Karikkode Mahadeva Temple, located in Ernakulam district, can be reached by traveling 5.4 kilometers from Vadavukode and 3.7 kilometers from Pattimattom.
The temple has an ancient history dating back 1,500 years. According to legend, centuries ago, while farmers were plowing the fields in Karikode, their plow struck a stone, causing blood to flow. Experts were called in, and upon investigation, a Shiva Lingam was discovered at the site.
Following this divine revelation, a temple was constructed, and regular poojas were initiated, making the Karikode Mahadeva Temple a well-known place of worship. The temple enshrines Lord Shiva as the principal deity, revered in the form of Tripuradahana.
It also houses the idols of Lord Subramanian, Goddess Bhagavathi, and Lord Ganesha. The major festivals celebrated here include Maha Shivaratri and Navaratri, with special poojas conducted on Mahanavami. Regular poojas are held, with a significant one performed on Wednesday evenings.

എറണാകുളം ജില്ലയിലെ വടവുകോട് നിന്നും 5.4 കിലോമീറ്ററും, പട്ടിമറ്റത്തുനിന്നും 3.7 കിലോമീറ്ററും ദൂരത്തിലാണ് കാരിക്കോട് ശ്രീ മഹാദേവർ ക്ഷേത്രം. നൂറ്റാണ്ടുകൾക്കുമുമ്പ്, കർഷകർ കാരിക്കോട് പാടത്ത് ഉഴുതപ്പോൾ അവരുടെ കലപ്പ ഒരു കല്ലിൽ തട്ടി, അതിൽ നിന്നും രക്തം ഒഴുകിയെന്നാണ് ഐതിഹ്യം. ഉടൻ വിദഗ്ധരെ വിളിച്ചുവരുത്തിയപ്പോൾ, അവിടെയാണ് ഒരു ശിവലിംഗം കണ്ടെത്തിയത്. അതിനെത്തുടർന്ന് ക്ഷേത്രം നിർമ്മിക്കുകയും പൂജകൾ ആരംഭിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തതോടെ, കാരിക്കോട് മഹാദേവർ ക്ഷേത്രം പ്രശസ്തമായി.
1500 വർഷം പഴക്കമുള്ള ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ പ്രധാന പ്രതിഷ്ഠയായ ശിവൻ, ത്രിപുരദഹനം കഴിഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്ന ഭാവത്തിലാണ്. കൂടാതെ ഭഗവതി, ഗണപതി എന്നിവരാണ് ഉപദേവതകൾ. ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ ശിവപ്രതിഷ്ഠയെ കുറിച്ചുള്ള ഒരു വിശേഷത എന്നതാണു്, ശിവൻ പശ്ചിമാഭിമുഖമായി സ്വയംഭൂവായി പ്രത്യക്ഷപ്പെട്ടതിനാൽ, അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ഉഗ്രദൃഷ്ടി കൊച്ചിയിലേക്ക് നേരിട്ടിരുന്നതും അതിനാൽ ശിവരാത്രി ദിവസം കൊച്ചിയിൽ അഗ്നിഭയം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നതുമാണ്.
ഈ പ്രശ്നപരിഹാരത്തിനായി ജ്യോതിഷ നിർദേശപ്രകാരം കൊച്ചി രാജാവ് സ്വന്തം ചെലവിൽ ശിവന്റെ അഭിമുഖമായി സുബ്രഹ്മണ്യനെ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചുവെന്ന് ചരിത്രത്തിലുണ്ട്. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന ഉത്സവങ്ങൾ ശിവരാത്രിയും നവരാത്രിയുമാണ്. എല്ലാ ബുധനാഴ്ചകളിലും വൈകുന്നേരം പ്രത്യേക പൂജകൾ നടക്കുന്നു. മഹാനവമി ദിനത്തിൽ വിശേഷാൽ പൂജകളും നടക്കുന്നു.
