Odampally Devi Temple is a renowned shrine dedicated to the goddess in Kerala. It is believed that this temple has a history spanning over 400 years.
Long before the current location of the temple was established, it was enveloped in a dense forest, revered by numerous devout saints. It is said that a spiritual energy (Chaithanyam) thrived in this area. The temple is dedicated to the deity Bhadrakali, and the divine essence present here is believed to be Swayambhoo, or self-manifested.
The Thiruvutsavam festival is observed during the month of Kumbham, which corresponds to February-March, lasting for six days. Unlike the customary flag hoisting (Kodiyettam) seen in other temples, this temple initiates the festival with the Therettu ceremony. Throughout these days, various traditional rituals are performed. The shrine is adorned with plantain, coconut leaves, flowers, and traditional lamps. Special poojas are conducted, and offerings are made during the festival. A significant aspect of the celebration is Annadanam, the practice of serving food to devotees.
The festival also features traditional performing arts, music, and dance. Key highlights include caparisoned elephants, melam, fireworks, sheevali, Garudan Thookam, and Guruzi. During Garudan Thookam, participants don eagle costumes and perform dances, culminating in a spiritual ritual where they suspend themselves from a shaft attached to their backs. This ritual commences at midnight and continues until dawn.

ആലപ്പുഴ ജില്ലയിൽ ചേർത്തലയിലെ പാണാവള്ളിയിൽ നിന്ന് 2 കിലോമീറ്റർ, ചേർത്തല റെയിൽവേ സ്റ്റേഷനിൽ നിന്ന് 18.5 കിലോമീറ്റർ അകലെയായി സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന പുരാതന ഭദ്രകാളി ക്ഷേത്രമാണ് ഓടമ്പള്ളി ദേവീ ക്ഷേത്രം. കേരളത്തിലെ പ്രശസ്തമായ ദേവീ ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നായി ഓടമ്പള്ളി ദേവീ ക്ഷേത്രം അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന് 400 വർഷത്തിലേറെ പഴക്കമുണ്ടെന്ന് വിശ്വസിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. ഇപ്പോഴത്തെ ക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്ന പ്രദേശം നൂറ്റാണ്ടുകൾക്കുമുമ്പ് കൊടും കാടായിരുന്നുവെന്നും, ഇവിടെ നിരവധി സന്യാസിമാരുടെ സാന്നിധ്യം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നുവെന്നും പറയപ്പെടുന്നു.
അവരുടെ അനുഗ്രഹങ്ങൾ മൂലമുണ്ടായ ചൈതന്യം പിന്നീട് ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ രൂപീകരണത്തിലേക്ക് നയിച്ചതായി പഴമൊഴികൾ സൂചിപ്പിക്കുന്നു. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന പ്രതിഷ്ഠ ഭദ്രകാളിയാണ്, ഇവിടെയുള്ള ദിവ്യ സാന്നിധ്യം സ്വയംഭൂ ആണെന്ന് വിശ്വസിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. കുംഭമാസത്തിൽ (ഫെബ്രുവരി-മാർച്ച്) ആണ്ടുതോറും ആഘോഷിക്കുന്ന തിരുവുത്സവം 6 ദിവസങ്ങളോളം നീണ്ടുനിൽക്കുന്നു. മറ്റ് ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിലെ ഉത്സവങ്ങളേക്കാൾ വ്യത്യസ്തമാണ് ഇത്. ഇവിടെ കൊടിയേറ്റം നടത്തുന്നതിന് പകരം, ഉത്സവത്തിന്റെ തുടക്കം കുറിക്കാൻ തേട്ടു ചടങ്ങാണ് നടത്തുന്നത്. ഈ ദിവസങ്ങളിൽ നിരവധി ആചാരങ്ങൾ ആചരിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. ഉത്സവസമയം ക്ഷേത്രം വാഴക്കുല, തെങ്ങിൻ കുരുത്തോലകൾ, പൂക്കൾ, ഇലകൾ, പരമ്പരാഗത നില വിളക്കുകൾ എന്നിവ കൊണ്ട് അലങ്കരിക്കുന്നു.
ഉത്സവത്തോടനുബന്ധിച്ച് പ്രത്യേക പൂജകളും വഴിപാടുകളും നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു.
ഭക്തർക്ക് അന്നദാനം ഉത്സവത്തിന്റെ പ്രധാന ഭാഗമാണ്. കലാപരിപാടികൾ, സംഗീതം, നൃത്തം എന്നിവ ഉത്സവാഘോഷത്തിന്റെ ഭാഗമായി നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു. ആനകൾ, മേളം, വെടിക്കെട്ട്, ശീവേലി, ഗുരുതി, ഗരുഡൻ തൂക്കം എന്നിവയാണ് ഈ സ്ഥലത്തെ പ്രധാന ചടങ്ങുകൾ.
