Padayanivettom Devi temple is situated in Vallikunnam, within the Mavelikkara taluk of the Alappuzha district. It is dedicated to Sri Durga and Sri Bhadra Bhagavathi.
Vallikunnam Padayanivettam Devi Temple, with a history spanning over a thousand years, is a revered shrine where ancient rituals like Padayani, Thottampattu, and Kalamezhuthumpattum are still performed. The temple is sanctified by the divine presence of Sri Durga and Sri Bhadra Bhagavathi, whose blessings have transformed the lives of countless devotees.
This temple is unique as it enshrines two goddesses as its main deities, Sridurga and Sribhadra, both manifestations of Parasakti, the ultimate form of Omkara. Devotees offer equal reverence to these deities, reflecting their shared significance. In addition to the principal deities, Balaganapati and Yakshiyamma are enshrined within the temple, while the outer precincts house deities such as Nagaraja, Nagayakshi, Yogishwaran, Ghandakarna, Madan, Rakshas, Marutha, Murthy, and Yakshi. A Shiva temple is also located to the north of the main premises.
Tuesdays and Fridays hold special significance, and the unique ritual of raising the deities outside the shrine is a rare practice that underscores their equal prominence.The temple's management is overseen by representatives from seven regions of Vallikunnam. Devotees believe the blessings of Padayanivettamma help overcome the trials of Kali Yuga and lead to a prosperous life.

വള്ളികുന്നം പടയണിവെട്ടം ഒരു ആയിരത്തിലധികം വർഷം പഴക്കമുള്ള പുരാതന ക്ഷേത്രമാണ്. ആദ്യകാലങ്ങളിൽ, ഗ്രാമീണർ കളരിദേവനെ ആരാധിക്കുന്നത് സാധാരണമായിരുന്നു. കളരിദേവന്റെ അനുഗ്രഹം നേടാൻ പടയണി, തോറ്റംപാട്ട്, കളമെഴുത്ത് പാട്ട് തുടങ്ങിയ ആരാധനകൾ നടത്തുന്നത് പതിവായിരുന്നു. ഒരിക്കൽ, പടയണിയുടെ വെളിച്ചത്തിൽ ഒരു കൂട്ടം ആളുകൾ രണ്ട് ദിവ്യ സ്ത്രീകളെ കണ്ടു. ഈ സംഭവത്തെക്കുറിച്ച് ജനങ്ങൾക്കിടയിൽ സംസാരങ്ങൾ ഉണ്ടായി. സംഭവത്തിന്റെ യാഥാർത്ഥ്യം കണ്ടെത്താൻ ദേവപ്രശ്നത്തിന് ജനങ്ങൾ തീരുമാനിച്ചു.

രണ്ട് ദേവതകൾ പ്രധാന ദേവതകളായി സ്ഥാനം പിടിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന ചില മഹാക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നാണ് ഇത്. ഓംകാരത്തിന്റെ രൂപമായ പരാശക്തിയുടെ രണ്ട് രൂപങ്ങളാണ് ശ്രീദുർഗ്ഗയും ശ്രീഭദ്രയും. അതിനാൽ ഭക്തർ ഈ രണ്ട് ദേവതകളെയും സമാന പ്രാധാന്യത്തോടെ ആരാധിക്കുന്നു. പ്രധാന പ്രതിഷ്ഠകളുടെ കൂടാതെ, ബാലഗണപതി, യക്ഷിയമ്മ എന്നിവയും ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു. ചുറ്റമ്പലത്തിന് പുറത്ത് നാഗരാജാവ്, നാഗയക്ഷി, യോഗീശ്വരൻ, ഘണ്ടാകർണ്ണൻ, മദൻ, രക്ഷസ്, മറുത, മൂർത്തി, യക്ഷി എന്നീ ദേവതകൾ കാണപ്പെടുന്നു. ചുറ്റമ്പലത്തിന്റെ വടക്കുഭാഗത്ത് ഒരു ശിവക്ഷേത്രവും സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു.
ചൊവ്വ, വെള്ളി ദിവസങ്ങളിൽ ക്ഷേത്രദർശനം നടത്തുന്നത് വളരെ പ്രത്യേകമായതാണ്. ശ്രീ ദുർഗ്ഗയും ഭദ്രയും സമാന പ്രാധാന്യമുള്ളതിനാൽ, പ്രത്യേക ‘ജീവിത’ത്തിൽ ദേവതകളെ ശ്രീകോവിലിന് പുറത്ത് എഴുന്നള്ളിക്കുന്നു. ഇത്തരമൊരു ആചാരമുള്ള ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങൾ വളരെ കുറവാണ്.മേടത്തിൽ ഉത്സവം നടക്കുന്നു. പത്തുദിവസം നീണ്ടുനിൽക്കുന്ന ഈ ഉത്സവം മേടം ഒന്നിന് ആറാട്ടോടെ സമാപിക്കും. കെട്ടുകാഴ്ച അത്യന്തം ഗംഭീരമായി ഒരുക്കിയിരിക്കുന്നു. വള്ളികുന്നം പരിയാരത്തുകുളങ്ങര ദേവിയും പടയണിവട്ടം ദേവിയും സഹോദരിമാരാണെന്ന് വിശ്വസിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു.
