Vadakumkara Devi Temple is a renowned temple, comparable to the Karthayani Temple located in Cherthala.
Cherthala’s Vadakkumkara Devi Temple is dedicated to Goddess Bhadrakali, with its consecration attributed to Vilvamangalam Swamiyar. Recently, this temple was the venue for Kerala's celebrated mega Thiruvathira festival.
The temple stands out for its expansive grounds, which include a large temple pool, an elephant enclosure, Chuttampalam, Namaskaramandapam, and Dhwajam (flagpole). Due to its proximity to the lake, many devotees visit the temple for the Vauvubali ritual. The flag hoisting festival is held in the Malayalam month of Meenam, while the Puram festival is marked by vibrant Padayanis, Thalapoli, and Tiripititham performances, making it truly special.
വടക്കുംകര ദേവീ ക്ഷേത്രം
ആലപ്പുഴ ജില്ലയിൽ ചേർത്തല കാർത്ത്യായനി ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ നിന്നും തിരുനെല്ലൂർ വഴി 6.6 കിലോമീറ്റർ സഞ്ചരിച്ചാൽ വടക്കുംകര ദേവീ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെത്താം. തവണക്കടവിനടുത്താണ് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നത്. ചേർത്തലയിലെ കാർത്ത്യായനി ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന് സമാനമായ മറ്റൊരു ക്ഷേത്രമാണ് വടക്കുംകര ദേവീ ക്ഷേത്രം, പ്രധാന പ്രതിഷ്ഠ ഭദ്രകാളിയാണ്. വില്വമംഗലം സ്വാമിയാരാണ് ഈ പ്രതിഷ്ഠ നടത്തിയത്.
അടുത്തകാലത്ത് കേരളത്തിൽ ആഘോഷിച്ച മെഗാതിരുവാതിരകളി ഈ ക്ഷേത്രമൈതാനത്തിൽ നടന്നിരുന്നു. മറ്റു ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളുമായി താരതമ്യപ്പെടുത്തുമ്പോൾ, വടക്കുംകര ദേവീ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ വിശാലമായ മൈതാനം, ക്ഷേത്രക്കുളം, ആനപ്പന്തൽ, ചുറ്റമ്പലം, നമസ്കാരമണ്ഡപം, ധ്വജം എന്നിവയാണ് പ്രത്യേകതകൾ. കായലിനോട് ചേർന്നിരിക്കുന്നതിനാൽ, കർക്കിടക വാവുബലിക്ക് നിരവധി ഭക്തർ ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ എത്തുന്നു. മീനമാസത്തിൽ കൊടിയേറ്റുത്സവം ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നു.
