrival, several deities, including Mutharamma, Ujjaini Kali, Mariamma, Kindimahakali, Madaswami, Bhairavan, and Vellarammi, were established in Kerala.
One of the oldest temples dedicated to these deities is the Kottadi Amman Kovil located in Panavalli.
Significant rituals performed at the temple include the Bow song, Gandharva song, Padukka offering, Kalamezhuth, and Naga songs dedicated to snakes, as well as Mavilak, Amman Koda, and Pongal. The principal idols enshrined in the temple comprise Mutharamma, Mariamma, Vellaramma (Kindi Mahakali), Madan, Kalabhairavan, Karanvar, Ganapati, Shastav, Gandharvas, Yakshis, Brahma Rakshas, Arukola, Naga Gods, Ezhan, Yasaki, and Chori Makar.
The Pratishtha anniversary is observed in conjunction with the conclusion of the festival that coincides with the Tiruvonam Nakshatra in the month of Vrischikam (Scorpio). Devotees from various regions of Kerala, particularly from south Travancore, gather at the temple to partake in the festivities. The five-day celebration typically commences with kalamezhuthu and devotional singing dedicated to the Naga Gods, incorporating rituals such as Shastra Patt, Gandharva Patt, and Villu Patt, ultimately culminating with the Kalasha during the Tiruvonam Nakshatram. Additionally, puja is conducted at the temple on the first Tuesday of each Malayalam month, and devotees wishing to perform puja are advised to notify the temple authorities in advance.

ആലപ്പുഴ ജില്ലയിൽ പാണാവള്ളിയിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന കൊട്ടടി അമ്മൻ കോവിൽ, വെള്ളാള സമുദായത്തിന്റെ പ്രധാന പ്രതിഷ്ഠയാണ്. ചേർത്തല അരൂക്കുറ്റി റോഡിൽ, ചേർത്തലയിൽ നിന്നും പതിനാറു കിലോമീറ്റർ അകലെ, കുഞ്ജരം സ്റ്റോപ്പിൽ നിന്നും അഞ്ഞൂറ് മീറ്റർ വലതുവശത്താണ് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നത്.
തിരുവിതാംകൂർ രാജവംശത്തിന്റെ ഭരണകാലത്ത്, തെക്കൻ തമിഴ്നാട്ടിൽ നിന്നുള്ള നാഞ്ചിനാട്ട് പിള്ളമാർ (വെള്ളാളർ) കേരളത്തിലേക്ക് കുടിയേറി വന്നതോടുകൂടി, അവരുടെ പരദേവതകളായ മുത്താരമ്മ, ഉജ്ജയിനി കാളി, മാരിയമ്മ, കിണ്ടിമഹാകാളി, മാടസ്വാമി, ഭൈരവൻ, വെള്ളാരമ്മ തുടങ്ങിയ ദേവന്മാരുടെ പ്രതിഷ്ഠയും കേരളത്തിൽ വ്യാപിച്ചു.

അമ്മൻ കൊട മഹോത്സവം: വൃശ്ചിക മാസത്തിലെ തിരുവോണം നക്ഷത്രത്തിൽ ഉത്സവം സമാപിക്കുന്ന രീതിയിൽ പ്രതിഷ്ഠാ വാർഷികം ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നു. കേരളത്തിന്റെ വിവിധ ഭാഗങ്ങളിൽ നിന്നുള്ള (പ്രത്യേകിച്ച് തെക്കൻ തിരുവിതാംകൂർ) ഭക്തർ ഉത്സവ സമയത്ത് ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ എത്തിച്ചേരുന്നു. സാധാരണയായി അഞ്ചു ദിവസങ്ങളോളം നടക്കുന്ന ഈ ഉത്സവം, നാഗ ദൈവങ്ങൾക്ക് കളമെഴുത്തും പാട്ടും കൊണ്ട് ആരംഭിക്കുന്നു. തുടർന്ന്, ശാസ്ത്രം പാട്ട്, ഗന്ധർവ്വൻ പാട്ട്, വില്ലു പാട്ട് എന്നിവയും ആചാരങ്ങളോടുകൂടി തിരുവോണം നക്ഷത്രത്തിൽ കലശത്തോടു കൂടി സമാപിക്കുന്നു. എല്ലാ മലയാള മാസങ്ങളിലും ആദ്യത്തെ ചൊവ്വാഴ്ച ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ പൂജ നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു.
