Poochakkal is located on a small island near Vembanad Lake in Alappuzha district, encompassing the panchayats of Arukutty, Panavalli, Thaikattussery, and Pallipuram. It is home to the famous Nagari Sridharma Shasta Temple.
This temple is dedicated to Sri Dharmashasta, with its annual festival celebrated on Vishu day. It showcases the exquisite architectural style of Kerala, featuring elements such as Chuttambalam, Namaskara Mandapam, Chathura Sree Kovil, and Kodimaram. The temple conducts all rituals typical of Shasta temples in Kerala with great grandeur. During the Mandala period, it sees an extraordinary influx of devotees from across the nation seeking the blessings of Shasta.
On Saturdays, the offering of sesame lamps holds particular significance. Ayyappa temples in Kerala are renowned for their adherence to various traditional pujas and rituals. The festival includes events such as Ezhunnallath, Melam, Abhishekam, and Shiveli. The early morning Vishukani darshan on Medam 1 draws hundreds of devotees, and numerous important rituals and pujas are performed, including Mandala Makaravilakku, Kalamezhuthu, and Aazhipooja.
നഗരി ശ്രീ ധർമ്മ ശാസ്താ ക്ഷേത്രം
ആലപ്പുഴ ജില്ലയിലെ വേമ്പനാട് കായലിനോട് ചേർന്ന അരൂക്കുറ്റി, പാണാവള്ളി, തൈക്കാട്ടുശ്ശേരി, പള്ളിപ്പുറം പഞ്ചായത്തുകൾ ഉൾക്കൊള്ളുന്ന ഒരു ചെറിയ ദ്വീപിന്റെ ഭാഗമാണ് പൂച്ചാക്കൽ. ഇവിടെ പ്രശസ്തമായ ശ്രീധർമ്മശാസ്താ ക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു, ഇത് ശ്രീ ധർമ്മശാസ്താവിനായി സമർപ്പിച്ചിട്ടുള്ളതാണ്. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ വാർഷിക ഉത്സവം വിഷു ദിനത്തിൽ (ഏപ്രിൽ 14 മുതൽ 15 വരെ) ആഘോഷിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. ചുറ്റമ്പലം, നമസ്കാര മണ്ഡപം, ചതുര ശ്രീകോവിൽ, കൊടിമരം എന്നിവയുള്ള മനോഹരമായ കേരളീയ വാസ്തുശിൽപത്തിന്റെ ആകർഷണത്തോടെ നിർമ്മിതമാണ് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം. കേരളത്തിലെ ശാസ്താ ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ ആചരിക്കപ്പെടുന്ന എല്ലാ വിശേഷങ്ങളും ഇവിടെ ഗംഭീരമായി ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നു.
മണ്ഡലക്കാലത്ത് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ അഭൂതപൂർവ്വമായ തിരക്കാണ് അനുഭവപ്പെടുന്നത്, നാടിന്റെ വിവിധ ഭാഗങ്ങളിൽ നിന്നുള്ള ധാരാളം ഭക്തർ ഇവിടെ എത്തുന്നു.എള്ള് തിരി വിളക്ക് ശനിയാഴ്ചകളിൽ പ്രധാനപ്പെട്ട ഒരു വഴിപാടാണ്. കേരളത്തിലെ അയ്യപ്പക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ നടപ്പിലാക്കുന്ന വിവിധ പരമ്പരാഗത പൂജകളും ആചാരങ്ങളും ഇതിന്റെ പേരിൽ പ്രശസ്തമാണ്. എഴുന്നള്ളത്ത്, മേളം, അഭിഷേകം, ശീവേലി എന്നിവ ഉത്സവത്തിന്റെ ഭാഗങ്ങളാണ്. മേടം ഒന്നിന് അതിരാവിലെ വിഷുക്കണി ദർശനം നൂറുകണക്കിന് ഭക്തരെ ആകർഷിക്കുന്നു. മണ്ഡല മകരവിളക്ക്, കളമെഴുത്ത്, ആഴിപൂജ എന്നിവ ഉൾപ്പെടെ നിരവധി പ്രധാന ആചാരങ്ങളും പൂജകളും ആചരിക്കുന്നു.
