Sree Hanuman Temple in Mattancherry, Kochi, is a revered Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman, the supreme devotee of Lord Rama.
Sree Hanuman, the supreme devotee of Lord Sree Rama, is revered as the embodiment of unwavering devotion (Bhakti) and selfless love for God. Known for his eternal celibacy and unparalleled dedication to Karma Yoga, Hanuman is a source of strength, courage, intelligence, fame, fearlessness, and eloquence. Devotees seek his blessings for success in life, unwavering determination, and the removal of obstacles.
In the southeast corner of the main temple stands the shrine of Vajradehi Hanuman. During the 16th century, prominent merchants in the region, well-versed in Portuguese and Dutch languages, played a crucial role as interpreters. According to legend, Portuguese invaders plundered a Hanuman temple near Rameswaram and took the idol aboard their ship along with other treasures. As their interest lay only in gold and valuables, they were about to discard the idol into the sea.
Sri Kalaga Prabhu, a distinguished personality on board, tactfully took possession of the idol and upon reaching Cochin, presented it to the temple. In 1881, during the temple's reconstruction and the third Pratishta ceremony, the idol of Vajradehi Hanuman was enshrined in its current location.
Hanuman Swamy is believed to possess extraordinary powers—faster than the wind, unshakable moral strength, Ashta Aishwarya Siddhi (eight divine attainments), and the ability to change his size at will. Devotees believe that regular worship of Hanuman Swamy grants them wisdom, strength, courage, fame, eloquence, good health, and fearlessness. It is also believed that sincere devotion to Hanuman helps overcome personal weaknesses and attain spiritual and physical well-being.
മട്ടാഞ്ചേരി ഹനുമാൻ ക്ഷേത്രം
മട്ടാഞ്ചേരിയിലെ അമരാവതിയിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ശ്രീ ഹനുമാൻ ക്ഷേത്രം കൊങ്കണി സമുദായത്തിൻറെ ഉടമസ്ഥതയിലുള്ളതാണ്. പതിനേഴാം നൂറ്റാണ്ടിൽ സ്ഥാപിതമായ ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ ഹനുമാനാണ് പ്രധാന പ്രതിഷ്ഠ. ക്ഷേത്രം കൊങ്കണി വൈശ്യ സമുദായം പരിപാലിച്ചു പോരുന്നു, ഗൗഡ സരസ്വത് ബ്രാഹ്മണരാണ് ക്ഷേത്രഭരണത്തിനു നേതൃത്വം നൽകുന്നത്. പതിനാറാം നൂറ്റാണ്ടിൽ അവർ പ്രഭാവം നേടിയ വ്യാപാരികളായിരുന്നു.
പോർച്ചുഗീസ്, ഡച്ച് ഭാഷകളിൽ വിദ്യാസമ്പന്നരായ ഇവർ വാഗ്മികളായിരുന്നതിനാൽ വിദേശികൾക്ക് നിർഭാഗ്യവശാൽ ഒഴിച്ചുകൂടാനാകാത്തവരായി. ഐതിഹ്യാനുസാരമായി, പോർച്ചുഗീസ് അധിനിവേശകാലത്ത് രാമേശ്വരത്തിനടുത്തുള്ള ഒരു ഹനുമാൻ ക്ഷേത്രം ആക്രമിക്കപ്പെട്ടു. വിഗ്രഹത്തോടുകൂടിയ കൊള്ളമുതൽ പോർച്ചുഗീസുകാർ അവരുടെ കപ്പലിലേക്ക് കയറ്റി കടലിലേക്ക് പുറപ്പെടുകയായിരുന്നു. അവരുടെ താൽപ്പര്യം സ്വർണ്ണത്തിലും വിലയേറിയ വസ്തുക്കളിലും മാത്രമായിരുന്നതിനാൽ, ഹനുമാൻ വിഗ്രഹം അവർക്കു പ്രത്യേക പ്രാധാന്യമില്ലായിരുന്നു.
വിഗ്രഹം കടലിലേക്ക് എറിയാനൊരുങ്ങിയപ്പോൾ, കപ്പലിലുണ്ടായിരുന്ന ശ്രീ കലഗ പ്രഭു തന്ത്രപരമായി വിഗ്രഹം കൈവശപ്പെടുത്തി. കൊച്ചിയിലെത്തിയശേഷം, ഒരു ചെറിയ ക്ഷേത്രം നിർമ്മിച്ച് ഹനുമാൻ വിഗ്രഹം അവിടെ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചു. വിശ്വാസമനുസരിച്ച്, നിത്യവും ഹനുമാൻ സ്വാമിയെ ഭജിക്കുന്നവർക്ക് ബുദ്ധി, ബലം, ധൈര്യം, കീർത്തി, വാക്സാമർത്ഥ്യം, രോഗമില്ലായ്മ, ഭയമില്ലായ്മ തുടങ്ങിയ ഗുണങ്ങൾ ലഭിക്കും.
നമ്മളിലുള്ള ദൗർബല്യങ്ങളെ ഇല്ലാതാക്കാനും ഹനുമാൻ സ്വാമിയെ ഭജിക്കുന്നത് സഹായകമാകുമെന്നാണ് ആശങ്ക. സർവ്വൈശ്വര്യങ്ങൾക്കും സന്തുഷ്ട ജീവിതത്തിനുമായി ഹനുമാൻ സ്വാമിക്ക് കുങ്കുമ ചാർത്തുന്ന വഴിപാട് ഏറെ ഫലപ്രദമാണ്.ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന ഉത്സവങ്ങൾ രാമനവമി (മാർച്ച്-ഏപ്രിൽ)യും ഹനുമാൻ ജയന്തി (ഡിസംബർ-ജനുവരി)യുമാണ്.
