The centuries-old Kadavanthara Devi Temple is located in Kadavanthra, Ernakulam, approximately 1.2 km from Kadavanthara Junction.
Aadiparashakthi, the family deity, was traditionally worshipped here in two divine forms—Durga and Bhadrakali. Today, both goddesses are enshrined with equal significance, and the rituals are performed with the same devotion. The temple is open to all, regardless of religion or caste. The temple is currently managed by NSS Karayogam.
Within the temple premises, the sub-deities include Abheeshta Siddhidayaka Ganapathi, Amritha Kalasha Shastha—who offers divine relief from diseases and sorrows—Nagaraja, Nagayakshi, and Brahmarakshas. The temple's grand Thalappoli festival is celebrated over seven days in the Malayalam month of Meenam, with special rituals on the Bharani star day for Bhadrakali and the following Karthika star day for Durga Devi. Additionally, the Prathishta Mahotsavam is observed in the month of Midhunam on the Punartham star day, under the sacred guidance of the temple Thantri.
കടവന്ത്ര ദേവീ ക്ഷേത്രം
എറണാകുളം സൗത്ത് ഓവർബ്രിഡ്ജിൽ നിന്ന് വൈറ്റിലേക്കുള്ള സഹോദരൻ അയ്യപ്പൻ റോഡിൽ, കടവന്ത്ര ജംഗ്ഷനിൽ നിന്ന് 1.2 കിലോമീറ്റർ അകലെ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന നൂറ്റാണ്ടുകളോളം പഴക്കം ചെന്ന ക്ഷേത്രമാണ് കടവന്ത്ര ദേവി ക്ഷേത്രം. ഇവിടെ ആദിപരാശക്തിയെ കുടുംബ പരദേവതയായി ആരാധിച്ചിരുന്ന ഒരു പ്രമുഖ കുടുംബം ദേവിയെ ഭദ്രകാളി, ദുർഗ്ഗ ഭാവങ്ങളിൽ നിത്യപൂജകൾക്കായി പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചിരുന്നതായാണ് ഐതിഹ്യം.
ഇന്ന് ഈ രണ്ട് ഭാവങ്ങളെയും തുല്യപ്രാധാന്യത്തോടെ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ച് പൂജകൾ നടത്തുന്നു.ക്ഷേത്രം ഇപ്പോൾ NSS കരയോഗത്തിൻ്റെ കീഴിലാണ് ഭരണത്തിലുള്ളത്. ഉപദേവതകളായി അഭീഷ്ടസിദ്ധി നൽകുന്ന ഗണപതി, കൈകളിൽ അമൃതകലശം വഹിച്ച് രോഗശമനത്തിനായി അനുഗ്രഹം ചൊരിയുന്ന അമൃതകലശ ശാസ്താവ്, നാഗരാജാവ്, നാഗയക്ഷി, ബ്രഹ്മരക്ഷസ് എന്നിവ ക്ഷേത്രപരിസരത്ത് പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.
ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന വാർഷികോത്സവങ്ങളിലൊന്നാണ് എല്ലാ വർഷവും മീനമാസത്തിൽ ഭദ്രകാളി ദേവിക്ക് ഭരണം നക്ഷത്രത്തിലും ദുർഗ്ഗ ദേവിക്ക് കാർത്തിക നക്ഷത്രത്തിലും ആചരിക്കപ്പെടുന്ന 7 ദിവസം നീണ്ടുനിൽക്കുന്ന താലപ്പൊലി മഹോത്സവം. കൂടാതെ, മിഥുന മാസത്തിലെ പുണർതം നക്ഷത്രദിവസത്തിൽ ഭക്തിപൂർവം ആഘോഷിക്കപ്പെടുന്ന പ്രതിഷ്ഠാ മഹോത്സവം ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ ഒരു പ്രധാന വിശേഷമാണ്.
