Thayyakkavu Bhagavathi Temple serves as a revered sanctuary, home to the ancient goddess Bhadrakali, situated in the valley of the Western Ghats, where she protects the divine essence.
Situated eight kilometers from Thodupuzha along the Moolamattam route, this remarkable temple boasts a rich history and significant cultural heritage. For nearly a millennium, it was under the ownership of the King of Vadakkumkur, subsequently passing to the Eda nobles and later to a Brahmin family known as Kadamaruk Mana.
In the 1300s, a sculptor named Manikyan was commissioned to reside in the temple sanctuary for a month, during which he crafted the idol and conducted the consecration and kalasha rituals simultaneously at this temple and the Thrikaya Srikrishna Swamy temple. Tragically, within a year, both the tantri and the sculptor passed away, and the temple suffered a fire. Following renovations, the Chutambalam and Balikalppura were constructed. The temple endured two additional fires, and the current shrine was established after these incidents.

പശ്ചിമഘട്ടത്തിന്റെ താഴ്വരയിൽ ദൈവിക ചൈതന്യം സംരക്ഷിക്കുന്ന ആദിപരാശക്തിയായ ഭദ്രകാളിദേവി വാസം ചെയ്യുന്ന പുണ്യ സങ്കേതമാണ് മുട്ടം തായക്കാവ് ഭഗവതി ക്ഷേത്രം. തൊടുപുഴയിൽ നിന്നും മൂലമറ്റം റൂട്ടിൽ എട്ടു കിലോമീറ്റർ അകലെയായി സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ഈ മഹാക്ഷേത്രം കാലത്തിന്റെ കടലാസ്സിൽ പതിഞ്ഞ ചരിത്രമാഹത്മ്യത്താൽ പ്രശസ്തമാണ്.
ആയിരത്തോളം വർഷങ്ങളോളം വടക്കുംക്കൂർ രാജാവിന്റെ ഉടമസ്ഥതയിലായിരുന്ന ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം പിന്നീട് ഇടപ്രഭുക്കന്മാരുടെയും, പിന്നീട് കാടമറുക് മന എന്ന ബ്രാഹ്മണ കുടുംബത്തിൻറെയും ഉടമസ്ഥതയിലുമായി. മാണിക്യൻ എന്ന ശില്പ്പിയെ ആയിരത്തിയോരുന്നൂറുകളിൽ ഒരു മാസം ക്ഷേത്ര സങ്കേതത്തിൽ താമസിപ്പിച്ച് ബിംബം കൊത്തുകയും, പിന്നീട് തൃക്കയ്യ ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണസ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലും ഒരേ സമയം പ്രതിഷ്ഠയും കലശവും നടത്തുകയും ചെയ്തു.
ഒരു വർഷത്തിനുള്ളിൽ തന്ത്രിയും ശില്പിയും മരണപ്പെടുകയും, ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ തീ പിടിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. തുടർന്ന് പുനരുത്ഥാന പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങളും ചുറ്റമ്പലങ്ങളും ബാലിക്കല്പ്പുരവും നിർമ്മിച്ചു. പിന്നീട്, ക്ഷേത്രം രണ്ടുതവണ കൂടി അഗ്നിക്കിരിയായി. അതിനു ശേഷം, കാലതാമസത്തോടെ പണിത ശ്രീകോവിലിലാണ് ഇപ്പോൾ സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്നത്.
