Paliyam Puthiyathrikkovu Temple, located in Chendamangalam, Ernakulam district, Kerala, is closely associated with the Paliam Kovilakam and Paliam Nalukettu.
The temple's annual festival begins seven days before the new moon day in the Malayalam month of Kumbham and concludes on the new moon day.
According to legend, Vaikkathappan (Lord Shiva of Vaikom) appeared at this site to bless his devoted follower, Paliyattachan.
Due to his old age and the difficulty of traveling during heavy floods, Paliyattachan was unable to visit Vaikom for the annual worship that year. In response to his devotion, Vaikkathappan manifested here, leading to the construction of a temple near the Paliam Palace. Over time, this temple came to be known as Paliyam Puthiyathrikkovu Temple, and it is believed to be dedicated to Vaikkathappan himself.

എറണാകുളം ജില്ലയിലെ വടക്കൻ പറവൂരിലെ ബാങ്ക് കവലയിൽ നിന്ന് നാലു കിലോമീറ്റർ സഞ്ചരിച്ചാൽ ചേന്ദമംഗലത്തെ പാലിയം പുതിയ തൃക്കോവ് ശിവക്ഷേത്രം എത്തിച്ചേരാം. ചരിത്രപരമായ പ്രാധാന്യമേറിയ ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിലൊന്നായ പാലിയം ക്ഷേത്രവും അതിന്റെ പരിസര പ്രദേശങ്ങളും സമൃദ്ധമായ ആചാരപരമ്പരകൾ സംരക്ഷിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.
മലയാളമാസം കുംഭത്തിലെ അമാവാസി ദിനത്തിന് ഏഴു ദിവസം മുമ്പ് ആരംഭിച്ച് അമാവാസി ദിവസം സമാപിക്കുന്ന രീതിയിലാണ് ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ വാർഷിക മഹോത്സവം നടക്കുന്നത്.
പാലിയം കോവിലകത്തിനും പാലിയം നാലുകെട്ടിനും സമീപത്തായി ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു. പ്രശസ്തമായ വൈക്കം മഹാദേവക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ വൈക്കത്തപ്പനാണ് ഇവിടെയും ആരാധിക്കപ്പെടുന്നതെന്ന് വിശ്വസിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൻറെ ഉത്ഭവവുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട ഐതിഹ്യം അനുസരിച്ച്, വൈക്കത്തപ്പന്റെ വിശ്വസ്തനായ പാലിയത്തച്ചൻ വാർദ്ധക്യത്തിൻറെ ബലഹീനതയാൽ കൂടിയും, വെള്ളപ്പൊക്കത്താൽ യാത്ര ചെയ്യാൻ സാധിക്കാത്ത സാഹചര്യത്തിലുമാണ് അതേ വർഷം വാർഷിക രാധനയ്ക്കായി വൈക്കം ക്ഷേത്രം സന്ദർശിക്കാനാവാതിരുന്നത്.
ഈ നിർബന്ധിത അവസ്ഥ മനസ്സിലാക്കിയ വൈക്കത്തപ്പൻ തന്റെ ഭക്തനായ പാലിയത്തച്ചന് ദർശനം നൽകി ഇവിടെ തന്നെ പ്രത്യക്ഷപ്പെട്ടതായി വിശ്വസിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു.
ഈ ദിവ്യ പ്രത്യക്ഷതയെ അനുസ്മരിച്ച് പാലിയം കൊട്ടാരത്തിനടുത്ത് തന്നെ ഒരു ക്ഷേത്രം നിർമ്മിക്കുകയുണ്ടായി, പിന്നീട് അത് പാലിയം പുതിയ തൃക്കോവ് ക്ഷേത്രം എന്നായി അറിയപ്പെട്ടു.
