Palliyarakkavu Bhagavathy Temple is an ancient and renowned temple located just 400 meters from Mattancherry in Kochi.
It holds deep historical and spiritual significance as the principal place of worship for the old Kochi royal family. Even today, the descendants of the royal family continue the tradition of visiting the temple on the first day of every Malayalam month.
Dedicated to the family deity of the Kochi royal lineage, the temple is situated near the Ariyittuvazhicha Kovil, the traditional coronation site of the Cochin kings. As part of the coronation ceremony, the newly crowned kings would visit the Palliyarakkavu Temple for prayers before returning to the Mattancherry Palace. The temple’s grand annual festival, Palliyarakkavilamma’s Thalappoli, is a vibrant five-day celebration held in the Malayalam month of Vrischikam.
Additionally, the Makarachovva festival in the month of Makaram and the Sarvaishwarya Pooja, performed for family well-being and prosperity, are observed with great devotion and traditional ceremonies, drawing devotees from far and wide.

പഴയ കൊച്ചി രാജകുടുംബത്തിൻറെ പ്രധാന ആരാധനാലയമായ പള്ളിയറക്കാവ് ഭഗവതി ക്ഷേത്രം, ഇന്നും അവിടുത്തെ പിൻമുറക്കാർ എല്ലാ മാസവും മലയാളവർഷം അനുസരിച്ച് ഒന്നാം തീയതി ദർശനത്തിനെത്തുന്ന വിശിഷ്ട ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിലൊന്നാണ്. കൊച്ചി മട്ടാഞ്ചേരിയിൽനിന്ന് 400 മീറ്റർ അകലെയായി സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം അതിമൂല്യമായ ചരിത്രവും ആചാരപരിപാടികളും നിറഞ്ഞതാണ്. കൊച്ചി രാജകുടുംബത്തിൻറെ കുടുംബദേവതയായ ഭഗവതിയെ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം, കൊച്ചിരാജാക്കന്മാരുടെ കിരീടധാരണ ചടങ്ങുകൾക്ക് വേണ്ടിയുള്ള പരമ്പരാഗത പുണ്യസ്ഥലമായ അരിയിട്ടുവാഴിച്ച കോവിലിന് സമീപത്താണ് സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നത്.
രാജാക്കന്മാർ കിരീടധാരണ ചടങ്ങ് പൂർത്തിയാക്കിയ ശേഷം, പള്ളിയറക്കാവ് ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ പ്രാർത്ഥന നടത്തി ഭഗവതിയുടെ അനുഗ്രഹം നേടിയാണ് മട്ടാഞ്ചേരി കൊട്ടാരത്തിലേക്ക് തിരികെ പോകുന്നത്.
വൃശ്ചികമാസത്തിൽ ആഘോഷിക്കുന്ന അഞ്ച് ദിവസത്തെ താലപ്പൊലി മഹോത്സവം ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന ഉത്സവമാണ്. കൂടാതെ, മകരമാസത്തിലെ മകരച്ചൊവ്വ മഹോത്സവവും കുടുംബ ഐശ്വര്യത്തിനും പുരോഗതിക്കുമായി നടത്തപ്പെടുന്ന സർവ്വൈശ്വര്യ പൂജയും ഭക്തിപൂർവം ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നു.
