Arakkal Sri Mahakali Temple is one of the significant temples in Nettoor, located just 1.5 km from the Thirunettoor Mahadeva Temple and 800 meters from the Thirunettoor Railway Station.
In Hindu mythology, Kali is revered as the Bhagavathi of destruction, while Bhadrakali is worshipped in both royal and sattvic forms, bestowing wealth and wisdom through her various manifestations.
On the seventh day of Navratri, Hindus venerate the Goddess as Kalarathri, whose vehicle is believed to be a donkey, symbolizing the plague. Th e temple becomes especially vibrant during Navratri, with special poojas, musical performances, and various cultural and artistic events enriching the festivities.
അറക്കൽ ശ്രീ മഹാകാളി ക്ഷേത്രം
തിരുനെട്ടൂർ മഹാദേവ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ നിന്ന് 1.5 കിലോമീറ്റർ അകലെയും, തിരുനെട്ടൂർ റെയിൽവേ സ്റ്റേഷനിൽ നിന്ന് 800 മീറ്റർ ദൂരത്തുമായി സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന നെട്ടൂരിലെ പ്രധാന ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിലൊന്നാണ് അറക്കൽ ശ്രീ മഹാകാളി ക്ഷേത്രം. ഇവിടെ മഹാകാളിയാണ് പ്രധാന ദേവത. ദുർഗതിശമനിയും ദുഖനാശിനിയുമായ ശ്രീ മഹാകാളിയെ ഹൈന്ദവർ ഭക്തിപൂർവ്വം ആരാധിക്കുന്നു.
നവരാത്രിയുടെ ഏഴാം ദിവസം ദേവിയെ കാലരാത്രി മാതാവായി വിശേഷിച്ചുനോക്കുന്നു. മഹാമാരിയുടെ പ്രതീകമായ കഴുതയാണ് കാലരാത്രിയുടെ വാഹനമെന്നാണ് വിശ്വാസം.
ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ ഏറ്റവും പ്രധാനപ്പെട്ട ഉത്സവം നവരാത്രിയിലാണ്. ഈ പുണ്യദിനങ്ങളിൽ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ വിശേഷാൽ പൂജകളും വാദ്യഘോഷങ്ങളും കലാ-സംഗീത-സാംസ്കാരിക പരിപാടികളും നടക്കുകയും, അതുവഴി ക്ഷേത്രമണ്ഡപം ചൈതന്യമയമാകുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു.
