Puthiyidam Sree Krishna Temple is situated in close proximity to Kayamkulam, within the Alappuzha district of Kerala. The principal deity revered at this temple is Lord Krishna.
The deity is oriented towards the west, whereas it is traditionally believed that the original darshan was directed towards the east. The temple features a circular sanctum sanctorum, known as vatta sreekovil. The Upa Devatas honored within the temple include two Ganapathys, Shiva Ayyappa, Murugan, and Nagarajavu.
The annual festival spans ten days, commencing on Rohini Nakshatra in the Medam month (April – May) with the ritual of kodiyettam, and concludes with Arattu. Some scholars suggest that the temple was associated with the Kayamkulam king. The temple is referenced in the Unni Neeli Sandesham. The principal festival occurs during Ashtami Rohini and Sivarathri, while Mandala Chirappu and the months dedicated to the Ramayana are also observed.

പുതിയിടം ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണസ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രം കായംകുളം രാജാവിന്റെ പണികഴിപ്പിച്ച പ്രധാന ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണ ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നാണ്. ഉണ്ണിനീലി സന്ദേശത്തിൽ ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തെക്കുറിച്ച് സൂചിപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. തിരുവിതാംകൂർ ദേവസ്വം ബോർഡിന്റെ കീഴിലാണ് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്നത്. കായംകുളം പട്ടണത്തിന്റെ പടിഞ്ഞാറ് ഭാഗത്ത് സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു. രാജഭരണകാലത്ത് നിലനിന്നിരുന്ന കായംകുളത്തിലെ ഏറ്റവും പഴക്കമുള്ള ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നായാണ് ഇത് അറിയപ്പെടുന്നത്.
ശ്രീകോവിൽ വൃത്താകൃതിയിലാണ്, പ്രധാന പ്രതിഷ്ഠയായ ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണൻ ചതുർ ബാഹുക്കളോടുകൂടിയാണ്. ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണനും 'പഞ്ചലോഹം' ഉപയോഗിച്ച് നിർമ്മിച്ച 'ശ്രീചക്ര'ത്തിനും ദിവസേന പ്രാർത്ഥനകളും വഴിപാടുകളും നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ മറ്റ് പ്രതിഷ്ഠകൾ ആയി ശിവൻ, ഗണപതി, നാഗരാജാവ്, ബ്രഹ്മരക്ഷസ്, അയ്യപ്പൻ, വള്ളി-ദേവയാനി സഹിതമുള്ള സുബ്രഹ്മണ്യൻ എന്നിവയെ ഉൾപ്പെടുത്തുന്നു.
ചെമ്പിൽ നിർമ്മിച്ച വട്ട ശ്രീകോവിൽ, നമസ്കാര മണ്ഡപം, ബലിക്കൽപുര, ആനക്കോട്ടിൽ, ഊട്ടുപുര, ഭജന മാടം എന്നിവയാണ് ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ പ്രത്യേകതകൾ. പ്രധാന ഉത്സവങ്ങൾ അഷ്ടമി രോഹിണി, ശിവരാത്രി എന്നിവയോടൊപ്പം, മണ്ഡല ചിറപ്പ്, രാമായണ മാസങ്ങൾ എന്നിവയും ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നു. 'ഉണ്ണിനീലി സന്ദേശ'ത്തിൽ ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തെക്കുറിച്ച് പരാമർശം ഉണ്ട്. താന്ത്രികാവകാശം പുറപ്പെരില്ലത്തിനാണ്. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിനടുത്താണ് കൃഷ്ണപുരം കൊട്ടാരം സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്നത്, ഈ സ്ഥലം അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ വാസ്തുവിദ്യാ സൗന്ദര്യത്തിന് പ്രശസ്തമാണ്.
