Sree Lakshmi Narasimha Temple, also known as the Anantha Narayana Puram Temple, is frequently referred to as the New Tirumala Temple and is located in Alapuzha at Anantha Narayana Puram.
The principal deity worshipped at this site is Sree Narasimha Murthy, depicted in the Ugra form. Within the srikovil, the simhasan features Venkatachalapathy, flanked by Lakshmi Devi and Bhoomi Devi at the uppermost level. On the subsequent tier resides Sree Narasimha Murthy, accompanied by Mahalakshmi seated on his left lap.
The Utsav deities are positioned on the following step, while the idols of Hanuman, Garuda, and Ganapati are collectively installed on a platform within the srikovil. The idols of Venkatachalapathy, Lakshmi Devi, and Narasimha Murthi were relocated from the Agrasala of the old temple and installed in the new temple in 1852 A.D. by Srimad Bhuvanendra Tirtha Swamiji of Kashi Math. However, merely ten months after the installation, the Venkatachalapathy idol was surreptitiously returned to Cochin during the night of February 7, 1853.
It was discreetly removed from the Alleppey Ananthanarayana Puram Temple, concealed in a basket covered with Naivedyam (Mooleepu), and transported back to Kochi by a country boat, passing through Aroor and into the Cochin State. The residents of Alleppey were unaware of this event until the following morning, by which time the idol had already crossed the boundary of the Travancore State, leaving them powerless to intervene. The original idols of Lakshmi Devi and Narasimha Murthi from Thuravoor remain at the temple. In 1933 A.D., a new idol of Venkatachalapathy was installed in this temple by Srimad Varadendra Tirtha.
Initially, there were only two principal festivals held annually, each lasting for eight days. The first took place in the month of Vrischikam (December), with the Arattu day aligning with the Chithra star. It was observed that Lord Lakshmi-Narasimha was dissatisfied with this arrangement. Consequently, a third festival was introduced in 1088 M.E. (A.D. 1913), coinciding with Narasimha Jayanthi on the Shuklapaksha Chathurdasi day in the month of Vaishaka (Medam). As a result, three festivals are now celebrated each year.
ശ്രീ ലക്ഷ്മി നരസിംഹ ക്ഷേത്രം
ആലപ്പുഴ ജനറൽ ഹോസ്പിറ്റൽ ജംഗ്ഷനിൽ നിന്ന് ഏകദേശം അര കിലോമീറ്റർ അകലെ അനന്ത നാരായണപുരം എന്ന സ്ഥലത്താണ് പുതിയ തിരുമല ക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നത്. ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം എ ഡി 1852-ൽ സ്ഥാപിതമായതാണ്. ഇപ്പോൾ പ്രധാന പ്രതിഷ്ഠയായ ഉഗ്രരൂപത്തിലുള്ള ശ്രീ നരസിംഹമൂർത്തി ഇവിടെ ഉണ്ട്. ശ്രീകോവിലിന്റെ സിംഹാസനത്തിൽ വെങ്കിടാചലപതി, ലക്ഷ്മി ദേവി, ഭൂമി ദേവി എന്നിവ ഭഗവാന്റെ ഇരുവശത്തും മുകളിലുമുണ്ട്. അടുത്ത പടിയിൽ, ഇടത് മടിയിൽ മഹാലക്ഷ്മി സഹിതമുള്ള ശ്രീ നരസിംഹമൂർത്തി പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.
ഹനുമാൻ, ഗരുഡൻ, ഗണപതി വിഗ്രഹങ്ങൾ മറ്റ് ഗൗഡസാരസ്വത ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ നിന്ന് വ്യത്യസ്തമായി ശ്രീകോവിലിനുള്ളിൽ ഒരു പീഠത്തിൽ സ്ഥാപിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. കൊച്ചിയിലെ പോർച്ചുഗീസ് പീഡനകാലത്ത്, കൊച്ചിൻ ഗോശ്രീപുരം ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ ലക്ഷ്മി ദേവിയുടെയും തുറവൂർ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ നരസിംഹമൂർത്തിയുടെയും വിഗ്രഹങ്ങൾക്കൊപ്പം വെങ്കിടേശ്വര വിഗ്രഹം ആലപ്പുഴ വെങ്കടാചലപതി ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലേക്ക് (പഴയ തിരുമല ക്ഷേത്രം) മാറ്റി 60 വർഷത്തിലേറെയായി വടക്കൻ അഗ്രശാലയിൽ സൂക്ഷിച്ചു. ഈ ദൈവിക വിഗ്രഹത്തിന്റെ സാന്നിധ്യം ആലപ്പുഴയുടെ വ്യാപാര-വാണിജ്യ രംഗങ്ങളിൽ പുരോഗതി ഉണ്ടാക്കുകയും, ആലപ്പുഴ ഒരു പ്രധാന കടൽ തുറമുഖമായി മാറുകയും ചെയ്തു.
ഭരണമാറ്റത്തിന്റെ പശ്ചാത്തലത്തിൽ, കൊച്ചിയിലെ പുതിയ രാജാവ് വിഗ്രഹത്തിന്റെ പ്രാധാന്യം തിരിച്ചറിഞ്ഞ് അത് തിരികെ ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ടു. ആലപ്പുഴ നഗരത്തിന്റെ പുരോഗതി വിഗ്രഹത്തിന്റെ സാന്നിധ്യത്തിലൂടെ കണ്ടപ്പോൾ, തിരുവിതാംകൂർ മഹാരാജാവ് അഭ്യർത്ഥന നിരസിക്കുകയും വെങ്കിടാചലപതി വിഗ്രഹത്തിന്റെ സുരക്ഷയും സംരക്ഷണവും ഉറപ്പാക്കാൻ ആവശ്യമായ നടപടികൾ സ്വീകരിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. ഈ വിഗ്രഹം ഒരു പുതിയ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ സ്ഥാപിക്കണമെന്ന് അദ്ദേഹം ആഗ്രഹിച്ചു, തുടർന്ന് ദീവാൻ കൃഷ്ണറാവു സ്ഥലമെടുക്കുകയും പുതിയ ക്ഷേത്രം പണിയാൻ ആവശ്യമായ തടിയും പണവും നൽകുകയും ചെയ്തു.
അതനുസരിച്ച് പഴയ തിരുമല ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന് ഏകദേശം 1 കിലോമീറ്റർ തെക്ക് മാറി പുതിയ ക്ഷേത്രം നിർമ്മിക്കപ്പെട്ടു. ഈ പുതിയ ക്ഷേത്രപരിസരത്തിന് മഹാരാജാവ് അനന്തനാരായണപുരം എന്ന പേരും നൽകി. വെങ്കിടാചലപതി, ലക്ഷ്മി ദേവി, നരസിംഹമൂർത്തി എന്നിവരുടെ വിഗ്രഹങ്ങൾ 1852-ൽ കാശിമഠത്തിലെ ശ്രീമദ് ഭുവനേന്ദ്ര തീർത്ഥ സ്വാമിജി പുതിയ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചു. ഈ വിഗ്രഹങ്ങളുടെ പ്രതിഷ്ഠ കഴിഞ്ഞ് പത്ത് മാസത്തിനുള്ളിൽ, 1853 ഫെബ്രുവരി 7-ന്, വെങ്കിടാചലപതി വിഗ്രഹം രഹസ്യമായി കൊച്ചിയിലേക്ക് കൊണ്ടുപോയി.
ആലപ്പുഴ അനന്തനാരായണപുരം ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ നിന്നുള്ള നൈവേദ്യം പൊതിഞ്ഞ കൊട്ടയിൽ (മൂലീപ്പ്) കൊണ്ടുപോയി. അരൂർ വഴി നാടൻ ബോട്ടിൽ കൊച്ചിയിലേക്ക് എത്തി, പിന്നീട് കൊച്ചി സംസ്ഥാനം കടന്നുപോയി. തിരുവിതാംകൂർ സംസ്ഥാന അതിർത്തി കടന്നതിനാൽ, ആലപ്പുഴക്കാർ ഈ സംഭവത്തെ പിറ്റേന്ന് രാവിലെ മാത്രമാണ് അറിഞ്ഞത്. ലക്ഷ്മി ദേവിയുടെയും തുറവൂരിലെ നരസിംഹമൂർത്തിയുടെയും മൂല വിഗ്രഹം ഇപ്പോഴും ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ നിലനിൽക്കുന്നു.
