Sri Bhavaneeswara Temple is a prominent Shiva temple located in Palluruthy, Ernakulam district, Kerala. The main deity of the temple is Lord Shiva, worshipped as Sri Bhavaneeswaran.
The temple was consecrated by Sree Narayana Guru in 1904 as part of the social reform movement in Kerala.
Apart from Lord Shiva, the temple also enshrines several other deities, including Goddess Parvati (Sri Bhavaneeswari), Lord Ganapati, Lord Subrahmanyan, Lord Ayyappan, Adbhuta Yakshi, Naga deities, Bhagwati, Brahmarakshas, and the Navagrahas. Sree Narayana Guru himself is also venerated in the temple.
The temple's annual festival is an 11-day-long grand celebration, beginning with the Bharani star in the Malayalam month of Kumbham (Aquarius). A major highlight of the festival is the participation of 15 elephants, with a competitive procession between the northern and southern sides. The temple is also famous for hosting the Maha Gaja Mela, a grand elephant festival that once featured 108 elephants—the largest such gathering in Ernakulam district.
ശ്രീ ഭവാനീശ്വര മഹാക്ഷേത്രം, പള്ളുരുത്തി
എറണാകുളം ജില്ലയിലെ കൊച്ചിയിൽ പള്ളുരുത്തിയിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ഒരു പ്രശസ്തമായ ശിവക്ഷേത്രമാണ് ശ്രീ ഭവാനീശ്വര ക്ഷേത്രം. ശ്രീനാരായണ ഗുരുവിൻറെ ആശയപ്രചാരണങ്ങളുടെ ഭാഗമായി 1903-ൽ രൂപീകരിച്ച "ശ്രീ ധർമ്മ പരിപാലന യോഗം (S.D.P.Y.)" മുഖേന ഗുരുവിൻറെ നിർദ്ദേശപ്രകാരം ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം പണിതുവെന്നും 1904-ൽ ശ്രീനാരായണ ഗുരു ശിവലിംഗ പ്രതിഷ്ഠ നടത്തി എന്നതും ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ മഹത്വം വർധിപ്പിക്കുന്നു.
1998-ൽ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന് സമീപം സ്വർണ്ണകൊടിമരം (സ്വർണ്ണ ധ്വജം) സ്ഥാപിച്ചപ്പോൾ, അതിന്റെ ഭംഗിയും പവിത്രതയും കൂടുതൽ ഉയർന്നു. ഇപ്പോൾ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ ഭരണച്ചുമതല എസ്.എൻ.ഡി.പി. യോഗത്തിനാണ്. അതോടൊപ്പം നിരവധി വിദ്യാഭാസ സ്ഥാപനങ്ങളും എസ്.ഡി.പി.വൈ.യുടെ നിയന്ത്രണത്തിൽ പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്നു.
ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ മുഖ്യ പ്രതിഷ്ഠ പരമശിവനായ ശ്രീ ഭവാനീശ്വരൻ ആയിരിക്കും. കൂടാതെ, പാർവതി ദേവി (ശ്രീ ഭവാനീശ്വരി), ഗണപതി, സുബ്രഹ്മണ്യൻ, അയ്യപ്പൻ എന്നിവരും ഒരുമിച്ച് വാഴുന്ന ദേവാലയമാണ് ശ്രീ ഭവാനീശ്വര ക്ഷേത്രം.
ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ ഉത്സവം കുംഭ മാസത്തിലെ ഭരണി നക്ഷത്രത്തിൽ കൊടിയേറി 11 ദിവസം നീളുന്ന മഹോത്സവമായി ആഘോഷിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. ഈ ഉത്സവദിനങ്ങളിൽ 15 ആനകളുടെ എഴുന്നള്ളിപ്പും മറ്റ് വൈഭവങ്ങളുമാണ് പ്രധാന ആകർഷണങ്ങൾ.
വടക്കും തെക്കും ഭാഗങ്ങൾ തമ്മിൽ മത്സരിച്ച് നടക്കുന്ന കാവടി ഉത്സവം വിശേഷാൽ ആകർഷണമാണ്. ഇത് വളരെ വിപുലമായാണ് ഓരോ വർഷവും സംഘടിപ്പിക്കപ്പെടുന്നത്.
2004-ൽ ശ്രീ ധർമ്മ പരിപാലന യോഗത്തിന്റെ ശതാബ്ദി ആഘോഷങ്ങളുടെ ഭാഗമായി ഭവാനീശ്വര ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ ഒരു കോടി അർച്ചനയും 108 ആനകളെ പങ്കെടുപ്പിച്ച മഹാ ഗജമേളയും നടന്നു. ഇത് എറണാകുളം ജില്ലയിൽ ഏറ്റവും കൂടുതൽ ആനകൾ പങ്കെടുത്ത വലിയ ആഘോഷമായിരുന്നു. പശ്ചിമ കൊച്ചിയിൽ ജനപങ്കാളിത്തം ഏറ്റവുമധികം ഉണ്ടായ വലിയ ഉത്സവങ്ങളിലൊന്നായിരുന്നു ഈ മഹോത്സവം.
