Chengamanadu Mahadeva Temple is the main center of attraction in Chengamanadu and is one of the prominent Shiva temples in the Aluva region.
The presiding deity, Lord Shiva, is worshipped in the form of Kirata Murthi, facing east. The shrines of Goddess Parvati and Lord Ganapathi face west and south, respectively.
The temple was originally owned and managed by ten Brahmin families: Thaliyal Mana, Makaramattathu Mana, Maliekkal Mana, Padamattathu Mana, Padappa Mana, Vaippan Mana, Edaprambilli Mana, Mozhully Mana, Valiyakodathu Mana, and Azhvanchery Thamprakkal.
However, as the members of these families migrated to different places, managing the temple became challenging. Consequently, the administrative responsibilities were transferred to the Urazhma Devaswam Board. Currently, the temple is managed by the Urazhma Devaswam Board with the active involvement of a committee formed by the local devotees.
The temple’s annual festival is celebrated in the Malayalam month of Dhanu (December–January). It begins with the kodiyettu (flag hoisting) on the Chathayam star and lasts for ten days, culminating on the Thiruvathira nakshatra with the grand Aarattu ceremony.
Various traditional temple art forms such as Kathakali, Ottamthullal, and Paadakam are performed during the festival days. The most significant offering during the festival is "Ulsavabali."
On the final day, Aarattu, a magnificent ezhunnellippu (procession) takes place with seven caparisoned elephants, accompanied by the rhythmic beats of Panchavadyam and Pandimelam, creating a divine and festive atmosphere.
ചെങ്ങമനാട് മഹാദേവ ക്ഷേത്രം
എറണാകുളം ജില്ലയിലെ പാറക്കടവ് ബ്ലോക്കിലെ മനോഹരമായ പഞ്ചായത്തിലാണ് ചെങ്ങമനാട് മഹാദേവക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്നത്. ദേശീയപാതയിൽ നെടുമ്പാശ്ശേരിക്കടുത്തുള്ള അത്താണി ജംഗ്ഷനിൽ നിന്ന് 2 കിലോമീറ്റർ മാത്രം ദൂരം സഞ്ചരിച്ചാൽ ചെങ്ങമനാട് മഹാദേവർ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെത്താം.
"ചെങ്ങമനാട് മഹാദേവക്ഷേത്രം" ശിവക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ പ്രധാനപ്പെട്ടവയിൽ ഒന്നാണ്. ശ്രീകോവിലിന്റെ വലിപ്പം കണക്കിലെടുത്താൽ കേരളത്തിലെ ശിവക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ രണ്ടാമത്തെ സ്ഥാനത്താണ് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം.
കിഴക്ക് ദർശനമായാണ് ശിവൻ ഇവിടെ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിക്കപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നത്. കിരാതമൂർത്തിയുടെ ഭാവത്തിലാണ് ഇവിടെ ശിവൻ നിറഞ്ഞുനില്ക്കുന്നത്. ശ്രീപാർവതിയുടെയും ഗണപതിയുടെയും ശ്രീകോവിൽ യഥാക്രമം പടിഞ്ഞാറോട്ടും തെക്കോട്ടുമാണ് ദർശനമുള്ളത്. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ മറ്റ് പ്രധാന പ്രതിഷ്ഠകളിൽ ഭഗവാൻ അയ്യപ്പൻ, ഭദ്രകാളി, ശ്രീമഹാവിഷ്ണു എന്നിവരാണ്. ശിവന്റെ ശ്രീകോവിലിന് മുന്നിൽ നന്ദികേശന്റെ വിഗ്രഹം പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.
ക്ഷേത്രം 10 ബ്രാഹ്മണ കുടുംബങ്ങളുടെ ഉടമസ്ഥതയിലായിരുന്നു. മകരമറ്റത്ത് മന, മാളിയേക്കൽ മന, പടമറ്റത്ത് മന, പടപ്പ മന, വൈപ്പൻ മന, ഇടപ്രമ്പിള്ളി മന, മൊഴുളി മന, പോറ്റി മന, ആഴ്വാഞ്ചേരി തമ്പ്രക്കൽ. ഈ കുടുംബങ്ങൾ വിവിധയിടങ്ങളിലായി പരന്നതോടൊപ്പം ക്ഷേത്രഭരണം പരിപാലിക്കാൻ പ്രയാസമാകുന്നതായി കണ്ടതിനെ തുടർന്ന് ക്ഷേത്രം "ഊരാഴ്മ ദേവസ്വം ബോർഡിന്റെ" മേൽനോട്ടത്തിലേക്ക് കൈമാറി. നിലവിൽ ദേവസ്വം ബോർഡിന്റെ കീഴിലായാണ് ക്ഷേത്രം പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്നത്, കൂടാതെ പ്രാദേശിക ജനങ്ങളുടെ നേതൃത്വത്തിൽ രൂപീകരിച്ച "ഭരണസഹായ സമിതി" സഹായം നൽകുന്നു.
ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ വാർഷിക ഉത്സവം ധനുമാസത്തിൽ (ഡിസംബർ-ജനുവരി) ആചരിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. ചതയം നാളിൽ കൊടിയേറ്റ് ആരംഭിക്കുന്ന ഉത്സവം പത്ത് ദിവസം നീണ്ടുനിൽക്കുകയും തിരുവാതിര നക്ഷത്ര ദിനത്തിൽ ആറാട്ടോടെ സമാപിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു. ഉത്സവകാലത്ത് കഥകളി, ഒറ്റത്തുള്ളൽ, പാടകം തുടങ്ങിയ വിവിധ കലാരൂപങ്ങൾ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ അവതരിപ്പിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു.
"ദീപക്കാഴ്ച" ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ ഉത്സവത്തിന്റെയും ആരാധനരീതിയുടെയും ഏറ്റവും വലിയ സവിശേഷതകളിലൊന്നാണ്.
മുഴുവൻ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെയും ചുറ്റുമതിലുകളിൽ പരമ്പരാഗത വിളക്കുകൾ നിരത്തി, മനോഹരമായി പ്രകാശമണിയിക്കുന്ന കാഴ്ച ഭക്തജനങ്ങൾക്ക് ആകർഷകമാണ്. ഉത്സവത്തിൽ ഏറ്റവും പ്രധാനപ്പെട്ട വഴിപാടായ "ഉത്സവബലി ദർശനം" ഭക്തജനങ്ങൾ ധാരാളമായി സമർപ്പിക്കുന്നു.
ഉത്സവത്തിന്റെ സമാപന ദിനമായ ആറാട്ടിനോട് അനുബന്ധിച്ച്, രാവിലെയും രാത്രിയും ആടമ്പരത്തോടെ എഴുന്നള്ളിപ്പ് നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു. എഴുന്നള്ളിപ്പിൽ എഴു സിംഹഗജങ്ങൾ അണിനിരന്നോടൊപ്പം ഭക്തജനങ്ങളെ ആകർഷിക്കുന്ന പഞ്ചവാദ്യവും പാണ്ടിമേളവും നടക്കുന്നു. അതിനുശേഷം അതിമനോഹരമായ വെടിക്കെട്ടോടെ ഈ വലിയ മഹോത്സവം സമാപിക്കുന്നു.
