Elamakkara Perandoor Bhagavathi Temple, located at Elamakkara (Chambady Rd, Punnakkal) in Kochi, Ernakulam district, Kerala, is a revered shrine dedicated to Goddess Durga and is one among the 108 Durga temples in Kerala.
Perandoor Durga Bhagavathi is the Kula Devatha (family deity) of many families in the region. The temple, built in traditional Kerala architectural style, features two entrances, a two-tiered chathura sreekovil (square sanctum), a massive banyan tree, and a temple pond, all enhancing the spiritual ambiance.
The darshanam of the main deity faces east, and the upa devatas include Ganapathy, Shiva, Ayyappa, Yakshi, and Nagas.
Historically, the temple belonged to the Edappally Swaroopam and is now managed by the NSS. According to legend, a ruler from Edappally Swaroopam had a divine vision while attending a festival near Cherthala, where Goddess Bhagavathy appeared in his dream and instructed him to place her next to Ganapathy, the family deity of Edappally Swaroopam.
She also revealed the hidden location of her murti (idol). When the king retrieved the murti and carried it towards his palace, it accidentally slipped from his hands and became immovable at that spot. Upon consulting elders and astrologers, it was revealed that the location was already home to an ancient Durga temple consecrated by Sage Parashurama. This led to the construction of the Perandoor Bhagavathi Temple.
Apart from the grand 8-day annual festival in the Malayalam month of Medam (April-May), which concludes with the arattu ceremony on Uthram nakshatra day, the temple also celebrates Navratri with Vidyarambham, Thrikarthika festival, and Makam Thozhal with great devotion.
പേരണ്ടൂർ ശ്രീ ഭഗവതി ക്ഷേത്രം
എറണാകുളം നോർത്ത് റെയിൽവേ സ്റ്റേഷനിൽ നിന്ന് ഏകദേശം 4.5 കിലോമീറ്റർ ദൂരത്ത് ഇളമക്കര പേരണ്ടൂരിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന പ്രശസ്ത ദേവീക്ഷേത്രമാണ് പേരണ്ടൂർ ശ്രീ ഭഗവതി ക്ഷേത്രം. പരശുരാമൻ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ച 108 ദുർഗാക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നായ ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന് വേദകാലത്തോളം ഐതീഹ്യപ്പെരുമയും നൂറ്റാണ്ടുകൾ നീണ്ടു നിന്ന ചരിത്രവുമുണ്ട്.
പേരണ്ടൂർ ഭഗവതി സർവ്വാലങ്കാര വിഭൂഷിതയായി, ചതുർബാഹു രൂപത്തിൽ, വലതുഭാഗത്ത് ചക്രവും ഇടത് ഭുജത്തിൽ ശംഖും, അധോബാഹുക്കളിൽ വലതുകൈയ്യിൽ വരമുദ്രയും ഇടത് കൈയിൽ കടിബന്ധവുമായി ഭക്തജനങ്ങൾക്ക് സർവ്വാഭീഷ്ടങ്ങൾ നല്കുന്ന ശ്രീ പേരണ്ടൂരമ്മ ഇവിടെ വിരാജിക്കുന്നു.
ഇടപ്പള്ളി തമ്പുരാൻ തൃക്കുന്നപ്പുഴ ശാസ്താക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ നിന്നു ഭഗവതിയുടെയും ഗണപതിയുടെയും വിഗ്രഹങ്ങൾ തോണി മാർഗം ഇടപ്പള്ളി സ്വരൂപത്തിലേക്ക് കൊണ്ടുപോകുന്നതിനിടെ, ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൻറെ പടിഞ്ഞാറുഭാഗത്ത് സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന പള്ളിയോടപ്പുരയിൽ തോണി അടുപ്പിക്കുകയും അവിടെ നിന്ന് ഇടപ്പള്ളി കൊട്ടാരത്തിലേക്ക് പോകുന്ന വഴിമധ്യേ ഭഗവതി വിഗ്രഹം തമ്പുരാന്റെ കൈയിൽ നിന്ന് പൂഴിയിൽ വീണു പുതയുകയും ചെയ്തു.
ഈ ദിവ്യസംഭവം തമ്പുരാനെ വളരെയധികം ദുർഖിതനാക്കി. പ്രശ്നം നോക്കിയപ്പോൾ ദേവിക്ക് ഇവിടെ തന്നെയാണ് കുടികൊള്ളാൻ താൽപ്പര്യമെന്ന് വ്യക്തമായി. അതിനനുസരിച്ച് രാജപൗഢി അനുസരിച്ച് ക്ഷേത്രം പണികഴിപ്പിച്ചു ഭഗവതിയെ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചു.
വിഗ്രഹം പൂഴിയിൽ വീണു പിരണ്ടുപോയതിനാൽ ഈ സ്ഥലം ആദ്യം പുരണ്ടിയൂർ എന്നറിയപ്പെടുകയും പിന്നീട് പേരണ്ടിയൂർ എന്നായി മാറിയെന്നും വിശ്വസിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. പേരണ്ടൂർ ഭഗവതി ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന ഉത്സവങ്ങൾ ആയി വൃശ്ചിക മാസത്തിലെ തൃക്കാർത്തിക മഹോത്സവം ഭക്തജനങ്ങളുടെ വലിയ പങ്കാളിത്തത്തോടെ ആഘോഷിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു.
മേടമാസത്തിലെ ഉത്രം നക്ഷത്രദിനത്തിൽ ആറാട്ടോടെ സമാപിക്കുന്ന വാർഷികോത്സവം മഹത്തായ ആചാരസമ്പന്നതയോടെയാണ് നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നത്. ചോറ്റാനിക്കര ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ മകം തൊഴൽ ദിവസം, ഒരിക്കൽ പേരണ്ടൂർ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലും അഗ്നിബാധ ഉണ്ടായതായി വിശ്വസിക്കപ്പെടുന്നതിനാൽ, അതിനുശേഷം ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലും മകം തൊഴൽ ഉത്സവം ഉത്സവതുല്യമായി ആചാരപരമായി ആഘോഷിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. കേരളത്തിലെ പ്രാചീനവും മഹത്വമുള്ളതുമായ ദേവീക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നായ പേരണ്ടൂർ ഭഗവതി ക്ഷേത്രം, ഭക്തജനങ്ങൾക്കായി ആശ്രയത്തിന്റെയും അനുഗ്രഹത്തിന്റെയും പുണ്യസ്ഥലമായി നിലകൊള്ളുന്നു.
