Panchalimedu is a hill station and observation point located near Kuttikkanam in the Peerumedu tehsil of the Idukki district.
Shivalinga, accompanied by the shrine of Bhuvaneswari Devi, is located at Panchalimedu. According to local legends, the Pandavas, along with their wife Panchali, visited this site during their one-year period of exile. Consequently, the name Panchalimedu is derived from "Panchali" (Draupadi) and "medu" (hill).
The indigenous tribes in the area provided generous assistance to the Kuru princes. The Pandavas departed from the region before the completion of their incognito year. In gratitude for the tribes' support, they gifted an idol of Goddess Durga to the tribal chief and instructed them to venerate the Devi. However, unforeseen events transpired when the tribes conducted their worship rituals in a manner that was deemed uncivilized.
As a result, the area became uninhabitable for them. Eventually, the Devi relocated to the current Valliyamkavu region, where she continues to preside. In accordance with this legend, the local populace maintains the belief that Panchalimedu serves as the moola sthana, or sacred sanctum, of the Devi. Panchalikulam, known as the pond of Panchali, is traditionally attributed to the construction by the Pandavas. Currently, a modest temple dedicated to Goddess Bhuvaneswari is accessible via a walkway from the main road.
This temple, which previously did not host daily rituals, is now managed by the Travancore Devaswom Board. The granite inscriptions discovered at the site highlight its connection to ancient history. Numerous Shiva lingas, Trishulas (tridents), and Nāga idols are positioned near the shrine. The small circular pond, referred to as Panchalikulam, is where the Pandavas and Panchali are said to have bathed daily; it measures approximately 5 dm (20 in) in diameter and remains filled with water even during the hottest summer months.
Additionally, there exists a cave known as Pandavaguha, or the cave of the Pandavas, where the footprints of Bhima are believed to be found. Local residents maintain that these footprints belong to the formidable Bhima himself.

എന്നാൽ, ഗോത്രക്കാർ അവരുടെ പരമ്പരാഗത പൂജാ രീതികൾ പിന്തുടർന്ന് ദേവിയെ ആരാധിച്ചപ്പോൾ, അപ്രതീക്ഷിത സംഭവങ്ങൾ സംഭവിച്ചു. ഇതിന്റെ ഫലമായി, ഈ സ്ഥലം അവരുടെ വാസത്തിനായി അനുയോജ്യമല്ലാതായി. പാഞ്ചാലിക്കുളം എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്ന ഒരു ചെറിയ വൃത്താകൃതിയിലുള്ള കുളം അവിടെ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു, ഇത് പാണ്ഡവരുടെ കുളിക്കളമായിരുന്നു എന്ന് വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നു. കൊടും വേനലിലും ഈ കുളം ധാരാളം വെള്ളം നിറഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു.
ഭീമന്റെ കാൽപ്പാടുകൾ കാണാൻ കഴിയുന്ന പാണ്ഡവഗുഹ എന്ന പേരിലുള്ള ഒരു ഗുഹയും ഇവിടെ ഉണ്ട്. ശക്തനായ ഭീമസേനന്റെ കാൽപ്പാടുകളാണിതെന്ന് വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നു.
ശ്രീ ഭുവനേശ്വരി ദേവി ആദി പരശക്തി അല്ലെങ്കിൽ പാർവതി എന്ന പേരിൽ അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു, ഇത് ശക്തിയുടെ ആദ്യകാല രൂപങ്ങളിലൊന്നാണ്. ത്രിയംബകൻ (ഭുവനേശ്വരൻ) ആയ ശിവനാണ് ഭർത്താവ്.
