Maramkulangara Krishna Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Krishna, located in Eroor along the Vennala-Eroor route in Kerala, India.
This temple, considered an Abhimana Kshetram of Lord Vishnu, is easily accessible by road from Palarivattom, Thrippunithura, and Vyttila. The principal deity here is Bala Krishna, worshipped in his child form. Locally, he is revered as a "Child Specialist" deity, believed to offer protection and blessings to young children.
According to legend, Krishna's incarnation was destined to end Kamsa's tyranny. When Kamsa sent the demoness Poothana to poison the infant Krishna through breastfeeding, Krishna instead drew out her very soul, granting her salvation. Yashoda, suspecting that her child had been poisoned, wept in distress. At that moment, Lord Vishnu appeared before her and poured divine nectar on Krishna from a sacred well.
This event led to the temple's name, "Maramkulangara," meaning "the one who vanquished the woman who came to kill." To this day, the well's water is considered sacred and is used to bathe infants. The temple was built by Elamprakkodathu Mana, an ancient Namboodiri family that once held ownership over several temples, including Sree Poornathrayesa Temple and Pishari Kovil Bhagavathi Temple. The sub-deities worshipped here include Lord Ganapathy, Lord Ayyappan, and serpent deities (Nagas).
Devotees believe Bala Krishna offers protection to children from "Pakshipeeda" (evil influences caused by birds). Parents bring their infants here even before their first rice-feeding ceremony (Choroonu). As part of a special ritual, children are bathed with the temple’s sacred water (Theertham), left to dry naturally without wiping, and then taken inside for darshan, seeking the Lord's divine grace.

എറണാകുളം ജില്ലയിലെ തൃപ്പൂണിത്തുറ, വെണ്ണല-എരൂർ റോഡിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന പുരാതനക്ഷേത്രമായ മാരംകുളങ്ങര ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണ ക്ഷേത്രം ഏകദേശം 700 വർഷത്തിലധികം പഴക്കമുള്ള മഹാക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിലൊന്നാണ്. കിഴക്കോട്ട് ദർശനമായ ഉണ്ണിക്കണ്ണൻ ഇവിടെ അനുദിനം ഭക്തർക്ക് അനുഗ്രഹാശിഷ് നൽകുന്നു. മഹാവിഷ്ണുവിന്റെ സാന്നിധ്യവും ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണന്റെ ചൈതന്യവുമുള്ള ദിവ്യവിഗ്രഹമാണ് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന പ്രതിഷ്ഠ.
കുട്ടികളുടെ ക്ഷേത്രമായി അറിയപ്പെടുന്ന ഈ ദേവീക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ ഉണ്ണിക്കണ്ണൻ കുട്ടികളുടെ ആരോഗ്യസംരക്ഷകനായി പ്രശസ്തനാണ്. മാരംകുളങ്ങര ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണനെ പൊതുവെ ബാലകൃഷ്ണൻ എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. ക്ഷേത്രം എറൂർയിലെ എളംപ്രക്കോടം മനയുടെ ഉടമസ്ഥതയിലായിരുന്നു. ഉപദേവതകളായി ശാസ്താവും ഗണപതിയും ഇവിടെ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. കേരളത്തിലെ മറ്റ് ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ പൊതുവേ 200 ദിവസങ്ങൾ കഴിഞ്ഞ് ചോറൂൺ കഴിഞ്ഞശേഷം മാത്രമേ കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങൾക്ക് ക്ഷേത്രപ്രവേശനം അനുവദിക്കാറുള്ളു.
എന്നാല്‍, ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ ജനനം കഴിഞ്ഞ് പതിനാറ് ദിവസത്തിന് ശേഷം തന്നെ കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങളെ ദർശനത്തിനായി എത്തിക്കാവുന്നതാണ്. കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങൾക്കെതിരെയുള്ള പക്ഷിപീഡ, ഗൃഹണി, കരപ്പൻ തുടങ്ങിയ ബാലാരിഷ്ടങ്ങൾ മാറ്റുന്നതിൽ ഉണ്ണിക്കണ്ണൻ മഹത്വപരനാണ്. ഭഗവാൻ ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണനെ വധിക്കാനായി കംസൻ പല മാർഗങ്ങളും ആലോചിച്ചു. മുലകുടിക്കുന്ന പ്രായത്തിലുള്ള കൃഷ്ണനെ കൊല്ലാൻ അയച്ചത് പൂതനയെന്ന യക്ഷിയെയായിരുന്നു. അതിസുന്ദരിയായ സ്ത്രീവേഷത്തിൽ ഗോകുലത്തിലെത്തിയ പൂതന, തന്റെ സ്തനങ്ങളിൽ വിഷം പുരട്ടി ഉണ്ണിക്കണ്ണനെ മുലയൂട്ടാൻ ശ്രമിച്ചു.
എന്നാൽ, കൃഷ്ണൻ പൂതനയുടെ പ്രാണൻ വലിച്ചെടുത്ത് അവളെ മോക്ഷം പ്രാപിപ്പിച്ചു.
ഈ ദൃശ്യങ്ങൾ കണ്ട് യശോദാമാതാവ് ഭീതിയിലായി. തന്റെ കുഞ്ഞിന് വിഷബാധയേറ്റിട്ടുണ്ടോ എന്ന ആശങ്കയിൽ കരഞ്ഞു. അതിനുപിന്നാലെ മഹാവിഷ്ണുവിനെ പ്രാർത്ഥിച്ച യശോദയ്ക്ക് ദിവ്യാനുഗ്രഹമായി ആകാശത്തു നിന്നു അമൃതജലം ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ കിണറ്റിലേക്കു വർഷിച്ചു.ആ വെള്ളത്തിൽ കുളിച്ച ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണൻ വിഷബാധയിൽ നിന്ന് മോചിതനായി.
അങ്ങിനെ "കൊല്ലാൻ വന്നവളെ കൊന്നവനായി" അറിയപ്പെട്ട ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം മാരംകുളങ്ങര എന്നായെന്നാണ് ഐതിഹ്യം. ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന വഴിപാട് കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങളുടെ തീർത്ഥസ്നാനമാണ്. പഞ്ചദിവസം തുടർച്ചയായി ക്ഷേത്രകിണറ്റിലെ വെള്ളത്തിൽ കുളിപ്പിച്ചാൽ കുട്ടികളെ ബാധിക്കുന്ന അസുഖങ്ങൾ മാറുമെന്നാണ് വിശ്വാസം. കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങളെ ക്ഷേത്ര നടയിൽ വെച്ച് കുളിപ്പിച്ചശേഷം അവരെ ദർശനത്തിനായി അകത്തേക്കു കൊണ്ടുപോകുന്നു. മേൽശാന്തി കുട്ടികൾക്ക് പൂജിച്ച ചരടും അനുഗ്രഹിക്കുമെന്നതും പ്രത്യേകതയാണ്.
കേരളത്തിനകത്തും പുറത്തുമുള്ള അനേകം കുട്ടികൾക്ക് ഉണ്ണിക്കണ്ണന്റെ അനുഗ്രഹത്തോടെ രോഗമുക്തിയുണ്ടായതായി അനുഭവങ്ങൾ പറയുന്നു. അഷ്ടമിരോഹിണി മഹോത്സവം പ്രധാനമാണ്, കൂടാതെ തൃക്കൈവെണ്ണ, ബാലയൂട്ട്, തുളസിമാല, താമരമാല, വെണ്ണതുലാഭാരം, മുഴുക്കാപ്പ്, ചന്ദനം ചാർത്തൽ, പാലും വെണ്ണയും സമർപ്പിക്കൽ തുടങ്ങിയ വഴിപാടുകൾയും പ്രശസ്തമാണ്. ഉണ്ണിക്കണ്ണന്റെ കൃപ തേടി ഭക്തജനങ്ങൾ ഇവിടെ ആചാരാനുഷ്ഠാനങ്ങളോടെ ദർശനത്തിനെത്തുന്നു.
