Vethalan Kavu Mahadeva Temple, situated in Krishnapuram near Kayamkulam in Alappuzha district, is a unique and intimate shrine, small in size but abundant in devotion. Despite lacking grand structures like a gopuram, elephant pavilion, or dhwajasthambham, this temple draws countless devotees. Located approximately three kilometers east of the Ochira Parabrahma Temple, Vethalan Kavu is one of the rare temples where Lord Shiva is worshipped in the Vethala form. It’s accessible from Ochira via Kairali Junction along Choonad Road.
The annual Thiruvutsavam is celebrated on the last Friday of Makara month, along with Shivaratri, Vishu, and the Mandala season. Many devotees also gather here for the Karkidakavavu Balitharppanam rituals, making it a place of profound reverence.
വേതാളൻകാവ് മഹാദേവ ക്ഷേത്രം
ആലപ്പുഴ ജില്ലയിലെ കായംകുളത്തിനടുത്ത് കൃഷ്ണപുരത്ത് സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന വേതാളൻ കാവ് മഹാദേവ ക്ഷേത്രം ഒരു ചെറിയ ക്ഷേത്രമാണെങ്കിലും ഭക്തജനസാന്നിധ്യത്തിൽ സമ്പന്നമാണ്. വലിയ വലുപ്പമോ, ഗോപുരമോ, ആനക്കൊട്ടിലോ, ധ്വജസ്തംഭമോ ഇല്ലാത്ത ഈ കാവ്, ഓച്ചിറ പരബ്രഹ്മ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന് ഏകദേശം മൂന്ന് കിലോമീറ്റർ കിഴക്കായി സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു.
ശിവനെ വേതാളരൂപത്തിൽ ആരാധിക്കുന്ന അപൂർവ്വം ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നായ ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെത്താൻ ഓച്ചിറയിൽ നിന്നും ചൂനാട് റോഡിലൂടെ കൈരളി ജംഗ്ഷൻ വഴിയാണ് എത്തിച്ചേരാവുന്നത്. മകര മാസത്തിലെ അവസാനത്തെ വെള്ളിയാഴ്ച ആഘോഷിക്കുന്ന തിരുവുത്സവം ഇവിടെ പ്രധാന ഉത്സവദിനമാണ്, കൂടാതെ ശിവരാത്രി, വിഷു, മണ്ഡലകാലം തുടങ്ങിയവയും വിപുലമായി ആചരിക്കുന്നു. കർക്കിടക വാവുബലിക്ക് നിരവധി ഭക്തർ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ എത്തുന്നു.
