Pavakkulam Sree Mahadeva Temple, one of the most popular temples in Ernakulam, is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Swayamvara Parvathi Devi as its main deities.
Hinduism believes in one Supreme God manifested in different forms, with Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva (Rudra) forming the fundamental aspects of existence.
Lord Shiva, a principal deity in Hinduism, is revered as the Supreme Being in Shaivism. He is known as the "destroyer of evil and the transformer" within the Trimurti, which also includes Brahma and Vishnu.
Goddess Parvathi, the consort of Lord Shiva, is regarded as the protector, destroyer of evil, and regenerator of the universe and all life. She is the daughter of Himavan, the king of mountains, and Queen Mena. Parvathi is also the mother of Hindu deities Ganesha and Karthikeya, and the Puranas mention her as the sister of Lord Vishnu and the river goddess Ganga.
In this temple, Lord Shiva is worshipped in the ‘Nataraja Bhavam,’ performing the ‘Thandava Nritham,’ a cosmic dance symbolizing his divine fury. The idol of Goddess Parvathi is positioned behind Shiva’s idol, signifying her role in calming his anger.
പാവക്കുളം ശ്രീ മഹാദേവ ക്ഷേത്രം
എറണാകുളം ജില്ലയിലെ കലൂരിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന സുപ്രസിദ്ധമായ ക്ഷേത്രമാണ് പാവക്കുളം ശ്രീ മഹാദേവക്ഷേത്രം. എറണാകുളം നോർത്ത് റെയിൽവേ സ്റ്റേഷനിൽ നിന്ന് ഏകദേശം 2 കിലോമീറ്റർ യാത്ര ചെയ്താൽ കലൂർ ജംഗ്ഷനിലെത്താം. അവിടുനിന്ന് പേരണ്ടൂർക്കുള്ള റോഡിലാണ് ഈ ഭക്തിസാന്ത്രമായ ദേവാലയം നിലകൊള്ളുന്നത്.ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന പ്രതിഷ്ഠകൾ ശിവനും പാർവ്വതിയുമാണ്. ശിവൻ നടരാജ ഭാവത്തിൽ താണ്ഡവ നൃത്തം ചെയ്യുന്ന രൂപത്തിലാണ് പ്രതിഷ്ഠിതനായിരിക്കുന്നത്.
കിഴക്കോട്ട് അഭിമുഖമായ മഹാദേവനെ ശാന്തസ്വരൂപനാക്കുന്നതിനായി, സ്വയംവരത്തിന് തയ്യാറായി വലതു കൈയിൽ മാല പിടിച്ചുനിൽക്കുന്ന ഭാവത്തിലാണ് പാർവ്വതി ദേവിയെ ശിവലിംഗത്തിന് പിന്നിൽ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്. മഹാദേവന്റെ വാഹനം നന്ദി (ഋഷഭം, കാള) ദേവന് അഭിമുഖമായാണ് പ്രതിഷ്ഠിതമായിരിക്കുന്നത്. ശിവലിംഗത്തിന് പിന്നിൽ തെളിയുന്ന ഒരു കെടാവിളക്കുമുണ്ട്. ഈ ദീപം നെയ്യ് മാത്രം ഉപയോഗിച്ച് കത്തിക്കാനുള്ളതാണ്, അതിനാൽ അതിന് അതിപ്രധാനമായ വിശേഷതയുണ്ട്.
ശിവനെ പ്രീതിപ്പെടുത്തുന്നതിനുള്ള ഏറ്റവും പ്രധാനപ്പെട്ട വഴിപാടുകളിലൊന്നായി ഈ നെയ്യ് വിളക്ക് വിശേഷിച്ചാണ് കണക്കാക്കപ്പെടുന്നത്.ധനുമാസത്തിലെ തിരുവാതിരയോടനുബന്ധിച്ചുള്ള കൊടിയേറ്റുത്സവം, കുംഭമാസത്തിലെ മഹാശിവരാത്രി, മേടമാസത്തിലെ പൗർണ്ണമി പൊങ്കാല എന്നിവയാണ് പാവക്കുളം മഹാദേവക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന വിശേഷദിവസങ്ങൾ.
ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ ഉപദേവതകളായി ഗണപതി, ദക്ഷിണാമൂർത്തി, അയ്യപ്പൻ, സുബ്രഹ്മണ്യൻ, ഭദ്രകാളി, സർപ്പദേവതകൾ, ബ്രഹ്മരക്ഷസ്സ് എന്നിവയുടെ സന്നിധിയുമുണ്ട്.
ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ ഭരണ ചുമതല വിശ്വ ഹിന്ദു പരിഷത്തിൻറെ കീഴിലാണ്.
