Sree Lakshmi Narayana Temple, located about 8 km from the Kundannur Maradu Junction in Ernakulam District and near Kumbalam Railway Station, is a unique and revered place of worship.
It is one of the rare temples where Lord Vishnu, the Supreme Protector of the Worlds, and Goddess Mahalakshmi, the Bestower of Prosperity, are enshrined on the same pedestal. The temple serves as a spiritual refuge for devotees and is believed to bring prosperity to the entire region, attracting visitors from far and wide.
A century ago, the village surrounding the temple was underdeveloped. In response to the hardships faced by the villagers, Sree Narayana Gurudeva, the great social reformer, visited the area 93 years ago and listened to their concerns. As a result, a meeting was held, and the land known as Mathathiparambu was acquired for the construction of a temple. The initial objective was to build a sacred place for worship, and steps were taken to bring this vision to life.
A renowned sculptor was commissioned to carve the idol of the deity. However, despite his efforts, he was unable to complete it as originally intended. Instead, an alternative divine form kept appearing in his mind. Deeply disturbed, the sculptor had a dream in which he witnessed a divine vision of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Mahalakshmi blessing him in the form of Ardhanareeswara. Upon waking, he shared this experience with the temple committee, which then consulted an experienced astrologer.
After much deliberation, it was decided to proceed with sculpting the idol as envisioned in the dream and to install it in the temple. According to local legend, a Brahmin family lived on this land around 400 years ago and worshiped a Vaishnava deity. It is believed that the spiritual energy of their devotion remained in the land, which led to the sculptor's divine vision and the eventual construction of the magnificent Sri Lakshminarayana Temple.
The temple was completed on the 7th day of the Malayalam month of Meenam in the year 1128 A.D. The consecration ceremony (Prathishta Karma) was conducted by Sri Pallippuram Keshavan under the guidance of Sree Narayana Dharma Pracharana Sabha President Shri K.N. Kumaraswamy.
Later, idols of Lord Ganesha, Goddess Bhadrakali, Lord Ayyappa, and Lord Murugan were also installed in the temple premises.
The temple’s grand annual festival is celebrated over seven days, beginning with the Kodiyettam (flag hoisting) on the day of Pururuttati in the month of Meenam. The festivities conclude with the sacred Arattu ceremony on the day of Rohini, marking the culmination of this vibrant spiritual celebration.

എറണാകുളം ജില്ലയിലെ കുണ്ടന്നൂർ മരട് ജംഗ്ഷനിൽ നിന്ന് ഏകദേശം 8 കിലോമീറ്റർ അകലെയും, കുമ്പളം റെയിൽവേ സ്റ്റേഷനിന് സമീപവും സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന പ്രസിദ്ധമായ ക്ഷേത്രമാണ് ശ്രീ ലക്ഷ്മിനാരായണ ക്ഷേത്രം. ലോകനാഥനായ മഹാവിഷ്ണുവും സർവ്വൈശ്വര്യ പ്രദായിനിയായ മഹാലക്ഷ്മിയും ഒരേ ശിലയിൽ പ്രതിഷ്ഠയായി അനുഗ്രഹം ചൊരിഞ്ഞുനിൽക്കുന്ന അത്യപൂർവ്വമായ ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിലൊന്നാണ് കുമ്പളം ശ്രീ ലക്ഷ്മിനാരായണ ക്ഷേത്രം.
ആശ്രിതർക്ക് അഭയവും പ്രദേശത്തിന് സമൃദ്ധിയും നൽകുന്ന ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം ദൂരദൂരാന്തരങ്ങളിൽ നിന്നും അനേകം ഭക്തജനങ്ങളെ ആകർഷിക്കുന്നു.ഒരു നൂറ്റാണ്ട് മുൻപുവരെ ഈ ഗ്രാമം പിന്നോക്കാവസ്ഥയിൽ ആയിരുന്നു. അടിച്ചമർത്തപ്പെട്ട ജനവിഭാഗങ്ങളുടെ രക്ഷകനായി എത്തിയ ശ്രീനാരായണ ഗുരുദേവൻ 93 വർഷങ്ങൾക്ക് മുമ്പ് ഈ ഗ്രാമം സന്ദർശിക്കുകയും, ഗ്രാമവാസികളുടെ കഷ്ടപ്പാടുകൾ കേട്ടറിഞ്ഞ്, അവർക്കായി പ്രവർത്തിച്ചിരുന്ന പ്രാദേശിക സംഘടനകളെയും കുടുംബയോഗങ്ങളെയും ഏകീകരിച്ച് ശ്രീജ്ഞാനപ്രഭാകരയോഗം എന്ന സംഘടന രൂപീകരിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.
ചില കാലത്തിന് ശേഷം, ഈ യോഗം മഠത്തിപ്പറമ്പ് എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്ന ഈ ക്ഷേത്രമേഖലയുടെ ഭൂമി സ്വന്തമാക്കി. ആദ്യ ലക്ഷ്യം ഒരു ക്ഷേത്രം നിർമ്മിയ്ക്കലായിരുന്നു, അതിനായി തുടക്കക്കൊണ്ടു. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിക്കേണ്ട ദേവവിഗ്രഹം നിർമ്മിക്കാൻ ഒരു പ്രശസ്ത ശില്പിക്ക് ചുമതല നൽകി.
എന്നാൽ വിഗ്രഹ നിർമ്മാണം ആരംഭിച്ച ശില്പിക്ക് അതിനെ എങ്ങനെയായാലും പൂർത്തിയാക്കാൻ കഴിയുന്നില്ലായിരുന്നു.
പ്രത്യക്ഷമായിരുന്ന ദേവതാരൂപം അല്ലാതെ മറ്റൊരു ദിവ്യരൂപമാണ് ശില്പിയുടെ മനസ്സിൽ നിറയുന്നത്. മാനസിക സംഘർഷത്തിലായ ശില്പിക്ക് അതേ സമയം ഒരു ദിവ്യസ്വപ്നം ലഭിച്ചു—ശ്രീ മഹാവിഷ്ണുവും മഹാലക്ഷ്മിയും അർദ്ധനാരീശ്വരരൂപത്തിൽ പ്രത്യക്ഷമായി അനുഗ്രഹം നൽകുന്ന ദർശനം!
ഈ ദിവ്യാനുഭവം ശില്പി ക്ഷേത്രയോഗ ഭാരവാഹികളെ അറിയിച്ചു. ഈ അസാധാരണ അനുഭവത്തെക്കുറിച്ച് യോഗം ഒരു പ്രഗത്ഭ ജ്യോതിഷപണ്ഡിതനെ വിളിച്ചു പ്രശ്നചിന്ത നടത്തി. അതിന് ശേഷം, ശില്പി സ്വപ്നത്തിൽ ദർശിച്ച അതേ ദേവവിഗ്രഹം നിർമിക്കാനും, ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ അതിനെ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിക്കാനും യോഗം ഒരുമതിയായി തീരുമാനിച്ചു.
വിശ്വംഭരനായ മഹാവിഷ്ണുവും സർവ്വൈശ്വര്യ പ്രദായിനിയായ മഹാലക്ഷ്മിയും അർദ്ധനാരീശ്വരരൂപത്തിലും, വിഘ്നേശ്വരനായ ഗണപതിയും, കലിയുഗവരദനായ ശ്രീ അയ്യപ്പനും, ശക്തിസ്വരൂപിണിയായ ഭദ്രകാളിയും, ദുർഗ്ഗാദേവിയും, ക്ഷിപ്രപ്രസാദിയായ ശ്രീമുരുകനും, സർവ്വദോഷഹരിയായ നാഗരാജനും നാഗയക്ഷിയും സംഗമിക്കുന്ന ഈ പുണ്യക്ഷേത്രം ദിവ്യചൈതന്യത്താൽ അനുഗ്രഹീതമാണെന്ന് ഭക്തജനങ്ങൾ അനുഭവിച്ചറിയുന്നു.
ഓരോ ദേവീ-ദേവന്മാരുടെയും പ്രത്യേക ദിവസങ്ങളിൽ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ വിശേഷാൽ പൂജകളും കർമ്മങ്ങളും നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു. കൂടാതെ, അന്നദാനവും മറ്റു വിശേഷാനുഷ്ഠാനങ്ങളും ഉണ്ടാവും. മീനമാസത്തിലെ പൂരുരുട്ടാതി നാളിൽ കൊടിയേറി, രോഹിണി നക്ഷത്രദിവസത്തിൽ ആറാട്ടോടുകൂടി ക്ഷേത്രോത്സവ ചടങ്ങുകൾ വളരെ ആചാരപ്രകാരവും ഭക്തിപൂർവ്വവുമായും ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നു.
