Thiruvilanjal Devi Temple is situated in Thamllakal, close to Karuvatta, within the Alappuzha district of Kerala.
The principal deity revered in the temple is Durga, specifically in her form as Vana Durga. The murti that is worshipped here is swayambhu. Notably, the sreekovil lacks a roof. The darshanam of Thiruvilanjal Devi is oriented towards the east. The Upa Devatas honored in the temple include Ghantakarna and Sundara Yakshi.
The temple's annual festival spans ten days and culminates on the day of Karthika nakshatra in the month of Meenam with the arattu ceremony. Initially, the temple was known as Illanjiyal. The original location of the swayambhu murti is situated in a well, the opening of which is below ground level. Approximately every twelve years, the water in the well within the kavu is manually drained, allowing for the Bhagavathy to be brought out for a special utsavam.
Following the utsavam, the deity is returned to the kavu. The presence of Jala Durga is observed in the pond (Theertha Kulam) located on the northwest side of the temple, where daily puja is also conducted. A regular vazhipadu is performed for the deity in the temple, situated in front of the kavu. Additionally, there is a sump-like structure positioned before the deity within the temple, which is connected to the kavu. In front of the temple, a pond is available for devotees to purify themselves prior to entering. A distinctive Pongala offering is made to the Goddess at this location, which consists of cooking unakkalari (rice) along with Payar (whole moong), turmeric powder, ginger, whole pepper, and salt.
തിരുവിലഞ്ഞാൽ ദേവീ ക്ഷേത്രം
ആലപ്പുഴ ജില്ലയിലെ ആലപ്പുഴ-ഹരിപ്പാട് ദേശീയ പാതയിൽ കരുവാറ്റ സ്റ്റോപ്പിനടുത്തുള്ള പ്രശസ്തമായ ദേവീക്ഷേത്രമാണ് തിരുവിലഞ്ഞാൽ ദേവീ ക്ഷേത്രം. ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം ദുർഗ്ഗാദേവിക്കായി സമർപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നതും ദുർഗ്ഗാദേവിയെ വനദുർഗ്ഗയായും ആരാധിക്കുന്നതുമാണ്. ശ്രീകോവിലിന് മേല്ക്കൂര ഇല്ലാത്തതും കിഴക്കോട്ടുള്ള ദർശനവും ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന് പ്രത്യേകതകളാണ്. പഞ്ചപൂജകളുള്ള ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ വൈരമനക്കാണ് താന്ത്രിക അവകാശം. ഇവിടം മുമ്പ് കാവായിരുന്നുയും പണ്ടു ഇലഞ്ഞിയാൽ ക്ഷേത്രമെന്നായിരുന്നു അറിയപ്പെടിയത്, പിന്നീട് തിരുവിലഞ്ഞിയാൽ എന്നായി മാറി.
ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന വിഗ്രഹം സ്വയംഭൂ ശിലയായാണ് കണ്ടെടുത്തത് ഇത് നിലത്തു താഴെയുള്ള കിണറ്റിൽ നിന്നും കണ്ടെത്തിയതാണ്. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ വടക്കുപടിഞ്ഞാറ് തീർത്ഥക്കുളത്തിൽ ജലദുർഗ്ഗയുള്ളതിനാൽ തീർത്ഥകുളത്തിനും പൂജകൾ ഉണ്ട്. തീർത്ഥക്കുളം വറ്റിയ്ക്കാൻ ദേവിയുടെ ഹിതം ആരായും. ഈ സമയത്ത്, കുളത്തിനുള്ളിലെ ജലദുർഗ്ഗ വിഗ്രഹം മാറ്റും. ഉപദേവതകൾ ആയി ഘണ്ടാകർണ്ണനും സുന്ദരയക്ഷിയും ഉൾപ്പെടുന്നു.
വയറുവേദനയ്ക്ക് രുധിരക്കലം വഴിപാടായി നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു. കലയിൽ കൊണ്ടുവരുന്ന അരി ചോറാക്കി നേദിച്ചു കൊടുക്കുന്നതാണ് ഈ വഴിപാട്. ദേവിക്ക് പൊങ്കൽ നേദ്യവുമുണ്ട്, ഇഞ്ചി, കുരുമുളക്, ഉപ്പ്, മഞ്ഞൾപൊടി, പയർ, ഉണക്കലരി എന്നിവ ഉപയോഗിച്ച് ഉണ്ടാക്കുന്ന പ്രത്യേക നേദ്യമാണ് ഈ പൊങ്കൽ. വരമനത്തിലെ നാരായണൻ എന്ന രണ്ടാമൻ മൂകാംബികയിൽ എത്തി സന്താനദുഃഖത്തിന് ഭജിച്ചപ്പോൾ, ഇല്ലത്തിനടുത്ത് ദേവി സ്വയംഭൂവായി പ്രത്യക്ഷപ്പെട്ടുവെന്ന് ഐതിഹ്യം പറയുന്നു. ഇപ്പോൾ ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം തിരുവതാംകൂർ ദേവസം ബോർഡിന്റെ കീഴിലാണ്.
