Neelamperoor Palli Bhagavathi Temple boasts a history spanning 1,700 years. It is thought that the original structure was a Buddhist temple, which was subsequently transformed into a Hindu temple. This site is located in Kuttanadu, Alappuzha.
The primary deity worshipped at the temple is Goddess Durga. Adjacent to the main temple, there are distinct shrines dedicated to Lords Ganapathi, Siva, Dharmasastha, Mahavishnu, and Rakshas.
The annual celebration known as 'Poonam Padayani' occurs over a span of ten days during the months of August and September. A key highlight of this festival is the exhibition of the impressive 45-foot Sway.
Neelamperoor Patayani is a remarkable event celebrated at the Neelamperoor Palli Bhagavathy temple located in the Alappuzha district. While Patayani is observed in various temples throughout Kerala, the version at Neelamperoor stands out as unique. This event takes place in the Malayalam month of Chingam (August/September). The term Patayani translates to a "row of warriors," and the occasion is characterized by vibrant colors, deep devotion, and festive spirit. Enormous effigies of swans and other mythical figures are paraded through the streets, with the local term for the creation of these swan effigies being annamkettu.
നീലംപേരൂർ പള്ളി ഭഗവതി ക്ഷേത്രം
ആലപ്പുഴ ജില്ലയിലെ കുട്ടനാട്ടിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ഒരു ബുദ്ധക്ഷേത്രമാണ് ഇത്. കോട്ടയം-ചങ്ങനാശേരി മെയിൻ സെൻട്രൽ റോഡിൽ കുറിച്ചി ഔട്ട്പോസ്റ്റിൽ നിന്ന് ഏകദേശം 4.5 കിലോമീറ്റർ പടിഞ്ഞാറ് മാറിയാൽ ക്ഷേത്രം കാണാം. പ്രധാന ദേവത വനദുർഗ്ഗയാണ്. കുട്ടനാട്ടു താലൂക്കിലെ ഒരു പുരാതന ക്ഷേത്രമായ നീലംപേരൂർ പള്ളിഭഗവതി ക്ഷേത്രം ആദ്യകാലത്ത് ശിവക്ഷേത്രമായിരുന്നു. ബുദ്ധമതത്തിന്റെ പ്രചാരത്തിനായി പള്ളിബാണപ്പെരുമാൾ കുട്ടനാട്ടിലേക്ക് എത്തി ബുദ്ധവിഹാരമാക്കി. പിന്നീട്, ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം ഹൈന്ദവക്ഷേത്രമായി മാറ്റിയിരുന്നു.
നീലംപേരൂർ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന് 1700-ഓളം വർഷങ്ങളുടെ പഴക്കമുണ്ട്. കമുകിൽ ചാരി നിൽക്കുന്ന വനദുർഗ്ഗയുടെ രൂപത്തിൽ ദേവിയുടെ പ്രതിഷ്ഠയാണ്. കൂടാതെ, തെക്കുകിഴക്കു മൂലയിൽ നാഗരാജാവും, ശ്രീകോവിലിനു പുറത്ത് ഗണപതി, ശിവൻ, ധർമ്മശാസ്താവ്, മഹാവിഷ്ണു, രക്ഷസ്സ് എന്നിവയും ഉണ്ട്. കൊല്ലപ്പള്ളീമഠത്തിലെ നമ്പൂതിരിമാരുടെ ശാന്തി ഇവിടെ നിലനിൽക്കുന്നു. ദിവസവും രണ്ട് തവണ പൂജകൾ നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു. പ്രത്യേക ദിവസങ്ങളിൽ പ്രത്യേക പൂജകളും ഇവിടെ നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നുണ്ട്.
ഇതുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട ഒരു കഥ പ്രചാരത്തിലുണ്ട്, അതായത് തിരുവിതാംകൂർ മഹാരാജാവിന്റെ പേരിൽ ദിവസവും ആദ്യത്തെ പൂജയുടെ വഴിപാടായി കഴിച്ചിരുന്നുവെന്നും, രാജഭരണം അവസാനിച്ചതോടെ ആ പതിവ് നിലനിന്നു എന്നുമാണ് പറയപ്പെടുന്നത്. മറ്റ് ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ നിന്നു വ്യത്യസ്തമായി, കരിക്കിൻ വെള്ളത്തിൽ കൂട്ടുപായസമാണ് പ്രധാന വഴിപാട്. വർഷത്തിൽ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ രണ്ട് പ്രധാന ആഘോഷങ്ങൾ നടക്കുന്നു. മീനമാസത്തിലെ പൂരം നാളിൽ ഒമ്പതാം ഉൽസവമായ പള്ളിവേട്ട, 10 ദിവസത്തെ കൊടിയേറിയ ഉത്സവമായി നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു. ചിങ്ങമാസത്തിലെ തിരുവോണം കഴിഞ്ഞ് നടക്കുന്ന പൂരം നാളിൽ, പതിനാറ് ദിവസം നീണ്ടുനിൽക്കുന്ന അതിഗംഭീരമായ നീലംപേരൂർ പൂരം പടയണിയുമാണ്.
