Sreekirathan Kavu Shiva Temple is located in Vazhuvadi in Thazhakkara Panchayat in Mavelikara at Alappuzha District.
This temple is situated along the banks of Achan Kovilar. The idol features a churika (sword) raised in the right hand and a shield in the left hand. In front of the mandapam, there is a shrine dedicated to Nandi.
Here, Shiva is revered in the Vettakorumakan or Kirathamurthi form. The Balitarpanam conducted at Achankovilar, which is located near the temple, holds particular significance. Numerous devotees from across the nation visit this site to perform Balitarpanam.
ശ്രീ കിരാതൻകാവ് ശിവക്ഷേത്രം, തഴക്കര
ആലപ്പുഴ ജില്ലയിലെ മാവേലിക്കര താലൂക്കിലെ തഴക്കര പഞ്ചായത്തിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ശ്രീകിരാതൻ കാവ് ശിവക്ഷേത്രം, അച്ചൻ കോവിലാറിന്റെ തീരത്താണ്. മാവേലിക്കര ചെങ്ങന്നൂർ പാതയിൽ കരയംവട്ടം കവലയിൽ നിന്നും നേരെ പോകുമ്പോൾ, വഴുവാടി കവലവഴി മുന്നോട്ട് പോകുമ്പോൾ, ഇടത്തുവശത്ത് ക്ഷേത്ര കമാനം കാണാം. അവിടെ നിന്നും 500 മീറ്റർ മുന്നോട്ട് പോയാൽ, ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെത്താൻ സാധിക്കും.
തെക്കൻ കേരളത്തിലും തമിഴ്നാട്ടിലും വ്യാപകമായി കാണുന്ന കോവിൽ സമ്പ്രദായം, ക്ഷേത്ര നിർമ്മിതിയിൽ പ്രതിഫലിക്കുന്നു. കിരാതൻ കാവിൽ കിരാതരൂപം ഉണ്ട്. വലതുകയ്യിൽ മുകളിലേക്ക് പിടിച്ചരീതിയിൽ ചുരികയും (വാൾ) ഇടതുകയ്യിൽ കുത്തിപ്പിടിച്ചരീതിയിൽ പരിചയും എന്നതാണ് വിഗ്രഹത്തിന്റെ സമ്പ്രദായം. ക്ഷേത്രത്തോട് ചേർന്നുള്ള അച്ചൻകോവിലാറിൽ നടത്തിവരുന്ന ബലിതർപ്പണം വിശേഷമാണ്. ഇവിടെ ബലിതർപ്പണം നടത്തുവാൻ നാടിൻറെ നാനാഭാഗത്തുനിന്നും അനേകം ഭക്തർ എത്തിച്ചേരുന്നു.
