1200-year-old Avanamcode Saraswathi Temple is located near the Kochi International Airport in Nedumbassery, Ernakulam district. It is believed to be one of the 108 Durga temples consecrated by Lord Parasurama.
The temple's presiding deity, Goddess Saraswathi, is considered self-manifested, with a partially visible rock as the Prathishta, while the rest remains underground. On regular days, the deity is adorned with a Silver Golakam, and on special occasions, a Golden Golakam is used. The temple also houses sub-deities, including Lord Shiva, Lord Ganapathi, and Simha Vahanam.
Avanamcode Saraswathi Temple is renowned for Vidyarambham, the sacred initiation into learning. Thousands of children visit the temple to receive the blessings of the Goddess of Knowledge, Saraswathi.
Unlike most Saraswathi temples, Vidyarambham is conducted here not only during Navaratri but throughout the year. It is believed that Jagadguru Adi Shankaracharya performed his Vidyarambham at this temple. Since his father passed away during his early years, he was raised in his mother’s Illam. Tradition states that Aryamba Devi brought young Shankara from Kalady to this temple for his Vidyarambham. Devotees believe that children with speech difficulties will start speaking fluently if they offer a bell, pen, and a model of a tongue to the goddess in her Kumaribhavam form.
Additionally, students struggling academically or those with weak Mercury placement in their horoscope are believed to improve their focus and succeed in exams after consuming Saraswathaghrutham following a special puja at the temple.
The temple is also associated with a divine sibling tradition, where Devi is believed to have six sisters and a brother, whose temples are located in Vengur, Manikyamangalam, Chengal, Etad, Ezhiparam, and Avanamcode. The deity at Nayathodu Sankaranarayana Temple is considered her brother.
ആവണംകോട് സരസ്വതി ക്ഷേത്രം
എറണാകുളം ജില്ലയിൽ ആലുവയിൽ നിന്ന് 9 കിലോമീറ്റർ അകലെ നെടുമ്പാശ്ശേരിക്ക് സമീപമുള്ള ആവണംകോടിലാണ് ഈ പുരാതന സരസ്വതി ക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നത്. കൊച്ചിൻ ദേവസ്വം ബോർഡിന്റെ കീഴിലുള്ള ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം വിദ്യാദാനത്തിനും, അക്ഷരാരാധനയ്ക്കും പ്രസിദ്ധമാണ്. കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങൾക്ക് അറിവിന്റെ വഴികാട്ടിയായും വിദ്യാരംഭത്തിനായി ഏറെ പ്രസിദ്ധമായിട്ടുമാണ് ഇവിടം അറിയപ്പെടുന്നത്.
കേരളത്തിലെ 108 ദുർഗ്ഗാലയങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നായ ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം പരശുരാമനാൽ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചതായി വിശ്വസിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. സരസ്വതീദേവിയോടൊപ്പം ഗണപതി പ്രതിഷ്ഠയും ദേവിയുടെ വാഹനമായ സിംഹത്തിൻറെ പ്രതിഷ്ഠയും ഇവിടെയുണ്ട്. മിഥുന മാസത്തിലെ പൂയം നാളാണ് ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രതിഷ്ഠാദിനം. നവരാത്രിയിലും വിജയദശമിയിലും ക്ഷേത്രം ആചാരാനുഷ്ഠാനങ്ങളും പൂജകളും കൊണ്ട് അതിപ്രധാന ദിവസങ്ങളായി മാറുന്നു. വർഷത്തിലെ ഏതു ദിവസവും വിദ്യാരംഭത്തിനായി ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം അനുയോജ്യമാണെന്നാണ് വിശ്വാസം.
അതിനാൽ, എല്ലാ ദിവസവും കുട്ടികളെ എഴുത്തിനിരുത്തുന്ന ചടങ്ങ് ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ നടക്കാറുണ്ട്. അദ്വൈത സിദ്ധാന്തത്തിന് അധിഷ്ഠാനമായ ശ്രീ ശങ്കരാചാര്യരുടെ എഴുത്തിനിരുത്തൽ ഇവിടെയായിരുന്നുവെന്ന് വിശ്വസിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു.
ഇവിടത്തെ ദേവി പ്രതിഷ്ഠ ഒരു ശിലയാണ്, അതിൽ ഭൂരിഭാഗവും ഭൂമിക്കടിയിലാണെന്ന് കരുതപ്പെടുന്നു. പരശുരാമനാണ് ഈ സ്വയംഭൂ പ്രതിഷ്ഠ കണ്ടെത്തിയതെന്നും, ദേവി പടിഞ്ഞാറോട്ടു ദർശനമുള്ളവളാണെന്നും ഐതിഹ്യമുണ്ട്.
കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങളുടെ പഠനവും സംസാരവികസനവും പ്രയോജനകരമാക്കാൻ ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെത്തിയാൽ മതിയെന്ന വിശ്വാസമുണ്ട്.
പഠന വൈകല്യമുള്ള കുട്ടികൾക്ക് നാവിന്റെ രൂപത്തിലുള്ള പ്രതിമ, മണി, നാരായം എന്നിവ നടയ്ക്കു വച്ച് പ്രാർത്ഥിച്ചാൽ അതിനുള്ള ദോഷപരിഹാരമുണ്ടാകുമെന്ന് വിശ്വസിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു.
ക്ഷേത്ര നട എല്ലാ ദിവസവും പുലർച്ചെ 5 മണിക്ക് തുറക്കുന്നു. നിർമ്മാല്യം, പന്തിരടി ദർശനം, ഉച്ചപൂജ എന്നിവയ്ക്കു ശേഷം രാവിലെ 10 മണിക്ക് നട അടയ്ക്കുന്നു. വൈകിട്ട് 5:30ന് വീണ്ടും നട തുറക്കുകയും ദീപാരാധന, അത്താഴപൂജ എന്നിവയ്ക്കു ശേഷം രാത്രി 8 മണിയോടെ ക്ഷേത്ര നട അടയ്ക്കുകയും ചെയ്യും.
