Mannam Sree Subrahmanyaswamy Temple in North Paravur, Ernakulam, is renowned for its unique Prasad ritual.
Here, devotees offer salt as a sacred vow to fulfill their wishes. Those who have lost valuables, important documents, or face challenges in life, as well as those suffering from skin or stomach disorders, make a vow and offer salt at the temple, believing in Lord Subramanya’s divine intervention. Devotees who have visited for years testify to the miraculous powers of the deity in resolving their problems.
The idol receives Abhisheka with Panchamrutham, milk, rose water, and tender coconut water, enhancing its divine aura. On the northwestern side of the Nalambalam, an icon of Hidumban, who emerged from Lord Shiva, is installed. The temple also houses a silver-plated stone idol of Murugan, believed to have been established by Sage Parashurama, situated beneath a sacred banyan tree. The main deity, standing over five feet tall, radiates brilliance when the temple lamps are lit.
For devotees facing delays in marriage or difficulty in choosing between good proposals, it is advised to place rock salt in a pot behind the Dhwaja Stambha. It is believed that by doing so, the right partner will soon be chosen, and the marriage will take place without obstacles. Devotees are also encouraged to apply Murugan’s Vibhuti (sacred ash) as a Tilak on their forehead, perform Pradakshina (circumambulation) around the temple while chanting Subrahmanya mantras, and finally seek the blessings of Valli and Devasena, the consorts of Lord Murugan.
മന്നം സുബ്രഹ്മണ്യസ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രം
എറണാകുളം ജില്ലയിലെ വടക്കൻ പറവൂർ പട്ടണത്തിൽ നിന്ന് 3.3 കിലോമീറ്റർ ആലുവ ഭാഗത്തേക്ക് യാത്രചെയ്താൽ മന്നം സുബ്രഹ്മണ്യസ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെത്താം. ഏറെ പുരാതനമായ ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം ടിപ്പുവിൻറെ ആക്രമണകാലത്ത് തകർന്നതായും വിഗ്രഹം മോഷ്ടിക്കപ്പെട്ടതായും കരുതപ്പെടുന്നു. പറവൂർ തമ്പുരാൻറെ (പിണ്ടിനിവട്ടത്ത് സ്വരൂപം) കീഴിലായിരുന്നു ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം. പിന്നീട് കൊല്ലവർഷം 1123-ൽ പുതിയ വിഗ്രഹം പ്രതിഷ്ഠിക്കപ്പെട്ടു.
ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ ഇന്ന് വരെ ഉത്സവവും കൊടിമരവും ഇല്ലെന്നതാണ് പ്രത്യേകത. ഇവിടുത്തെ പ്രധാന വഴിപാട് 'ഉപ്പാ'ണ്. ഭക്തജനങ്ങൾ അവരവരുടെ അഭിഷ്ടസിദ്ധിക്കായി ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ ഉപ്പ് നേർച്ചയിടുന്നത് പതിവാണ്. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിനടുത്തുള്ള കടകളിൽ കല്ലുപ്പ് പാക്കറ്റിലാക്കി വിൽപ്പനയ്‌ക്കായി ഒരുക്കിയിട്ടുണ്ടാകും.
മന്നം സുബ്രഹ്മണ്യസ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ തൈപ്പൂയ കാവടി അതീവപ്രസിദ്ധമാണ്. ഈ മഹോത്സവത്തിൽ നിരവധി കാവടി സംഘങ്ങൾ അണിനിരക്കും. ചാലിയ സമുദായക്കാരുടെ കാവടി സംഘങ്ങളും ശ്രദ്ധേയമായിരിക്കും. കരിക്ക്, ശർക്കര, തേൻ, ഭസ്മം എന്നിവ നിറച്ച് കെട്ടിയ കാവടിത്തണ്ടിയിൽ തൂക്കി കൊണ്ടാണ് കാവടി തുള്ളൽ. ദിവസങ്ങളോളം വ്രതമനുഷ്ഠിച്ച ശേഷം ഭക്തർ കാവടിയേറ്റുന്നത് ആചാരപരമായ ഒരു പ്രധാന ആനുഷ്ഠാനമാണ്.
