Aluva Sree Krishna Swamy Temple is an ancient shrine dedicated to Bhagavan Sri Krishna, located on the banks of the Periyar River in Ernakulam district, Kerala.
Aluva Sree Krishna Swamy Temple was constructed in 1938 on the orders of Amma Maharani, the mother of Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma. According to legend, while staying at Aluva Palace, she suffered from severe stomach pain and prayed to Bhagavan Sri Krishna for relief.
That night, Sri Krishna appeared in her dream and revealed the presence of a buried murti at Karukutty, 15 km from Aluva. Officials from the Travancore Palace visited the site and discovered the ruins of an old Sri Krishna temple, which had been destroyed by Tipu Sultan’s army. Two murtis were recovered – one of Balarama and the other of Bhagavan Sri Krishna.Following the Maharani’s wishes, a temple was built in 1938, and the murti of Balarama was installed facing east.
Sri Krishna murti was later consecrated in 1984. The temple, spread over one acre, features two sree kovils (sanctum sanctorums). The murti of Balarama, made from anjana shila (black granite), is in a standing posture, holding a plough in his right hand and a pestle in his left. Sri Krishna murti, also in a standing posture, holds a conch in his left hand and a whip in his right. The temple complex includes structures such as the kodimaram (flagpole), nadapandal, thidappally, balalayam, and balikal. The main upa devatas (sub-deities) worshipped here are Ganapathi, Brahmarakshas, and Nagas. The temple performs three daily pujas, with venna (butter) being the primary offering to Bhagavan Krishna, while aval (beaten rice) is offered to Balarama.
The temple’s annual festival takes place in the Malayalam month of Vrischikam (November–December) and is renowned for its traditional Vaishnava pujas and rituals. The festival features caparisoned elephants, melam (percussion performances), Kerala’s classical temple art forms, and grand processions, culminating in the arattu (sacred bath) ceremony.

എറണാകുളം ജില്ലയിലെ ആലുവയിൽ, പെരിയാർ നദിയുടെ തീരത്ത് സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ഭഗവാൻ ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണനെ ആരാധിക്കുന്ന ഒരു പുരാതന ക്ഷേത്രമാണ് ആലുവ ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണസ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രം. മലയാളം വൃശ്ചികമാസത്തിൽ (നവംബർ-ഡിസംബർ) നടക്കുന്ന വാർഷിക മഹോത്സവം ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ പ്രധാന ആകർഷണങ്ങളിലൊന്നാണ്.ചിത്തിര തിരുനാൾ ബലരാമവർമ്മയുടെ മാതാവായ അമ്മ മഹാറാണിയുടെ നിർദ്ദേശപ്രകാരം 1938-ൽ ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം നിർമ്മിച്ചു. ഒരിക്കൽ ആലുവ കൊട്ടാരത്തിൽ താമസിക്കുമ്പോൾ, കഠിനമായ വയറുവേദന അനുഭവപ്പെട്ട അമ്മ മഹാറാണി, രോഗശാന്തിക്കായി ഭഗവാൻ ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണനോട് പ്രാർത്ഥിച്ചു. അപ്പോൾ ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണഭഗവാൻ അവരുടെ സ്വപ്നത്തിൽ പ്രത്യക്ഷപ്പെട്ട്, ആലുവയിൽ നിന്ന് 15 കിലോമീറ്റർ അകലെയുള്ള കറുകുറ്റിയിൽ, കുഴിച്ചിട്ടിരുന്ന ഒരു ദിവ്യവിഗ്രഹത്തെക്കുറിച്ച് വെളിപ്പെടുത്തി.
തിരുവിതാംകൂർ കൊട്ടാരത്തിലെ ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥർ കറുകുറ്റിയിലെത്തി, അവിടെ ജീർണ്ണിച്ച ഒരു ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണക്ഷേത്രം കണ്ടെത്തുകയും ടിപ്പു സുൽത്താന്റെ സൈന്യം നശിപ്പിച്ച ആ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ നിന്ന് ശ്രീബലരാമന്റെയും ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണന്റെയും രണ്ടു വിഗ്രഹങ്ങൾ കണ്ടെത്തുകയും ചെയ്തു. മഹാറാണിയുടെ ആഗ്രഹപ്രകാരം, 1938-ൽ ഒരു ക്ഷേത്രം നിർമ്മിച്ച് ശ്രീബലരാമന്റെ വിഗ്രഹം കിഴക്കോട്ട് ദർശനത്തോടെ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചു. 1984-ൽ ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണവിഗ്രഹവും പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചു. ഏകദേശം ഒരു ഏക്കറിലായി സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ക്ഷേത്രസമുച്ചയത്തിൽ രണ്ട് ശ്രീകോവിലുകളുണ്ട്. ശ്രീബലരാമന്റെയും ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണന്റെയും വിഗ്രഹങ്ങൾ നിൽക്കുന്ന ഭാവത്തിലാണ്. അഞ്ജനശിലയിൽ നിർമ്മിച്ച ശ്രീബലരാമൻ, വലതുകൈയിൽ കലപ്പയും ഇടതുകൈയിൽ ഉലക്കയും പിടിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.
ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണവിഗ്രഹം പടിഞ്ഞാറോട്ട് ദർശനമുള്ളതും വലതു കൈയിൽ ചാട്ടയും ഇടതു കൈയിൽ ശംഖുമേന്തിയുമാണ്.
ക്ഷേത്രപ്രവേശനത്തിൽ കൊടിമരം, നടപ്പന്തൽ, തിടപ്പള്ളി, ബാലാലയം, ബലിക്കൽ തുടങ്ങിയ നിർമിതികൾ കാണാം. ഗണപതി, ബ്രഹ്മരക്ഷസ്, നാഗദേവതകൾ എന്നിവയാണ് ഉപദേവതകൾ.
ദിവസവും മൂന്നു പൂജകൾ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ നടത്തുന്നു. ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണനു പ്രധാന വഴിപാട് വെണ്ണയാണെങ്കിൽ, ശ്രീബലരാമനു അവൽ ആണ്.
വൈഷ്ണവ ആചാരങ്ങൾ പ്രകാരം ആഘോഷിക്കപ്പെടുന്ന ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ മഹോത്സവം അലങ്കരിച്ച ആനകളോടും തിരുവാതിര, പഞ്ചവാദ്യം, കുടമാട്ടം, ഘോഷയാത്ര എന്നിവയോടും കൂടി ഭക്തജനങ്ങൾക്ക് അദ്ഭുതകരമായ അനുഭവം സമ്മാനിക്കുന്നു. ആറാട്ട് ചടങ്ങോടെ ഉത്സവം സമാപിക്കുന്നു.
