Sree Subramanya Swami Temple, commonly referred to as 'Malayala Palani' (Palani of Kerala), is situated in Olamattom, close to Thodupuzha in the Idukki district of Kerala.
Lord Muruga is worshipped there in the form of 'Bala Subramanya.'
According to legend, the idol at this location is said to be self-manifested. The Pandavas, celebrated figures from the epic Mahabharata, along with their wife Draupadi, are believed to have visited this site during their twelve-year exile.
Currently, three large boulders can be observed atop the rocks, which are thought to represent the three components of a rock oven utilized by the Pandavas for their cooking needs. During a time of water scarcity, Bhima, the strongest of the Pandavas, is said to have forcefully struck his foot against a hard rock, resulting in the emergence of a beautiful spring. There are differing interpretations regarding the name 'Uravappara.'
Some believe that the pond created by Bhima's force is referred to as Uravappara, while others contend that the temple derives its name from the 'Abhishekatheertham' that cascades down from the rocks. The temple's annual festival takes place during the Malayalam month of 'Makaram' (January/February). Two significant offerings to the deity are salt and pepper.
ഉറവപ്പാറ സുബ്രഹ്മണ്യ സ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രം
കേരളത്തിലെ ഇടുക്കി ജില്ലയിൽ തൊടുപുഴ താലൂക്കിൽ, തൊടുപുഴ മുനിസിപ്പാലിറ്റിയുടെ പരിധിയിൽ ഒളമറ്റം എന്ന സ്ഥലത്ത് സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ക്ഷേത്രമാണ് ഉറവപ്പാറ സുബ്രഹ്മണ്യസ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രം. ഇവിടെ പ്രധാന പ്രതിഷ്ഠ ബാലസുബ്രഹ്മണ്യനാണ്. ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം പഴനിയെ ഓർമ്മിപ്പിക്കുന്ന വിധത്തിൽ, തറ നിരപ്പിൽ നിന്ന് അഞ്ഞൂറ് അടി ഉയരത്തിൽ വലിയ ഒരു പാറയുടെ മുകളിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു.
വനവാസകാലത്ത് പാണ്ഡവർ ഇവിടെ എത്തി, പർണ്ണശാല നിർമ്മിച്ച് താമസിക്കുകയും, രാത്രി പ്രാർത്ഥനയ്ക്കായി ഒരു ക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥാപിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തുവെന്നാണ് പ്രാചീനകഥ. പുലർച്ചെ പോകേണ്ടതിനാൽ വാതിൽ ഇല്ലാതെ കരിങ്കൽ പാളികൾ ഉപയോഗിച്ച് ചുവരുകൾ നിർമ്മിച്ച് പ്രതിഷ്ഠ നടത്തപ്പെട്ടു. ദ്വാപരയുഗത്തിൽ യുധിഷ്ഠിരൻ ശിവാരാധന നടത്തിയതായി പറയപ്പെടുന്ന ശ്രീകോവിലിലെ പ്രതിഷ്ഠ സ്വയംഭൂ സങ്കൽപ്പത്തിലുള്ള ബാലസുബ്രഹ്മണ്യ ചൈതന്യമാണെന്ന് വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നു.
പാഞ്ചാലി പാണ്ഡവർക്ക് വേണ്ടി ഭക്ഷണം പാകം ചെയ്യാൻ ഉപയോഗിച്ച അടുപ്പായ മൂന്ന് വലിയ പാറക്കല്ലുകൾ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിനു പിന്നിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു.ക്ഷേത്രത്തിനു പുറകിലായി ഭീമസേനൻ കാലു കൊണ്ട് നിർമ്മിച്ച തീർത്ഥം സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു. ഉപ്പും കുരുമുളകും പ്രധാനമായ വഴിപാട് ആണ്. മകരമാസത്തിലെ പുണർതം പൂയം നാളുകൾ ഇവിടെ തിരുവുത്സവമായി ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നു. ചുറ്റമ്പലത്തിൽ ഗണപതിയും ശാസ്താവും ഉപദേവതകളായി സന്നിഹിതമാണ്.
