Valanjambalam Devi Temple, located in the heart of Ernakulam city, Kerala, is dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathi – Durga.
Also known as Perumanoor Kavu, the temple hosts its annual Thalappoli festival in the Malayalam month of Makaram (January – February). During the festival, the shrine is beautifully adorned with plantain, coconut leaves, flowers, traditional lamps, and lights. The most significant ritual is Ezhunnallathu, the grand procession of the temple deity atop an elephant, accompanied by traditional temple music.
Another important ritual during the festival is Vilakku (the sacred lamp ceremony). The celebrations also feature traditional performing arts, dance, and music. The temple also houses Upa Devatas, including Lord Shiva and Lord Ganapati.
വളഞ്ഞമ്പലം ദേവി ക്ഷേത്രം
എറണാകുളം സൗത്ത് റെയിൽവേ സ്റ്റേഷനിൽ നിന്ന് കടവന്ത്ര ഭാഗത്തേക്ക് പോകുന്ന ചിറ്റൂർ റോഡിലാണ് വളഞ്ഞമ്പലം ദേവി ക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്നത്. ഒരിടകാലത്ത് പെരുമാനൂർ കാവ് എന്നറിയപ്പെട്ടിരുന്ന ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം പിന്നീട് നവീകരണം നടത്തി ദേവീ ക്ഷേത്രമായി മാറി. ക്ഷേത്രം റോഡിന്റെ വളവിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നതിനാൽ പിന്നീട് ഈ സ്ഥലത്തിന് "വളഞ്ഞമ്പലം" എന്ന പേരായെന്ന് കരുതപ്പെടുന്നു.
നഗരത്തിലെ ഏറ്റവും പുരാതനവും പ്രശസ്തവുമായ ഈ ദേവീക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ ആണ്ടുതോറും നടന്നുവരുന്ന താലപ്പൊലി മഹോത്സവം വളരെ പ്രസിദ്ധമാണ്. രണ്ടുദിവസം നീണ്ടുനിൽക്കുന്ന ഈ ഉത്സവത്തിൽ ദേവി ആനപ്പുറത്തു എഴുന്നള്ളുന്ന ദൃശ്യമാണ് പ്രധാന ആകർഷണം.
ഈ അവസരത്തിൽ ക്ഷേത്രം പൂക്കൾ, പരമ്പരാഗത വിളക്കുകൾ, തെങ്ങിൻ കുരുത്തോല എന്നിവ കൊണ്ട് മനോഹരമായി അലങ്കരിക്കുന്നു.ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ വിഗ്രഹത്തിനുള്ള ആചാരപരമായ ഘോഷയാത്രയായ ഏഴുന്നള്ളത്ത് ഈ ഉത്സവത്തിന്റെ പ്രധാന ഭാഗമാണ്. സമൃദ്ധിയുടെ പ്രതീകമായ താലവുമേന്തി നിരവധി സ്ത്രീകളും കുട്ടികളും ഈ ഉത്സവത്തിൽ പങ്കെടുക്കുന്നു.
