Kumbalam Thrikkov Mahadeva Temple is located 8 km south of Ernakulam Kundannur Maradu Junction. This temple is unique as it houses both Swayambhu Mahadevan (self-manifested Shiva) and Pratishta Mahadevan (consecrated Shiva) within the same sanctum.
While various local legends and myths surround the temple’s origins, there is a lack of clear historical records. Lord Kumbalathappan stands facing east, showering his divine blessings upon Kumbaladesham and all devotees who seek refuge in him.
Kumbalam Thrikkov Mahadeva Temple is a magnificent temple where five daily poojas and three Sheevelis (ritualistic processions) are conducted.
The day begins at 4 AM with Nirmalyadarshanam, which is considered highly auspicious. After the Nirmalyam Thozhal, all previous decorations on the Shiva Lingam are removed, and the deity is then adorned with vibhuti (sacred ash), rudraksha garlands, koovala (bilva) leaves, stalk garlands, moonstones, and a symbolic third eye before the flower offering. The Usha Pooja is performed at 4 AM, followed by the Etirettu Pooja at sunrise, after which the Etirettu Sheeveli takes place, where the idol of Lord Shiva is ceremoniously carried in procession.
After this, Navakabhishekam and various other ablutions are performed.
At 8 AM, the Pantheeradi Pooja is held, named so because it is performed when the shadow measures twelve feet. The Noon Pooja begins at 11 AM, followed by another Noon Sheeveli with rituals similar to those of the morning Sheeveli. The temple closes in the afternoon and reopens at 4 PM. In the evening, Deeparadhana (lamp worship) is conducted at sunset.
In earlier times, there was a special Sandhyavela ritual performed daily for foreign Brahmins during Deeparadhana, but today it is limited to special occasions and holidays.
After Deeparadhana, Athazha Pooja (night worship) takes place at 8 PM, followed by Athazha Sheeveli at 8:30 PM. Devotees strongly believe that performing Rudrabhishekam at the temple brings divine blessings, heals ailments, and protects from misfortunes. Shivratri and Thiruvathira are the most significant festivals observed at the temple.

കിഴക്കോട്ട് ദർശനമായ കുമ്പളത്തപ്പൻ, കുമ്പളദേശത്തെയും അഭയം തേടിയെത്തുന്ന ഭക്തജനങ്ങളെയും അനുഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നു.
നിത്യേന അഞ്ച് പ്രധാന പൂജകളും മൂന്ന് ശീവേലികളും ഉള്ള മഹാക്ഷേത്രമാണ് കുമ്പളം തൃക്കോവ് മഹാദേവ ക്ഷേത്രം. ദിവസത്തിൽ ആദ്യ പൂജയായ നിർമ്മാല്യദർശനം രാവിലെ 4 മണിക്ക് നടതുറക്കുന്നതോടൊപ്പം നടക്കുന്നു. നിർമ്മാല്യം തൊഴുന്നത് അതീവ വിശിഷ്ടമായി കണക്കാക്കപ്പെടുന്നു.
ഇതിന് ശേഷം ശംഖാഭിഷേകം ഉൾപ്പെടെ എല്ലാ അലങ്കാരങ്ങളും മാറ്റി പുതുക്കുന്നു. വലമ്പിരി ശംഖിൽ തീർത്ഥജലം നിറച്ച് മന്ത്രോചാരത്തോടെ അഭിഷേകം ചെയ്യുന്ന ശംഖാഭിഷേകം, വളരെ പ്രാധാന്യമുള്ള ചടങ്ങാണ്. അതിനുശേഷം ഭസ്മം, രുദ്രാക്ഷമാല, കൂവളമാല, തുമ്പപ്പൂമാല, ചന്ദ്രക്കലകൾ, ത്രിനേത്രങ്ങൾ തുടങ്ങിയവ ഉപയോഗിച്ച് ശിവലിംഗം അലങ്കരിക്കുന്നു. തുടർന്ന് മലർ നിവേദ്യം സമർപ്പിക്കുന്നു.
ഉഷഃപൂജ രാവിലെ 4:30ന്, എതിരേറ്റുപൂജ സൂര്യോദയസമയത്ത്, തുടർന്ന് ശീവേലി, നവകാഭിഷേകം, വിവിധ തരം ധാരകൾ എന്നിവ നിർവഹിക്കുന്നു. പന്തീരടിപൂജ രാവിലെ 8 മണിക്ക് നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു. ശിവക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ വളരെ പ്രാധാന്യമുള്ള ശിവരാത്രി, തിരുവാതിര എന്നിവ വിശേഷപ്പെട്ട ഉത്സവങ്ങളാണ്.
രുദ്രാഭിഷേകസേവനത്തിൽ ഭഗവാനുവേണ്ടി ഇഷ്ടദ്രവ്യങ്ങൾ സമർപ്പിച്ചാൽ, ഭക്തർക്ക് ശിവാനുഗ്രഹം ഉറപ്പാണെന്നാണ് വിശ്വാസം. ഈശ്വര കൃപയാൽ അസുഖങ്ങൾ മാറും, അപമൃത്യു ഒഴിവാകും, ശിവസായൂജ്യം ലഭിക്കും, പാപങ്ങൾ ക്ഷമിക്കപ്പെടും. കൂടാതെ, സാമ്പത്തിക നേട്ടം, ഐശ്വര്യം, ദീർഘായുസ്സ്, സന്താനലാഭം എന്നിവയെല്ലാം ലഭിക്കും. സർപ്പദോഷം, ശത്രുബാധ, ദോഷങ്ങൾ എന്നിവ ശാന്തമാകുമെന്ന് അനന്തമായ വിശ്വാസം ഭക്തർക്ക് ഉണ്ട്.
