Saramkuthi Sri Dharmashasta Temple is an ancient place of worship located in the Kudayathur village panchayat in the Idukki district.
The monarch of Vadakkumkur constructed a fort and palace at Karikode, establishing his residence there. As a devoted follower of Ayyappa, he faced the unfortunate circumstance of being unable to make the pilgrimage to Sabarimala in his later years.
Distressed by this limitation, the king experienced a vision of the deity and communicated this revelation to the court priest, Namboothiri. Following this, he embarked on a journey with his entourage into the dense forest located to the south of the palace. Upon discovering the Valmika situated on a hill within the forest, he unearthed the idol of Sri Dharma Shasta. Subsequently, a temple was erected at that site, and the idol was enshrined.
The king designated this location as Thekumbhagam. Throughout his remaining years, the King of Vadakkumkur would visit this sacred place at the conclusion of Mandalakkalam to pay homage to Sri Dharma Shastava. Bhagavathy and Krishna are regarded as Sub-Deities. Significant days and principal offerings at the South Sri Dharmashasta Temple include the first Saturday of the Malayalam month, which holds particular importance for Darshan. On this day, in addition to the regular pujas, a special Shanishwara Puja is conducted to achieve Shanidosha Shanti.
Offerings such as Niranjanam and Ellupayasam are made for Ishtakaryasiddhi and Shanidosha Pariharam. Other notable offerings include Idichupizhinja Payasam on Utram day, Katumpayasam to Bhagavathy on Bharani day, and the presentation of butter and milk to Krishnaswami, accompanied by the chanting of Vidyagopala. Furthermore, Swayamvarapushpanjali and silk offerings are made in the presence of Bhagwati to attain Mangalyasiddhi.
തെക്കുംഭാഗം ശ്രീ ധർമ്മശാസ്താ ക്ഷേത്രം
ഇടുക്കി ജില്ലയിലെ തൊടുപുഴയിൽ നിന്ന് 4.7 കിലോമീറ്റർ അകലെ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന പുരാതന ശാസ്താ ക്ഷേത്രമാണ് തെക്കുംഭാഗം ശ്രീധർമ്മശാസ്താ ക്ഷേത്രം. എ. ഡി. 1600-ൽ കിഴുമലനാട്, വടക്കുംകൂർ രാജ്യത്തിൽ ലയിച്ചപ്പോൾ, വടക്കുംകൂർ രാജാവിന്റെ ആസ്ഥാനം കാരിക്കോട് ആയി. രാജാവ് കാരിക്കോട് കോട്ടയും കൊട്ടാരവും പണിതു താമസിച്ചു. അയ്യപ്പഭക്തനായ രാജാവ് വാർദ്ധക്യത്തിൽ ശബരിമലയിൽ ദർശനം നടത്താനായില്ല, ദുഖാർത്തനായ രാജാവ് ഭഗവാനെ സ്വപ്നത്തിൽ കണ്ടു. ഈ സ്വപ്നം കൊട്ടാരത്തിലെ വൈദികനായ നമ്പൂതിരിക്ക് അറിയിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു.
അതിന്റെ അടിസ്ഥാനത്തിൽ, രാജാവ് കുടുംബസമേതം കൊട്ടാരത്തിന് തെക്കുഭാഗത്തുള്ള കാട്ടിലേക്ക് യാത്ര ചെയ്തു. ആ വനത്തിൽ ഒരു ആൽച്ചുവട്ടിൽ വാല്മീകം ഇളക്കിയപ്പോൾ, ശ്രീ ധർമ്മശാസ്താവിന്റെ വിഗ്രഹം കണ്ടെത്തി. അവിടെ ഒരു ക്ഷേത്രം നിർമ്മിക്കുകയും ആ വിഗ്രഹം പ്രതിഷ്ഠിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. ഈ സ്ഥലത്തിന് രാജാവ് തെക്കുംഭാഗം എന്ന പേരിട്ടു. മലയാളമാസത്തിലെ ആദ്യ ശനിയാഴ്ച ദർശനത്തിന്റെ പ്രത്യേകതയുള്ളതാണ്.
ഈ ദിവസത്തിൽ സാധാരണ പൂജകൾക്കൊപ്പം ശനിദോഷശാന്തിക്കായി പ്രത്യേകമായി ശനീശ്വരപൂജയും നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു. ഇഷ്ടകാര്യസിദ്ധിക്കും ശനിദോഷപരിഹാരത്തിനും വേണ്ടിയുള്ള നീരാഞ്ജനം, എള്ളുപായസം എന്നിവ പ്രധാനമാണ്. ഉത്രം നാളിൽ ഇടിച്ചുപിഴിഞ്ഞ പായസം, ഭരണി നാളിൽ ഭഗവതിക്ക് കടുംപായസം, കൃഷ്ണസ്വാമിക്ക് വെണ്ണ, പാൽപായസം, വിദ്യാഗോപാല മന്ത്രാർച്ചന എന്നിവയും പ്രധാന വഴിപാടുകളാണ്. മംഗല്യസിദ്ധിക്കായി ഭഗവതി സന്നിധിയിൽ സ്വയംവരപുഷ്പാഞ്ജലിയും പട്ടുസമർപ്പണവും നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു.
