Mekkad Sree Bhagavathy Temple, a historic site dedicated to Bhagavathy, is situated on the banks of the Manimalayar River in Kainakari, Alappuzha district.
It is located in Kainkari South within the Kuttanad region and is managed by the Travancore Devaswom Board. The Mekkattu Sree Bhagavathy Temple, located in Kainkari South, Kuttanad, and owned by the Travancore Devaswom Board, has faced significant challenges due to floods in 2018 and 2019, which caused extensive damage to many temples in Kuttanad, including Mekkattu.
To preserve its sanctity and structural integrity, the EDSS company, based in Kochi, used advanced technology to raise the temple by one meter, transplanting it to a concrete foundation supported by iron pipes while maintaining its unique features. This restoration allowed daily pujas to resume, with the idol temporarily placed in the Balalayam. The temple celebrates several important festivals throughout the year, including Thiruvonam in Chigam, Vinayaka Chaturthi, Ashtamirohini, Poojavayppu in Kanni, Vidyarambam, Ayilyampuja in Vrischikam, Mandalakaalam from the 1st of Vrischikam, Panthrand Vilakku, Karthika Vilakku, Thiruvathira in Dhanu, Makaravilakku Mahotsava in Makaram, Makarachovva, Pongal in Kumbham, Vishukani in Medam, Saptham, and Ramayana masacharanam in Karkidakam.
