Mattalil Bhagavathy Temple is a prominent spiritual center located in the heart of Ernakulam city, near Kadavanthra Junction.
Mattalil Bhagavathy Temple is dedicated to Devi Adi Parashakti in the form of Bhadrakali. Along with the main deity, the temple also enshrines sub-deities, including Lord Ganapathi, Lord Ayyappan, Lord Murukan, and Sri Gantakaranan, all of whom were consecrated on the same day. Additionally, a revered idol of Sri Narayana Gurudevan is present within the temple complex.
The temple's grand five-day annual festival begins on the Chathayam star day in the month of Kumbham and concludes on the following Aswathi day, attracting devotees from far and wide. Historically, Mattalil Bhagavathy was the Paradevatha (family deity) of the Mattalil family. The temple premises originally featured a large Pala tree on the eastern side, a Nagathara (serpent worship site) surrounded by lush greenery, a sacred pond, and a jasmine garden at the center.
Around the jasmine garden, various deities were worshipped on red stone platforms. In earlier times, the temple followed traditional rituals, including the sacrifice of roosters and other ancient rites. However, the absence of a structured temple and a proper spiritual atmosphere was felt deeply by the local community.
In 1912, when Sri Narayana Gurudevan visited Chilavannur, a nearby village, the local elders approached him with their concerns about the lack of a proper temple in the area. Gurudevan, through his divine vision, identified a place where he foresaw the radiant presence of Devi due to the devotion and rituals performed there for centuries. As a result, Mattalil Bhagavathy Temple was established as a sacred spiritual center, continuing to be a beacon of devotion and divine grace.
കടവന്ത്ര മട്ടലിൽ ഭഗവതി ക്ഷേത്രം, കൊച്ചി
എറണാകുളം നഗരത്തിലെ പ്രധാന ആരാധനാലയങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നാണ് കടവന്ത്ര മട്ടലിൽ ഭഗവതി ക്ഷേത്രം. കടവന്ത്ര ജംഗ്ഷനിൽ നിന്ന് 200 മീറ്റർ തെക്ക് കെ.പി. വള്ളോൻ റോഡിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ സർവാഭീഷ്ടപ്രദായിനിയായ ഭദ്രകാളിയാണ് പ്രധാന പ്രതിഷ്ഠ. മംഗല്യസിദ്ധിക്കും, സന്താനസൗഭാഗ്യത്തിനും, സങ്കടനിവാരണത്തിനുമായി ഭക്തജനങ്ങൾ ദേവിയുടെ തിരുമുമ്പിൽ പ്രാർത്ഥനയ്ക്ക് എത്തുന്നു.
മട്ടലിൽ ഭഗവതി ആദ്യം കിഴക്കേമട്ടലിൽ കുടുംബത്തിന്റേ പരദേവതയായിരുന്നുവെന്ന് വിശ്വസിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു.
ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ കിഴക്കുഭാഗത്ത് വലിയ പാലമരവും പടിഞ്ഞാറ് സർപ്പക്കാടും നടുവിൽ മുല്ലത്തറയും കുളവുമുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. മുല്ലത്തറയ്ക്കു ചുറ്റും ചെങ്കല്ലുകളിൽ വിവിധ ദേവതാമൂർത്തികളെ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ച് ആരാധിച്ചു പോന്നു. ആണ്ടുത്സവത്തിനോടനുബന്ധിച്ച് കോഴിവെട്ടൽ, മന്ത്രവാദം എന്നിവയും മുൻകാലങ്ങളിൽ നടത്തിവരുകയായിരുന്നു.
1912-ൽ ചിലവന്നൂരിലെത്തിയ ശ്രീനാരായണ ഗുരുദേവൻ തിരിച്ചു പോകുംവേളയിൽ, കടവന്ത്രയിലെ ചില പൗരന്മാർ ഇവിടെ ഒരു ക്ഷേത്രമില്ലാത്തതിനുള്ള തങ്ങളുടെ വിഷമം അദ്ദേഹത്തോട് അറിയിച്ചു. അപ്പോൾ, ഗുരുദേവൻ ദേവീ പൂജ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന സ്ഥലത്തെ ചൂണ്ടിക്കാണിച്ചുകൊണ്ട്, "ഇവിടെയൊരുകീ പൂർണ്ണ ക്ഷേത്രം ഉണ്ടാവും" എന്ന് അരുളിച്ചെയ്തത് ഫലവത്തായി. അങ്ങനെ കടവന്ത്രയിൽ മട്ടലിൽ ഭഗവതി ക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥാപിതമായി.
ജാതിമതഭേദമില്ലാതെ സർവമതസ്ഥരും ആദിപരാശക്തിയുടെ അനുഗ്രഹം തേടിയെത്തുന്നത് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ സവിശേഷതയാണ്. 2015 മേയ് 25-ന് (മകം നക്ഷത്രം) ക്ഷേത്ര ആചാര്യൻ ഡോ. കാരുമാത്ര വിജയൻ തന്ത്രി, ദേവിയുടെ പഞ്ചലോഹ വിഗ്രഹ പ്രതിഷ്ഠയും ശ്രീ ഗണപതി, ശ്രീ അയ്യപ്പൻ, ശ്രീ മുരുകൻ, ശ്രീ ഘണ്ഠാകർണൻ എന്നിവരുടെ ഉപദേവതാ പ്രതിഷ്ഠകളും നിർവഹിച്ചു.
ഗുരുദേവ ക്ഷേത്രവും ഇതേ ക്ഷേത്ര സമുച്ചയത്തിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു. എല്ലാ വർഷവും കുംഭമാസത്തിലെ ചതയം നാളിൽ ആരംഭിച്ച് അശ്വതി നാളിൽ അവസാനിക്കുന്ന അഞ്ച് ദിവസം നീളുന്ന വാർഷിക മഹോത്സവം ഭക്തജനങ്ങളുടെ കൂട്ടായ്മയ്ക്ക് സാക്ഷിയാകുന്നു.
