Amaramkavu is a revered sacred grove and Hindu temple dedicated to Goddess VanaDurga, located in Kolani within the Thodupuzha Municipality of the Idukki district in Kerala.
Amaramkavu spans nearly 3 acres and is abundant in biodiversity. This sacred site venerates nature as a deity, enveloped by the Harithabha and characterized by towering trees, vines, and dense undergrowth. The trees within the Kavu serve as sub-deities.
Vanadurga is revered as Bhagavathy, the idol of worship for the Dravidian communities that inhabited the forests in ancient times, later embraced by the Shakteis and ultimately the Hindus. It is thought to represent Adiparashakti, a spirit of the forest. Devotees believe that worshiping Bhagwati alleviates sorrows and brings forth blessings.
In numerous Vanadurga temples, the sanctum sanctorum of Bhagwati is open to the elements, allowing sunlight, rain, and snow to reach the shrine directly. This form of worship can also be observed in certain Kavus. Historically, Vanadurga was honored as part of Urvaratapuja.
The principal festival celebrated at this temple is Meenapuram, with the primary offering being Valiyapayasam. Additionally, a significant ceremony held at this temple is the Great Guruti. The sub-deities worshipped here include Ailayakshi, Anthimahakalan, Ghandakarna, Shastavu, Durga, and Bhadrakali.
അമരംകാവ് ദേവീ ക്ഷേത്രം, കോലാനി
ഇടുക്കി ജില്ലയിൽ തൊടുപുഴയിൽ നിന്ന് നാല് കിലോമീറ്റർ അകലെ കോലാനിയിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന അമരംകാവ് എന്ന കാവം, വനദുർഗ്ഗമായ പ്രധാന മൂർത്തിയോടുകൂടിയാണ്. ഇടുക്കി ജില്ലയിലെ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ പുണ്യഭൂമിയായ അമരംകാവ്, കടുത്ത വേനലിലും പച്ചപ്പിന്റെ ഊഷ്മളതയും ജലസമ്പത്തും നിറഞ്ഞ ഒരു ചെറുവനമാണ്. കേന്ദ്രസർക്കാർ കേരളത്തിന്റെ പൈതൃക സ്വത്തായി കണക്കാക്കിയ 28 കാവുകളിൽ ഒന്നാണ് ഇത്.
തിരുനാവായ്ക്കടുത്തുള്ള ആഴ്വാഞ്ചേരി തമ്പ്രാക്കളുടെ ഉടമസ്ഥതയിലുള്ള ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം, ദേവിയുടെ ശക്തമായ സാന്നിധ്യം അനുഭവപ്പെടുന്ന സ്ഥലമാണ്. ദേവിയുടെ മൂലസ്ഥാനമായി ഒരു പാട്ടമ്പലവും ഇവിടെ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു, അവിടെ ദേവിയുടെ വാളും ചിലമ്പും സൂക്ഷിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. നൂറ്റാണ്ടുകളുടെ പഴക്കമുള്ള കാവ് ഏകദേശം മൂന്ന് ഏക്കറുകൾ വിസ്തൃതിയിലാണ്. അമരംകാവ് ജൈവവൈവിധ്യത്തിൽ സമൃദ്ധമാണ്.
വൻമരങ്ങളും വള്ളികളും അടിക്കാടും പടർന്നിരിക്കുന്ന ഹരിതാഭത്തിൽ പ്രകൃതിയെ ദേവതയായി ആരാധിക്കുന്ന ഒരു കോവിലാണിത്. കാവിലെ മരങ്ങൾ ഇവിടെ ഉപദേവതകളായി കണക്കാക്കപ്പെടുന്നു.ശ്രീ പാർവ്വതിയുടെ ഒരു രൂപമാണ് വനദുർഗ്ഗ. പരമശിവനെ ഭർത്താവായി നേടാൻ പാർവതീദേവി വെയിലും മഴയും മഞ്ഞും ഏറ്റുവാങ്ങി വനത്തിൽ തപസ്സു നടത്തി, പഞ്ചഭൂതങ്ങളെ ആകാശം, വായു, അഗ്നി, ജലം, പൃഥ്വി എന്നിവയിലേക്ക് അവാഹനം ചെയ്തു. അതിനാൽ പരാശക്തിയെ വനദുർഗ്ഗ രൂപത്തിൽ ആരാധിക്കുന്നു.
പല വനദുർഗ ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിലും ഭഗവതിയുടെ ശ്രീകോവിലിന് മേൽക്കൂര ഉണ്ടാകാറില്ല. പ്രകൃതിയുടെ വിവിധ പ്രതിഭാസങ്ങൾ നേരിട്ട് പ്രതിഷ്ഠയിലേക്ക് എത്താൻ വേണ്ടി ആണിതെന്ന് വിശ്വസിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. ചില കാവുകളിലും ഇത്തരത്തിലുള്ള പ്രതിഷ്ഠകൾ കാണപ്പെടുന്നു. പ്രാചീന കാലത്ത് ഊർവ്വരതാപൂജയുടെ ഭാഗമായും വനദുർഗിനെ ആരാധിച്ചിരുന്നു. പ്രകൃതീമാതാവായും വനദുർഗിനെ കണക്കാക്കിയിരുന്നു.
ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന ഉത്സവം മീനപ്പൂരമാണ്. ഇവിടെ പ്രധാനമായും വലിയ പായാസം സമർപ്പിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ മറ്റൊരു പ്രധാന ചടങ്ങാണ് വലിയ ഗുരുതി. ഉപദേവതകൾ: ഐലയക്ഷി, അന്തിമഹാകാളൻ, ഘണ്ഡാകർണ്ണൻ, ശാസ്താവ്, ദുർഗ്ഗ, ഭദ്രകാളി. മണ്ഡലകാലത്ത് 41 ദിവസങ്ങൾക്കുള്ളിൽ മാത്രമാണ് രണ്ടുനേരം പൂജകൾ നടത്തുന്നത്.
