Thamaramkulangara Sree Dharma Sastha Temple is one of the most prominent temples in Tripunithura, located in Ernakulam District.
Dedicated to Lord Ayyappa, worshipped here as Dharmasastha, this temple is considered an extension of the famous Sastha Temple at Chamravattom in Malappuram District. According to legend, Lord Sastha of Chamravattom followed a priest from Morakkala Mana who had relocated to Tripunithura. The deity is believed to have taken the form of a lizard and traveled with the priest by sitting comfortably on his traditional palm-leaf umbrella.
Thamaramkulangara Sree Dharmasastha is also considered an incarnation of Lord Dhanvantari, making it the only temple in Tripunithura where Dharmasastha is the main deity. Along with Dharmasastha, devotees also worship Lord Ganesha, Goddess Bhadrakali, Nagaraja, and Brahmarakshas within the temple complex.Upon entering the temple, visitors are welcomed by a majestic banyan tree that offers shade and a soothing breeze with its gently swaying leaves. A well-maintained fresh water pond, covering more than one-third of the temple precinct, adds to the serenity of the surroundings. The temple also features a traditional Nadappura and a flag post, enhancing its architectural beauty. The temple's chief priest (Thanthri) is Brahmasri Puliyannur Rahul Narayanan Nambuthirippad. Painguni Uthram, celebrated on the Uthram star in the month of Meenam as per the Malayalam calendar, marks the birthday of Lord Sree Dharmasastha. Vishu, observed on the first day of Medam, is celebrated with the Maha Ganapathy Homam.
On the last day of Karkidakam, the temple is beautifully adorned with flowers and traditional oil lamps for Karkidaka Niramala. Navaratri festivities take place during Durgashtami, Mahanavami, and Vijayadasami, featuring cultural programs that enhance devotion. Vidyarambham, the sacred initiation into learning, is conducted on Vijayadasami, as it is considered highly auspicious to perform it before Lord Sree Dharmasastha. Mandalavilakku is celebrated on the 41st day of Mandalakaalam, which begins on the first day of Vrischikam. This event marks the conclusion of the Mandala Vratham, a significant ritual before visiting the sacred Sabarimala temple. Sasthaam Paattu, also known as Ayyappan Paattu, is a traditional musical art form from central Kerala, where devotional songs in praise of Lord Ayyappa are sung to the rhythmic beats of the ‘Udukku,’ a unique percussion instrument.
A special song narrating the birth of Lord Ayyappa is the highlight of this performance.
At Thamaramkulangara, Sasthaam Paattu is performed on the first Saturday of Vrischikam. On the same day, Annadhaanam is organized by devotees and TASS volunteers, offering a special meal to all attendees, making it a widely cherished tradition.
താമരംകുളങ്ങര ശ്രീ ധർമ്മശാസ്താ ക്ഷേത്രം
എറണാകുളം ജില്ലയിലെ തൃപ്പൂണിത്തുറയിൽ നിന്ന് ഏകദേശം 1.2 കിലോമീറ്റർ അകലെയുള്ള പ്രസിദ്ധമായ ഒരു ക്ഷേത്രമാണ് താമരംകുളങ്ങര ശ്രീ ധർമ്മശാസ്താ ക്ഷേത്രം. തൃപ്പൂണിത്തുറയിലെ ഏറ്റവും പ്രധാനപ്പെട്ട ആരാധനാലയങ്ങളിലൊന്നായി കണക്കാക്കപ്പെടുന്ന ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ ധർമ്മശാസ്താവായി അയ്യപ്പ ഭഗവാനാണ് പ്രധാന പ്രതിഷ്ഠ.
ഐതിഹ്യമനുസരിച്ച്, ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രതിഷ്ഠ മലപ്പുറം ജില്ലയിലെ ചമ്രവട്ടം ശ്രീ ധർമ്മശാസ്താ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ നിന്നാണെന്ന് വിശ്വസിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. പണ്ടൊരിക്കൽ, ചമ്രവട്ടത്തു നിന്ന് തൃപ്പൂണിത്തുറയിലേക്ക് താമസം മാറ്റിയ മൊറക്കാല മനയിലെ തിരുമേനിയോടൊപ്പം ധർമ്മശാസ്താവും വന്നുവെന്നതാണ് കഥ. ധർമ്മ ശാസ്താവ് പല്ലിയുടെ രൂപമെടുത്ത് പനയോല കൊണ്ട് നിർമ്മിച്ച പരമ്പരാഗത കുടക്കീഴിൽ സുഖമായി ഇരുന്നായിരുന്നു യാത്ര ചെയ്തത്. തിരുമേനി ഇവിടെ പൂജകൾ ആരംഭിച്ചപ്പോൾ തന്നെ പ്രദേശത്ത് ആത്മീയമായ മാറ്റങ്ങൾ അനുഭവപ്പെട്ടു.
ഇതോടെ, ഈ ദേവത തന്നെ ചമ്രവട്ടത്തിലെ ശാസ്താവാണെന്ന് സങ്കല്പിച്ച് ഇവിടെയും ഭക്തർ പൂജ ആരംഭിച്ചു. ആദ്യം ക്ഷേത്രം മൊറക്കാല മനയുടെ കീഴിലായിരുന്നു, എന്നാൽ കുടുംബത്തിന്റെ കാര്യസ്ഥിതി മോശമായതോടെ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ നിത്യേന പൂജകളും ചടങ്ങുകളും തടസ്സപ്പെട്ടു. അവസ്ഥ ഗൗരവമായതോടെ, തിരുമേനി കൊച്ചി മഹാരാജാവിനെ സമീപിക്കുകയും 1930-കളിൽ ക്ഷേത്രം അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് കൈമാറുകയും ചെയ്തു. രാജാവ് ക്ഷേത്രം നവീകരിക്കാനും നിത്യ നിതാനത്തിനായി ധനസഹായം നൽകാനും നിർദ്ദേശിച്ചു.
ഇതിനൊപ്പം, നടുമിറ്റം ദേവസ്വം ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ നിയന്ത്രണവും മേൽനോട്ടവും ഏറ്റെടുത്തു, അതിനുശേഷം ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ ആരാധനാ ക്രമങ്ങൾ വീണ്ടും പൂർത്തിയാക്കി. താമരംകുളങ്ങര ശ്രീ ധർമ്മശാസ്താ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന ഉത്സവമായ മകരവിളക്ക് ജനുവരി മാസത്തിൽ, മകരമാസത്തിലെ ആദ്യ ദിവസം ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നു. ക്ഷേത്ര പരിസരത്തിൻറെ ചൈതന്യം നിലനിർത്തുന്നതിനായി താമരംകുളങ്ങര അയ്യപ്പ സേവാസമിതി മകരവിളക്കിനോട് അനുബന്ധിച്ചുള്ള വിവിധ പരിപാടികൾ സംഘടിപ്പിക്കുന്നു.
മകരവിളക്കിന് അഞ്ച് ദിവസം മുമ്പ് ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ തന്ത്രി കൊടി ഉയർത്തുന്നതോടെ ആറു ദിവസത്തെ ഉത്സവം ആരംഭിക്കുന്നു. മകരവിളക്കിനൊപ്പം ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ ധ്വജ പ്രതിഷ്ഠ ദിനം (മീനമാസം 14), പൈങ്കുനി ഉത്രം (ശ്രീ ധർമ്മശാസ്താവിൻറെ ജന്മദിനം), വിഷു (മേടം 1, മഹാ ഗണപതി ഹോമത്തോടെ), കർക്കിടക നിറമാല (കർക്കിടക മാസത്തിലെ അവസാന ദിവസം), നവരാത്രി (ദുർഗാഷ്ടമി, മഹാനവമി, വിജയദശമി ദിവസങ്ങളിൽ സാംസ്കാരിക പരിപാടികളോടുകൂടിയുള്ള ആഘോഷം, വിദ്യാരംഭം), മണ്ഡലവിളക്ക് (മണ്ഡലകാലത്തിൻറെ 41-ാം ദിവസം), ശാസ്താം പാട്ട് (വൃശ്ചികത്തിലെ ആദ്യ ശനിയാഴ്ച, 'ഉടുക്ക്' താളവാദ്യത്തോടെ അയ്യപ്പനെ സ്തുതിക്കുന്ന ഗാനങ്ങൾ) എന്നിവയും ഭക്തി നിറച്ച ആചാരങ്ങളോടുകൂടി ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നു. ശാസ്താം പാട്ടിന് പിന്നാലെ ഭക്തരും TASS വളണ്ടിയർമാരും ചേർന്ന് വിഭവസമൃദ്ധമായ അന്നദാനം നടത്തുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു, ഇത് അതുല്യമായതും ജനപ്രിയവുമായ ആഘോഷം ആണ്.
