Chatukulam Mahadeva Temple is an ancient temple located in Kadungallur near Aluva. Believed to be over two millennia old, this temple is one of the prominent Shiva temples in Kerala.
It is situated close to the Sri Narasimha Swamy Temple in Kadungallur and is considered one of the most significant temples in the region. The presiding deity, Lord Shiva, is also revered as Sri Parameswaran Kadungallurappan.
The temple is well known for the "27 Pradakshinams" (circumambulations) performed on the first Saturday of every Malayalam month (Thirunetta Saturdays). This ritual symbolizes the 27 birth stars and is attended by a large number of devotees seeking blessings. The major festivals of the temple include Thiruvathira in the month of Dhanu and Maha Shivaratri in the month of Kumbham.
ചാറ്റുകുളം ശ്രീ മഹാദേവ ക്ഷേത്രം
ആലുവക്കടുത്ത് കടുങ്ങല്ലൂരിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ഒരു പ്രാചീനക്ഷേത്രമാണ് ചാറ്റുകുളം മഹാദേവക്ഷേത്രം, ഏകദേശം രണ്ടായിരം വർഷത്തിലധികം പഴക്കമുള്ളതാണെന്ന് കരുതപ്പെടുന്നു. കടുങ്ങല്ലൂർ ശ്രീ നരസിംഹസ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന് സമീപത്താണ് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നത്. ഐതിഹ്യങ്ങളും വിശ്വാസങ്ങളും കൊണ്ടു കടുങ്ങല്ലൂർ പ്രദേശത്തെ പ്രധാന ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നായി ഇതിനെ കണക്കാക്കുന്നു.
പുരാതന കേരളത്തിലെ ശിവക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ ഉൾപ്പെടുന്ന ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ പ്രധാന പ്രതിഷ്ഠ ശ്രീ പരമേശ്വരനാണ്, കടുങ്ങല്ലൂരപ്പൻ എന്ന പേരിലും ഭക്തർ ഈശ്വരനെ സ്തുതിക്കുന്നു. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ തന്ത്രിയായത് ബ്രഹ്മശ്രീ ഇടപ്പിള്ളി മന ദേവനാരായണൻ നമ്പൂതിരിയാണ്.
മലയാള മാസത്തിലെ എല്ലാ ആദ്യത്തെ ശനിയാഴ്ചകളിലും (മുപ്പാട്ട് ശനി) നടത്തപ്പെടുന്ന 27 പ്രദക്ഷിണം പ്രധാന ആകർഷണമാണ്, 27 ജന്മനക്ഷത്രങ്ങളെ പ്രതിനിധീകരിക്കുന്ന ഈ പ്രദക്ഷിണത്തിന് നാടിൻറെ വിവിധ ഭാഗങ്ങളിൽ നിന്ന് നിരവധി ഭക്തർ പങ്കെടുക്കുന്നു. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന ഉത്സവങ്ങൾ ധനുമാസത്തിലെ തിരുവാതിരയും കുംഭമാസത്തിലെ മഹാശിവരാത്രിയുമാണ്.
